Good thought... I don't know, but I wonder if the emphasis is too MUCH on food. I feel like it is, but I don't think he's there yet, mentally (emotionally). But now my surgery got postponed, so he has more time to adjust! Ha.

This is what I envision life after surgery to be like, or what I hope. I know some people can't eat certain things or have aversions to certain things, so that might alter the way foods are "tasted" at times. The hard truth (for him, or for me I suppose) is that it WILL be different. But if I decided to do some crash diet for 18 months it would also be different, too. I think, for me, I keep going back to the fact that I want a change. I need to reroute my course a bit for my own sake.

I was scheduled for MAY, but my surgery got postponed. A week into the liquid diet and I got sick with bronchitis, and need to be on some meds and heal. SO frustrating. So it's pushed out almost a month. They were going to do it earlier, but I think a couple weeks later is the better option. I don't think trying to heal and doing the liquid diet was the best. I'm frustrated, but in a way relieved. I was feeling "off" for a bit, and was nervous about not feeling 100% going into surgery. Just hoping for some good healing right now!
I tell ya, it's weird to eat food after the liquid diet. 21 days and I'm back on the shakes.
    Anyway, hello June surgery folks.

I don't think my parents (mom, actually) meant any harm, either. But she put me on my first diet in 2nd grade. I remember it. I remember having a different snack than every other kid in my class.
I remember the Fiber pills, then some other program I went on. I think I wanted it, too, honestly. Like I wanted to be like the other kids. My mom made a lot of my clothing. I didn't feel like I was the biggest of all my friends but I was. So it's weird. My mom never made me feel fat or inferior. So somehow she juggled things well, in a way. It wasn't until we had school-assigned clothing and I couldn't fit into the biggest size (while the other 2 "fat" girls in my class could) that I realized I was THE BIGGEST ONE.
I still am, lots of times. My husband doesn't even know I weigh more than him. He doesn't get it.

Hi Myran, I am newbie as well. I just joined the forum yesterday!! I am scheduled for gastric sleeve on June 15th at Blossom Bariatrics in Vegas. I moved beyond "what will people think" and decided this is for me and only me. I have to put myself first. I will not hide my surgery when my success starts becoming obvious and people ask "what did you do?" I don't think surgery is cheating and WE can educate people that it is not. Our WHOLE life is going to change. Our way we eat and live will change. This is NOT going to be easy. This is the hardest thing I have and probably will ever do. So, remind yourself if you are living your best life, those in your life will benefit from it too. I a tired of being tired and missing out on all the things I can't do because of my size. YOU DESERVE THIS and frankly, it's no one's business how you get healthy!

My weight has always been a huge issue for my mom who is highly looks-oriented. As a child I was the only overweight person in my family – I would gain weight during summer vacations with my grandparents and when I came home my mom put me on a diet. This resulted in me yo-yo dieting since the age of 6. I've had huge fights over the years with my mom about my weight and in my teenage years her pressuring resulted in me becoming bulimic. Her attitude is also the reason I've decided not to talk about my WLS plans with her at all.

you won't be able to the first few months, but after that, probably yes. I can eat anything now except for really high-fat meals. I just eat smaller portions than I did before (and when it comes to highly caloric things like Desserts, MUCH smaller portions - although I do splurge occasionally and eat a regular-sized serving of dessert)

I have been struggling with the same issue when trying to decide whether to WLS or not. I and my husband are most definitely foodies; we love experiencing new restaurants, trying tasting menus with wine pairings, etc. I love cooking and am also currently participating in a wine course. I'm trying to convince myself that after I'm able to eat "normal foods" the only thing that will change is the amount of food I eat and me making healthier choices, Remains to be seen whether this is really the case.

Hello Guys and Gals, I had the VSG last Monday, May 10th, 2021 and my only regret is not having had the surgery so many years ago! I had a Lap Band done in April of 2010 which was a waste of time and energy. I had it removed during this sleeve gastrectomy as well as a hernia repair. There was so much scar tissue that the band actually broke in pieces as the surgeon was extracting it. There is a little piece left behind that will not cause me any problems. The EXTRAORDINARY result of this procedure is that I feel as if they injected me with a heavy dose of B-12 that will not quit! I am up and energetic and cannot get to sleep before midnight when my usual bedtime was at around 8pm! I don't know what to do with myself! I am up cleaning, reducing items that were just stored up in the house, EVERYTHING that I would normally just put off due to fatigue! I am so blessed!

I hear the negatives also, but I ask everyone... would you do it again? And they have all said yes. Or they regret they didn’t do it sooner. I wish I had done sooner!!

My surgery was May 10th. Gastric sleeve and hiatal hernia repair. I’m one week post op today. I’ve been able to drink 48oz of propel and at least an additional 50oz of Water. It’s been an absolute miserable chore, but I keep telling myself it’s better than ending up dehydrated and back in the hospital. Over the weekend I had a total of 3 SF popsicles and 9oz (4.5/day SF jello). Today I had horrible diarrhea, so I may just go back to water, propel and chicken broth like I did the first five days. I’ve been very down. The soreness pain I felt getting up and sitting or laying down has significantly improved but internally I feel like my organs are churning all the time and my incisions will sting and hurt often. This has been far harder mentally and physically than any other surgery I’ve been through. I’ve had an appendectomy for acute appendicitis that burst on the operating table. I’ve had bunionectomy surgeries on both feet and multiple bone spurs removed from one foot. This is obviously a far more extensive surgery, but man, I keep having to fight off regret and depression. My weight right before surgery was 207 and today I’m 199. The loss feels great, but honestly, I’m so miserable right now that getting out of the 200s doesn’t even feel that joyful.

I had surgery Friday. Today is Sunday and I’m flying home soon. It’s so weird not being able to finish a popsicle. VERY weird! I just made some hot Water in the coffee pot and put a spoonful of bouillon in it that I had brought along on the trip. I had almost half of a small coffee cup and that and I’m full as can be. I’m not in any pain. I can get out of bed without pulling on anything I just kind of roll over on my side and ease up. I took a shower the day after my surgery. I just have steri strips on the incisions and they are small. This had been much easier than I thought. You really do have to work to get the liquid in. I don’t think I realized just how slow that goes.

Mine is also May 19th. I’m having a hard time with this liquid diet. The first 8 days were good but now I want food. I’m in a bad mood, dizzy and I can’t believe I have 10 days of more liquid diet after surgery before I can eat. All I want to do is chew something!

Your definitely not alone! My husband and I find enjoyment in food and social drinking. We had a similar conversation and agreed that we will adjust and find other things to enjoy. We are trying to plan vacations and we have fun drinking by the pool and Moonshine tasting in Tennessee will no long be an option anymore. The changes will be difficult but I hope worth it! Good luck!
