I saw some of you talking about the trikke on here....it looks like fun. I looked at their web site but KNEW y'all could give me more info on it. What are the pros & cons? What are your experiences? What equipment is a must have....well besides the obvious, a Trikke! On the trikke discussion board (I can't remember the name of the site) I saw a lot of people talking about falling off, breaking ribs etc....yikes! I hope that is becasue they are going really fast or that they are doing extreme stuff. Thanks! Elizabeth
  2. Sage, I was banded on March 24th this year. * my goal is to lose 90#. I've lost 34# so far, which is more that 1#/wk. I'm happy with it but I've just started to exercise so I expect more weight to come off. Also, I'm 55 so I don't peel it off like when I was younger. It has been a very good experience, I've had relatively few problems. The worst is getting a fill that makes me too tight....not fun but the next week when I go get a small unfill, all is right with the world. I eat what I want but just smaller portions. Do I miss eating a huge meal? Nope because I feel full & that's ok with me.
  3. A large egg weighs about 2 oz. I make mine into an omlete with no stuffing every morning. Sassy..why NOT have a hamburger? No bun and chew chew chew.
  4. Are you drinking a lot of juices? That will make you poop like crazy. My first week I was told to drink things with sugar, second week on...no sugary drinks.
  5. Sage...I live in Satellite Beach & Dr Fusco in Melbourne did my surgery. Google Lifeshape & you can read his creds. He's done over 500 lapband proceedures.
  6. Iceberg lettuce makes a good pocket for sandwich stuff. Love the crunch!
  7. Lynne...what a huge relief that must be!
  8. Sue...that looks like fun! Is it hard to do? Do you pump with your feet at all?
  9. Gina - you show that you are in Palm Bay. Dr Fusco is in Melbourne close to Holmes. He did mine & I'm delighted. Going to Ocala for fills is going to be trying.
  10. Y'all are a bunch of sex crazed whores! Congratulations....& uh, I wanna be one too! I'm going off of my anti-anxiety medicine (doc agreed) & I'm hoping that will rekindle my fires.
  11. Looking back...I was never really overweight until I hit 40 & the pounds just started rolling on. I look back at my pics & wonder where my head was!!! SO...I am going to appreciate every frickin pound I lose. I have some of my old clothes thatt I have hung up in my closet as milestones that I'm trying to 'relive'. Yesterday I wore a pair of pants that I have not worn in 4 years! Boy...that felt good.
  12. My best suggestion would be do NOT push. As her life starts to change, she will find her way here, I promise. I started out looking at videos on lapband on youtube...there are some very encouraging stories there, most are less than 10 min so it's a quick look into 'our world'. I liked that because I didn't feel the need to participate & there are way less of the videos than threads she'll find here...which can be very overwhelming. So...when is your surgery!>!
  13. I never used to drink Water but my Doc & nurse impressed upon my how important it is to hydrate, so this is what I've done. I buy myself spring water (I think it tastes better) in the 2.5 gal thingie with the little spigot & set it on my counter. When I get up, I drink one or 2 glasses (which is really like 4 8oz glasses) when I'm at work (I own my own business so I have the same water set up there) I get the same amount in when I get home I may have a glass or 2. Having the jug there gives me a visual on how much water I'm getting in. I took a sip of my husbands diet Dew yesterday & I cannot believe..I thought it tasted awful! My sweet drink of choice is flavored water. Raspberry is my favorite. You'll get used to it, keep plugging away.
  14. aremers...your rebirthday is the same as my birthday! Hope you're feeling good today.
  15. Slim...I goofed & told you that the Support Group meeting was last Thursday (which is usually is the 2nd Thurs) Actually, this month only it is going to be this Thursday Aug 21st. I hope both of you can make it. OK so maybe Ar will be a bit sore that day....happy banding!
  16. Again..sorry for the intruision BUT Papa..you neeed encouragment!!! When I go to bed the pressure from the CPAP pushing air into my nose is freaky (I wish it didn't DO that) but as I breath the pressure seems to subside. If you think you can't get past that, ask your Doc for somnthing that will gently relax you at bedtime so you can overcome the fear or weirdness or whatever. AND another thing I do...I wear earplugs...I hate the noise of the CPAP (sounds like Darth Vader breathing!) AND I cover the lights (why the hell do they have lights when we need to SLEEP!?) with a black sock. OK....I have given you good reason to try it again...do NOT make me come over there & kick your ass.
  17. I was banded by Dr Fusco! March 24th 2008. Donna is going to give you a ton of nutirtion info. I wish I would have taken my husband for that visit. Surgery, for me, was a snap. I can't do any meds that even sound like codine so I only took liq Tylenol & it did the trick. The liquid part made me miserable. At first...I drank too much juice...don't drink too much juice. To keep the sodium levels down...I made my own broths. But still, expect to deal with it & once you see weight loss, you'll forget all about it.....really. Enjoy!
  18. Sorry boys, I know I shouldn't be posting in your fourm BUT I need to tell Papa this... I also have severe sleep apnea & the device I chose does not cover my face. I have a head strap & my air hose is attached to a, well the best i could describe it as is, a plastic/latex type material pillow with 2 nostral holes in it that only rests on my nose. It's soft & I don't look like a fighter pilot when I sleep. CPAP Masks look at the Mirage Swift II....that is pretty much what mine looks like.
  19. If you are drinking a lot of juice...that will do it. Just cut back.
  20. So yesterday I could not even keep my spit down. I felt awful. This morning I sipped my cup tea for almost 2 hours. it stayed down but when I sipped on a protein shake....ugghh that heavy feeling started. So I called the nurse...she said I probably need some taked out so make an appt for FRIDAY!!!! Freakin Friday! In the mean time drink warm liquids in the morning & jello in the afternoon. Is this right?!? I lost 4# between Fri morn & this morn! That's not good. I want to guzzle some water. Any sage advice?????
  21. I had a fill yesterday & today I feel like a have a small lump in my throat. I've been sipping water then decided to try some tomato soup. Sip sip but it isn't flowing thru...I haven't pbd but I keep getting the hiccups. They don't last long but I've had them about 4 times already today. This is my 5th fill & the first time I have felt this kind of restriction....is it normal?
  22. I'm 5'3" & started out at 226. I'm down 28#...getting a fill today...whoohoo! Anyway...when I lost about 25# people started to say, "how are you? you look great!" So I think they are see something different but they can't quite put their finger on it. I told my DH that, I think, my weight loss will be very clear at 40 - 50 #.
  23. Is there REALLY a Lapband convention???
  24. Sit down with some paper & figure out how much you are currently spending on food. I don't know how long they give you to pay BUT I'm willing to be that you can eeK out that payment once you see the savings. We used to spend probably 100-150 a WEEK on groceries & I'd guess that we spend about half of that now. (JUnk food is expensive but I don't miss it.) Also...we both get $50 a week as an 'allowance', lunches, pedicures etc. Since the end of March I have saved $553 of that in my "slush fund". Good luck...run those numbers, you will NOT regret it.
