I'm struggling with this statement because it would be really unusual to follow the program's diet and gain back 70 lbs. On the other hand, it seems like it's really easy to gain 70 lbs by slowly letting your food habits creep back to your pre-surgery ways, and it can happen slowly enough that it still feels like you're following the rules!
Regardless, it sounds a little bit like you already know you want the bypass and just want everyone to confirm your decision, which is totally relatable but just thought I'd point it out. The choice is really individual since we all have different bodies.

I'm so sorry for both of you! While complication rates are low for this surgery, they aren't zero, so unfortunately some folks go through these situations. I think it's definitely helpful to share so that others have a realistic view of the risks instead of assuming sunshine and rainbows. Hopefully this is the worst of it and it'll end up being a small blip in your life history. Hang in there!

It's totally normal to have these feelings at the beginning. You're in some pain, you're anxious about having to change your eating habits to match your new digestive system, and you can't turn to food for comfort like most of us are used to! Plus your hormones are a mess after surgery which affects your mood too, so it's no wonder that you're having these thoughts. Give yourself some grace and give it some time. You're not lazy; taking this step was super brave and harder than traditional diet and exercise in some ways.
For what it's worth, I hate Premier Protein too; the aftertaste is like plastic to me and was gross even pre-op, so I get it. I've been loving the Fairlife Nutrition Plan shakes because the chocolate one tastes just like chocolate milk to me and it's not as thick as the Premier. Just an idea!

I had to go buy a new winter coat today because my old ones are so big that they catch the wind and let in all the cold air! Bonus: I've gone from a TIGHT 3x to a comfortable 1x; I'll definitely be in the "regular" sizes next year.

"Only" 20 pounds in three weeks?! I think that's a fantastic amount, especially considering that your body has gone through a big trauma and is still healing. I know it's hard not to compare yourself to others, but progress varies so much, since it's affected by your initial weight, how much you lost before surgery, how damaged your metabolism is from previous dieting, your genetics, and like a million other factors. Keep sticking to your plan and be proud of the success you've had so far!

Hello everyone! I had my surgery on the 24th of November. Post Op no issues! No pain I can take all medications! However, I have only lost 20 pounds since surgery.... I don't know what I am doing wrong or if I am I have my dietitian on the 29th of this month! Any suggestions? I am walking not every day but most days I do walk

Pre-surgery, I am down 3-4 sizes on bottoms (size 26-28 from size 32). I'm wearing big baggy tops for now. I've stitched up the size seams of all of my underpants and bras and swimwear so I won't have to buy new during the immediate transitional period. Surgery is just a week away, so I will have to buy more soon and also take a trip to Goodwill to buy pants and tops. I think can get by with my winter sweaters and coats.
Best NSV of all, I went out to lunch last weekend and sat in a booth, with room to spare between my belly and the table. That hasn't happened in years.

This is too late to be helpful for you at this point, but in case it helps future folks, my clinic had me start transitioning off caffeine two weeks before the pre-op diet, reasoning that dealing with caffeine withdrawal in addition to the normal pre-op diet issues is just too much! I was allowed coffee again after three months but everyone's program varies wildly.
Talk to your surgeon's office and see what's allowed on yours.

cellbell reacted to lizonaplane in Lost weight, but don't feel good.
I've lost 35 lbs since surgery and almost 85 lbs overall. I can walk faster and fit in an airplane seat better, but I don't feel "good." I don't have more energy and I'm hungry all the time and I'm uncomfortable every time I eat. I'm always afraid I'm going to throw up because I'm nauseous a lot. I always had plenty of energy, but now I'm weak and dizzy all the time. I can't even lift a suitcase into the overhead.
I'm sort of wishing I hadn't had this surgery. Maybe because I had such high expectations?

Because the surgery helps people better manage a very strict diet program so they can actually sticks to it. Some people lose their hunger for months, making it much easier to be satisfied at 800 calories. Even when hunger returns, a smaller stomach helps with Portion Control.
