    So....I got approved!!!!

Patience and research is definitely the key, this is life changing stuff. Get on you tube and find a channel you like and subscribe to it. Read as much as you can about your surgery, but more importantly about what to expect the hours, days and weeks following. Best of luck x

    Anyone for Jan/ Feb 2021

This is what I posted in the post op section. I have to say, being day 3 after surgery I have asked myself a number of times what the hell have I done....then I have moments of comfort which removes all concern. It took me nearly 12 hours to come out of the anaesthetic properly, and I had the awful sweats and nausea, but no vomiting. I remember only the Ice packs put behind my shoulders and the cold towel on my head.....ooh it felt so good. The nurses were just smashing and I'm going to send a thank you hard to them at the ward. I came home the day after surgery. I've had two bad nights, but last night felt so much better and slept 8 hours straight. I am already 4kgs down since surgery so that gives me hope. My first night home I was worried about my intake of Fluid. I struggled to consume even one cup of liquid a day. Yesterday I got through an entire Optifast shake, one cup of warm coffee, and about 500ml of Powerade zero. What has worked for me through trial and error (haha that auto corrected to "terror") 1. Don't drink laying down. Try and sit upright as possible, it reduces the chance of pain. 2. Small sips mean exactly that. Wet the inside of your mouth, and don't do more than two at a time. 3. Room temperature liquid gives me less issues 4. Make a shake in the morning and aim to complete by midday. Same for the afternoon 5. Keep on top of standard pain relief. Here in Australia we have panadol which is safe for bariatric patients. I tried dissolvable ones but the contain effervescent bubbles... not a great outcome 6. When pain is felt, stand up tall, take s deep breath through the nose and slowly out through the mouth. At most it has been two breaths and the pain is gone 7. A cool shower, clean hair, clean jammies and clean sheets make everything feel better [emoji16] 8. My headaches are likely to be caused by coffee withdrawl. I added 1tsp instant (powdered) coffee to a choc or vanilla shake. Voila!! Headache gone Just my thoughts, and hope some of these ideas can help others just having had surgery. Day 1 I was 7/10 discomfort, and full of unfounded regrets. Today, day 3, 1/10 discomfort, totally happy with my decision to have taken this route. How are you all doing? January 2021 anyone?

Been and done Jan 4th and so very pleased with how it's gone, despite my anaesthetic weirdness [emoji16] I read a response on this forum reminding me that recovery takes time and I WILL feel normal again. It is so true. I've just posted on the post surgery forum some small snippets of advice that I felt worked for me so far. Have a read if you like. Sent from my SM-G950F using BariatricPal mobile app

My biggest fear is it won't work...

When are you scheduled for and have you started the pre op diet yet? Sent from my SM-G950F using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. I know it's completely unreasonable to feel this way. I'm booked for surgery 4 January, my pre op diet starts in two days. I've done my homework, planned the first 6 weeks based on my dieticians advice. Does anyone else have these fears? Or had these fears and now are post surgery? I think I need to keep myself busy, or at least my mind busy. It's stinking hot here in Queensland Australia, and I've got lots of things I can do to keep me occupied.....

My biggest fear is it won't work...

Absolutely. Its just going on night time on Wednesday and my procedure was Monday afternoon. I have had two pretty rough days and nights, but feel a million times better this afternoon. Ive managed a full optifast shake and about a litre of powerade zero. I'm still peeing so must be working haha. I actually had a mildly warm coffee this afternoon too, it took an hour to drink it. Small sips are certainly the way! 4kgs down already. I know it's probably water weight but I will take what I can get! Sent from my SM-G950F using BariatricPal mobile app

My biggest fear is it won't work...

I had my procedure yesterday and feel so washed out. Not hungry at all. Determined to make this work.
  11. Today is the start of my two well pre op liquid diet. I have done shake diets before very successfully.... until I find good again!! I know what I'm up for and the headache started around 11am this morning. I've had loads of water and my two shakes and one optifast pudding. I've got a chalky mouth and my head is pounding. I once this would be the day one feelings and side effects... it will last about one week then I'll feel fine. I'm excited I've started; the first day is always the hardest. Need time now, just after 8pm after two hours relaxing in the pool. [emoji178] I love summer in Australia!! Sent from my SM-G950F using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. Day 5 pre op and Christmas Day.  The pre op diet is getting easier by the day and I am so very determined.  I started at 97kg, and I am now 92.2kg.  I know a lot is water weight, but it makes me feel good and determined.

