Cocochanelpgh got a reaction from nrr599 in Any vegetarians / vegans?
Hi! I am vegan and have had no issues since my surgery on 11/11. Most of what I have been able to find is from searching on Amazon. I live in Georgia and so many stores only sell partial products of any brand line. It is super frustrating to drive around (especially NOW).
I got a lot of premixed Protein Shakes so that I would not have to worry during the first week or so, and after that, I had already had a stock of Protein mixes that I could use. I did get a non-flavored plant-based Protein Powder so that I could mix it into Soups that were not high in protein.
    All the best to you!
Let me know any good recipes - I am NOT a good cook so I can use ALL the help I can get.

Very frustrating. Finally made up my mind to move forward with weight loss surgery. Jumped through all of the hoops.Date set for December. Then the hospital canceled all elective surgeries through the end of the year because they need all available beds for Covid patients. The doctors office can't tell me when they will be allowed to start up again. This was devastating news. Like most, I have struggled with my weight all my life. I finally thought I was going to take back control and now it feels hopeless again. I am trying to remain positive and remember that it will happen at some point... Anyone else get postponed or have to wait a significant amount of time before your operation? What did you do during that time?

Okay, today's the day and I can't believe it! I've taken my preop anti nausea medication and had my presurgery shake and will be heading to the surgery center here in about 25 minutes. I'm nervous but not as worried as I was last night. Prayed and cried a lot last night but feeling much more at ease now. Did write myself a letter to reference going forward and one for my mom in the super rare event I don't make it home(it puts me more at eas.
I don't think I'd be as ready without these forums, so thank you everyone for your input and guidance! It is my turn to hit the loser's bench!
Anyone else going in this morning?

There is a whole section of the forum dedicated to vegan/vegetarian, with over 1500 posts. Check it out. I am vegan and follow a Whole food Plant Based eating plan. I started this about a year after surgery, and have never felt better. Protein supplements are necessary immediately after surgery until you can get at least 60 grams of protein from normal food. I've used Orgain shakes and Garden of Life powder. I think there are a LOT of good recipes in the Forks over Knives magazines that come out quarterly. The fall issue featuring Comfort Foods was excellent. Even if I tweak the recipe a bit to my own spice preferences, they give me great ideas and a starting place for a meal. I just made a really yummy jackfruit chowder and added some cannellini Beans and corn to up the protein a bit. Anyway, I get great ideas from the mags and my family likes them, too.
PS: AnaBar, almond mild doesn't really have much protein. Can you switch to soy or pea based milk like Silk or Ripple?

I am so sorry for your experience. I had my surgery on 11/11 and thought that my husband wouldn't be able to come in, but the hospital allowed him, with the exception of my room that I stayed in for the night.
They also gave me a sedative as I was on the table for the procedure. I am just a bit more at ease - especially with your circumstances -- so I thought the timing was good.
I hope your pain reduces quickly and that you are successful with your journey.

I am so sorry to hear you are having so many pains. I am surprised they released you from the hospital. I would say call your doctor IMMEDIATELY and get to an emergency room.
I had my surgery 11/11 and was up and walking around that same night, no pain medication was needed. The most discomfort was from the incision feeling like I had been stabbed. And occasionally feeling like parts of my insides were moving around in my stomach.
    Wishing the best for you!

It will be 4 weeks Friday that my niece had gastric sleeve in Tijuana Mexico. We watched the video and the surgery went well.. She has not been able to keep anything down. Throwing up black nasty stuff and poop is black as well...Been to the ER twice and they ran , all kinds of test on her, find nothing... She is weak and dizzy and not getting better. The doctor in Mexico keep saying your body has to adapt...I get that but not able to even keep Water down...Anyone else experiencing these symptoms?

I was put on a Keto diet plan by my dietician for the 2.5 weeks pre surgery & I was ever so grateful. One friend was on 3 shakes a day for two weeks while another was on 2 shakes plus 1 high Protein low carb meal for 4 weeks. Which ever plan you’re given stick to it. It starts the process of re-examining your food habits & making better food choices so you can take the best advantage of your surgery.
Good luck with your surgery & on your journey.
