I've always been overweight. I honestly can't remember a time when I wasn't. But it's crazy how when you're a kid, you're not fat, obese, or whatever, you're cute and chubby, and the extra weight that you're carrying is no need for concern. But as you get older that quickly changes and you're no longer perceived as chubby and cute, and the extra weight has become a major problem, not just for yourself, but for others as well. I wonder if any of you can relate to this. I've struggled with my weight my entire life. I know many people say this and it's as if they're just talking, but I've actually been the biggest person in my class, school, church, etc. It was rare that I would see someone that was just as big as I was, if not bigger. I've tried different diets, exercise plans, supplements, nothing has worked for me. If I did lose any weight, it was a short-lived accomplishment. I've struggled with deeply rooted insecurities that only further fueled my horrible relationship with food. I have struggled with anxiety and depression for years because in my mind I could never get to that perfect weight or body. Just a constant battle with myself for most of my life.
It has taken a great deal of trial and error for me to get to where I am today in how I see myself, physically and otherwise. I have come to love myself and my body and I feel that there's nothing wrong with loving who or how you are physically, mentally, spiritually, and yet you feel the need to change a part of you. I believe most people would associate this with insecurity, but I beg to differ. I believe that it is the reasoning behind the decision to change that makes the difference. While I have learned to love and appreciate my body for all that it has done and continues to do for me, I am also very aware that carrying over 200 pounds of extra weight is not healthy for me. I want to have children one day and I don't want to put them or myself at increased risks because of my weight. I don't want to be at an increased risk of high blood pressure, sleep apnea, diabetes, or congestive heart failure. These things run in my family and I don't want to be next in line. I want more for myself. I haven't went swimming in years, but I remember how good it felt to feel weightless in the Water, how peaceful and serene it was for me. I view this surgery as an opportunity to experience life in a different way. Even though I can walk or run at the weight I currently am, I know that my body will feel a lot better walking and running with less weight being carried around. Even though I can go swimming now, or travel the world just as I am right now. Simple things such as "will I fit in this seat? Will they have clothes my size? Is there going to be a lot of walking, etc...". I don't think many people understand the daily struggles of an obese individual. Yes, we're all aware of the "health concerns" associated with being over-weight. But not many people are aware of those small things that affect us daily such as standing for extended periods of time, back and body aches, getting winded or out of breath easily, etc.
I've made the decision to have gastric-bypass surgery as I'm confident that this is the tool that I've been missing to help me finally be successful in my weight-loss journey. I'm nervous and excited, but in the end I know this is the best decision for me. I'm interested to meet anyone who would like to go through this journey together, no matter where you are in your own journey. I'd love to hear from you all and know how you're doing and if I can be of some help to you, even if it's just a kind word. Good Luck! And Blessings to you all!

It's Coronavirus or COVID-19 and it will depend on the level of outbreak and how fast it spreads. I doubt months though.

You are doing great. You just had surgery. The member that responded is precise in what she stated. Your Fluid retention is hard at work, swelling will take weeks to return to baseline. Your body has been traumatized, surgically, but trauma all the same. Your physiology needs time to calm down. Your weight will not be accurate, do not be concerned about the scale. Your body needs to heal and recover, this takes time. Success will follow you...no worries. Be patient with yourself & your body. Each person’s anatomy/ physiology is different. How quickly you heal is also different. Try not to make comparisons, something we all do. You will heal, recover and be amazed just how proficient the human body can be. Soon you will see the results of the surgery and see the rewards of your hard efforts. Congratulations! I wish you well - Grace

I searched for quite awhile before selecting my surgeon, and I am so happy with the choice I made. I live in GA and had my surgery in Deluth at Northside hospital, my surgeon was Dr. Del Mazo. I really like his bedside manner, and have been very comfortable with him from the initial consult. The dietitians, fitness instructors, nurses and office staff have all been wonderful and when I was discharged from the hospital he gave me a teddy bear; of course I said that’s not necessary and he goes...”well yeah we do, it’s “bear”iatrics.” Lol

I cried, because I’m a softie, and because it was just unexpected, and no it doesn’t matter that they do it for all of their patients, it was touching to me:)

I wanted to share, because I don’t genuinely enjoy and click with every doctor, but feel
It’s worth some kudos to them when you find a good one.