I've prepared all the food for the day yesterday, except the fresh salads.  I guess a lot of the members on this forum are from the northern hemisphere so the idea of a summer Christmas is probably quite foreign to you all.  I LOVE Christmas Day and today I have woken with no hangover (now booze free for 361 days) and without feeling bloated, puffy and yuck.  I've had my morning shake, a couple of cups of coffee and now on the water.  I am not religious at all, none of my family are (I don't mean to offend anyone at all) so Christmas for us is celebrating the end of the year, and reflect on what we have done well, not well, and what we could start doing as a family.  They all know about my surgery on 4th January and hubby has agreed next year is all about our physical health and wellbeing.

    Bring on 2021 I say!

    Merry Christmas everyone xxx

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, friend! Happy New Bodies to us! (My surgery is 12/30!) I have a lot of Aussie friends and I’m so jealous of their summer christmases. Haha. One of my best Aussie buddies lives out in the Perth area. We’d love to go visit her someday, but it sure is pricy to fly out that way from California!

Thank you so much, your supportive message means a lot. It's just me throwing myself a stupid negative.....this is the change I need to make more than anything, the way I think! Merry Christmas x

    Pre-Op constipation

Oh good god I am on day 4 of the pre op diet and holy moly I am bunged up like concrete. I'm off to get some benefibre. Fingers crossed, because I don't want to go through my last half hour ever again!
  15. Day 4 pre op.  I've got my headache back again but don't feel as washed out as the past few days.  I'm keeping up on my chewable multi vitamins which I think is really helping my skin and focus.  I am only having the three optifast meals a day (shakes or puddings) and not getting in the steamed veges as I'm simply too tired.  I might have to start having them at lunchtime I think, I know there is a reason I have to have them.

10 days until surgery.  I'm so excited about it now, not really nervous.  I am reading so many of the posts on this forum, it's been great.

For those starting out on the pre op liquid diet, the only advice I can give on day four is to drink water.  Try and keep yourself distracted during the first couple of days.  DON'T go grocery shopping.....that just highlighted to me bad habits that I had got in to.  Online shopping and delivery from now on.

I've got myself a diary to write journal entries in leading up to and after the surgery.

It's Christmas Eve here, so merry christmas to you all, and I'll see you on the other side of the Jolly Fat Fellows day!

  16. Me again, day 2 liquid pre op.

    Chalky mouth has remained.

    No headache so far today.

I've had my first example of lifestyle change today....went to get chicken food for our rescue chooks and would usually pop through the zaraffas window for a coffee....or diet coke.  Nope, water it is.

    🙂

I slept terribly again last night, like I can't get to sleep....it's damned frustrating.  I will ride the wave until it's over.

The doctor surgery rang today confirming the time and operation day preparation.  Woohoo, it's becoming very real now!

My biggest fear is it won't work...

I am on day 2 of my pre op liquid diet and know that once I'm past the three day mark I will be fine. I'll have developed confidence in my mind and will be sure that it works. Silly me, I know....

    Day 1 pre op

Oh good god, the autocorrect mistakes....sheesh. Two week pre op. Find FOOD again. Day two, feeling not as headachy and haven't had any neurofen yet so that's a good sign. I've been on the ride on mower for a couple of hours in readiness for Christmas day, in the pool for a swim, fed the kids, they are in the pool now while I catch up on some me time. Yes, they are old enough to be unsupervised and are also surf lifesavers so quite safe in the water! 🙂

    Day 1 pre op

I am sure it's withdrawl symptoms. I've had a crappy night sleep, and have the makings of another headache brewing. I'll be easy on myself today. My stepsons are home with me this week while hubby goes to work. They are fabulous kids and will be a great help. Sent from my SM-G950F using BariatricPal mobile app

  22. Ha 😁😄 me too, but I'm only day one!
  23. Day one of pre op diet, two weeks before surgery.  I'm excited to start,  and know that this is a fundamental lifestyle change.

On 30 December 2019 I gave up a heavy drinking habit for 30 years.  No regrets, only successes; even through the turmoil of 2020 ☠💪💣💥

2021 will be the year I regain my physical and mental health, and the start of the rest of my life.  To say I am a determined person is an understatement.  One day I want to writea book just for my family.  It will make for a lot of laughs, many tears, and a lot of enlightenment as to why I am the way I am.  I've been on a blog called Living Sober all year, and I have decided to extract all my posts for the last 12 months and read iver them again during my post surgery recovery time.  It will reassure me I am ok, I can (and must) do this.

Happy day 1 to you from me x

Day 1 down and about to go to bed. I am exhausted and know I will sleep well. My headache is banging though, despite all the neurofen I've had. Grrrr.

But a couple of hours in the pool early evening was such a nice relaxing time. I'm ready for zzzzz now. Bring on day 2!

My biggest fear is it won't work...

I absolutely agree surgery is only one part of it. A big part in helping me create good habits. My doctor looked at my food diary and was pretty clear that what I consumed was great.... just in too big a volumes. Tomorrow I start the pre op diet. I am very much ready for this journey.
