Bino got a reaction from jodi19870 in New Jersey Sleevers?
Three weeks post-op and feeling pretty good. Still struggling to get all 64 oz of Water down each day but I'm doing good otherwise. I had a great set of nurses at Morristown Medical Center.
First support group meeting is next Tuesday at St. Barnabas Ambulatory Center.

Bino got a reaction from woo woo in This to consider before going with the Sleeve
The last year and a half have been filled with one medical issue after another. I'm a year out from having the sleeve.
I started with having the band removed...ended up having a freak reaction to the anesthesia and one week spent in the cardiac unit.
After a few months of having my heart monitored, I had the sleeve done. No complications. Except that in my own rush to get on the road to better health, I didn't ask any questions about whether the sleeve is right for me or if I should go with the bypass.
My insurance changed at the beginning of the year, so I had to switch doctors. My new doc wanted me to go through a bunch of tests. He wanted to know exactly where I stood since he didn't do the surgery and, after nine months of only losing 23 pounds (the first two months), my old doc just said I needed to go back on two Protein Drinks a day and up my Water to 94 oz.
    1. Endoscopy showed that I have a small pouch at the top of my sleeve (consistent with having a lab band previously). Not unusual. It also showed that I have Barrett's Esophagus. Unfortunately, this is severely aggravated by GERD and mine is aggravated by the little pouch.
    2. My blood work showed I was severely low on Iron...my old doc missed this in my blood work.
    3. I also have a sugar issue...not diabetic yet...but definitely an intolerance issue.
Forward to this week, after a huge host of tests, and it boils down to I should have had a bypass rather than a sleeve.
The point of me typing all this... don't take any shortcuts. Get an Endoscopy and updated blood work right before you make a choice about which surgery is going to work best for you. Each one has it benefits and drawbacks, just make sure which is right for you.

Congrats on all who had their surgeries this past week like I did! Mine was the 26th I'm 4 days out now and wow do I have a back ache. First couple days of laying around so much did me in! Surgery went well. Went home late day two.
I'm working hard on my liquids thinking I'm getting about 40oz in and 60-70g Protein so I don't think that's so bad. I'm really bad with keeping track of things. broth and Isopure yum.
    Keep posting everyone!!!

Update-had my surgery yesterday (Wednesday) should be discharged tomorrow. It went smooth,
I had ice chips after the X-ray, to check for leaks, only one of my incisions is hurting, so far so good!

@claddagh66- thank you! I feel much better today! The first couple days I felt fine, but when I came home, since I had to walk up steps & whatnot, my pain seemed to skyrocket. But I'm on day 4 post op, and I folded some laundry, made my kids a snack, and sat on my bed while tidying my room- so I am feeling like I'll be normal in no time!

My surgery was Thursday, Apri 7. I was released yesterday.
I'm a sleeve to bypass revision due to a few medical issues. The pain is nothing compared to what I had when they did the sleeve. Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
Getting up and walking keeps the gas pains at bay.

Anybody name their pouch? Looking for a good one for mine. Toying with a few names but none are just screaming at me. The ones I'm toying with are Polly Pocket, Penelope Pouch, Penny, or Joey (like the baby kangaroo).

I hate taking pictures of myself but I think it's so important to document this journey! I had my RNY on 3/14/16 and have lost 30lbs since the surgery and 50lbs since my highest weight of 261lbs in January. I still have a long way to go, 86lbs to goal to be exact, but I'm so proud of my progress so far and wanted to share!

I'm so excited!! My favorite Protein drinks are the convenient Premier Protein shakes and they now come in Bananas and Cream! Yummm! I haven't had them myself yet, but can't wait to get it. A friend's mom got them from Sam's Club. I checked Sam's and costco, but nothing showing on their websites yet.

Actually, as a marketer, it's marketing at it's best! It shows a low quality food, that costs pennies to produce in it's best (though unrealistic) light. People are paying $7-$10 for a "meal" that looks and tastes like crap (in reality) and costs a buck or so to make. It's pure genius and I can't blame the food companies at all.
I have never gotten a Bic Mac or a Whopper that looks like what you see on TV, yet I stopped often in the Quest to satisfy that itch they promised to scratch. It tasted awesome at the time because I didn't truly appreciate the joy of real food with good quality ingredients. It was all about instant gratification and that's about all I got.
Now I don't hesitate to spend that $7-$10 on a small container of excellently prepared cerviche' or seafood salad. I don't blink at the prices of sushi grade salmon or a good filet. I'm worth it and I am healthier for it. I am not spending more money because my quantity is less but my quality has sky-rocketed.
I'm the winner here, but I do appreciate their efforts.

I hear ya on the rant.
Was on a cruise last week and it became evident........grossly evident....at how poorly folks eat.
I hit my six month mark during the cruise.
I've made the transition to the ne way of doing things and feel that it's a lifelong change for me. The food commercials don't bother me any more. Especially after last week and people watching on the ship.
Virtually all the staff onboard were height-weight chart compliant. Almost all. The cruisers we mostly overweight.....and a high percentage were obese. No mystery as to why when you observe them in restaurants. I'm an early riser and tended to take my book and sit and sip coffee in the buffet restaurant each morning. Unreal what I observed people chowng down on. Massive quantities. I often saw the same people in line again when I'd go back a couple hours later to eat Breakfast with my wife.
I saw my old self in those people. My old habits. I'm glad I saw this.

Prior to surgery I never noticed how much food porn there is on tv. It is absolutely ridiculous.
I record everything and buzz right on by.

Hi, everybody!! My surgery date is 4/25 and my liver shrink diet started yesterday. Today is my 34th birthday and I spent it drinking a Protein Drink, a Protein Bar, and 3oz of lean meat. It's a far cry from a normal birthday of Breakfast donut and meals out with friends, but I wouldn't trade it. I'm so excited for what this next year will bring and the healthy lifestyle I'll model for my kids. I want them to see me making my health a priority and taking care of myself. So far, though... I'm hungry. So hungry! But 2lbs lighter than I was yesterday and throwing a party for every pound I'll never see again.
Can't wait to follow each of you and hope you'll check in after surgery!

Here's a little update ... day five days post-op. Doing really well. Already my sugar level is normal. Hardly any pain. That I attribute to walking as soon as you can and moving your bowels (it also releases the gas pumped in during surgery).
I've been following my doctor's orders to the T. I'm now on full liquids and having the 4 oz of Protein drink has alleviated some of the tiredness I was feeling.
    Best wishes to all.