Thanks everyone, I know it is very early days!! I am a perfectionist in everything I choose to take on, this journey is no different, and changing gears unexpectedly definitely felt like a hiccup in a well laid plan. On top of being a perfectionist I am also a control freak, I love to control all variables that are within my ability to control and mold to generate the result that I want; so I now just have to redefine my plan, which may seem silly to so many, but it is just me. Thank you all for taking the time to respond to me. I feel much more ready to tackle everything today after a good sleep and some new planning:)

Oh that does sound very frustrating!! How much have you lost? Logically, you must be losing weight because you’re on a very calorie restrictive diet. I hope you just keep on doing the right things. Those pounds are probably dropping but Water weight is holding on snd covering the loss.

I'm struggling to lose with my sleeve and I'm three weeks in. However, measure yourself instead of weighing yourself for a few weeks. You'll see the difference that way. You're doing great! Keep your head up.

Horseshowmom, agree with other posters.... this sounds like weight retention. The IV fluids contain lots of sodium. Also your body is in shock. Encouraging you to stick with the plan; this will change eventually!

a lot of people gain weight from the IV fluids they get in the hospital. I've read posts of people gaining 10 or more lbs from it, to be honest. It does take a few days - or even a week - for it to work it's way out of your system. If you're following your clinic's food plan, the weight WILL start to drop off.

I think I had a really good surgeon. I did mine inthe UK at parkside hospital with Dr . Vasilikosta.
I have social anxiety so I am not easy to be around . But he was really nice to me, friendly and understanding. We bumped elbows (instead of fist bumping , because covid) at the end haha.
The surgery itself went really well. I woke up with little pain, not much gas pain and could drink relatively easily.

Try staying off the scale and work on NSV Non scale victories, it helps, little things like remembering your Vitamins, or taking a relaxing nap or Walking outside for five minutes. What works for you the first few weeks are exhausting physically and mentally. It was three weeks be fore I could return to work for no more then 2 hours, it pissed me off I love my job, so have patience with you the weight will come offf, your body has been through something very traumatic, and you have a lot of adjusting to do. Just keep asking question and if in doubt talk to your surgical team. Good luck.

It would be disappointing to think you're heading toward one destination and end up in a different 'town'. I hope you are feeling better and obviously your Surgeon made the best choice for your situation. I had my surgery 11-4 and gained weight. I didn't see a net loss until yesterday morning. And it was a couple of lbs. Please try not to feel disheartened. You're doing all you can on your side- the weight Will come off! 🤗

I agree with those comments above. After I had my sleeve surgery, I didn’t weigh myself for 2 weeks. Now, just once a week.

You lost a lot of weight in the couple of weeks before the surgery, that coupled with the IV fluids and inflammation will make for a fairly low or no weight loss in the first week or so.
Just keep following your post op guidelines and keep up the fluids and it won't be too long before your efforts are reflected on the scales. Bearing in mind that at this point, scale weight is not as important as getting your fluids, Protein and developing new habits that will help you achieve your goal.

Agree with the above! Your body is recovering and if you had IV's you are probably carrying some Water weight! Stay the course! HUGS!

If I'm reading this right, you're just 5 days post-surgery? The number you see on the scale doesn't mean much right now. It's way too soon for you to be able to assess what kind of results you are getting. You're just starting to heal - you still have internal swelling (which means Water retention). Stay with your eating plan, give your body time to recover and R.E.L.A.X. This is more like a marathon than a sprint. I lost my weight over 18 months (and I'm still slowly losing). It won't happen overnight, but if you're diligent about following your plan, it WILL happen. Feel better. 🤗

There are a few other hormones besides oestrogen stored in our fat too including ones that regulate our appetite, insulin, metabolism & blood pressure. You may find that these go a bit crazy too. My cholesterol levels also went up as I lost weight & then settled back at it’s normal range after I hit my goal.
