    June 2020 surgeries

Hello everybody! Had a revision from sleeve to RNY on 6/8. Had my sleeve in 2015 and lost the weight and kept it off for a while. I previously had a pretty unfriendly doctor and when I started having awful, awful acid reflux, he would usually describe it as user error “what are you eating to cause it, etc.” it was pretty rough on me because I felt like all my acid was caused by me and I was failing myself! Then I got on anxiety and depression medication (and the playing around with dosages and prescription) and the weight all of a sudden piled on. I luckily saw a billboard for my current surgeon and on a whim, decided to see if he had tips at least to get the weight loss started again. He was so sweet and helpful and made me realize there were some factors out of my control and the revision was a good plan! Was originally planned for March but COVID delayed and I really struggled with a lot of guilt for gaining/falling off the wagon during quarantine. My doctor was not concerned at all. Hope that helps some of you feeling guilty! Some things that have been helpful for me: * No one knows your body as well as you do. I wish I had been a bit more insistent with my first doctor about the acid reflux - but know I won’t be that way anymore! * I desperately asked my nurses to help me get up and pee in the middle of the night and no one came! I got myself up and did it myself because I had been walking around a lot during the day. Apparently I overexerted myself and gave myself “deep stitch” pain. It was unbearable! Felt like a jab in my left side anytime I did anything! Doctor recommended Aspercreme with Lidocaine to numb the area and alternate between heating pad and ice pack. Also have been using a toddler pillow to press on that area as I stand (like an extra compression of a binder) and that’s been more helpful than I expected! * If watching tv, avoid watching commercials. I found that seeing a pizza commercial made me think I was hungry when I definitely wasn’t! (More applicable to sleeve. Haven’t had any hunger pangs with RNY) * Would also like to recommend BariatricPal 25g Whey Protein & Collagen Power Shots - Crisp Apple only 3oz to drink but gets you 25g of protein! Grateful to have this forum, didn’t even think about it last time! Good luck to everyone else with upcoming surgeries. It can be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel the first few weeks when you’re in pain but when I had the sleeve, I forgot all about the pain and just was so grateful for it!!
  2. Thank you! Doctor said it was deep stitch pain and unfortunately medication won’t help. She’s recommending Aspercreme with lidocaine but it hasn’t helped much yet.
  3. Just got revised 6/8 and my biggest pain is my lower left abdomen and side. Does anyone have any tips for getting through this part? I’m wearing a binder and trying to walk as much as I can. Any tips would be very much appreciated!
