Hi all. I'm 29 and from the UK. I started gaining weight when I was 15 after I developed a severe anxiety disorder. The extra pounds reinforced the anxiety, I stopped going outside, ate more to comfort myself, gained more weight. And so it went - until last year when I got some proper therapy and started on meds. I can go out and do stuff now, even began a bachelor's degree. Now I'd like to address the weight and get my life back, and start doing all the things I want to do.

Tried diets, they work for a while but I can never maintain them. Now considering surgery, the public system here can take a long time (2+ years) and frankly, I don't want to wait - I want to start living - so I'm thinking of private abroad.

I'm sure this has been discussed a lot in this thread, and I know if I find the right person, it shouldn't matter to them. But I am scared about having loose skin. Less so about the stomach and chest area because I know there's surgery to fix that in time. But the butt. I really don't want a saggy skin butt. Is it common?

Can someone please explain the logic here?

Ate some stuff I shouldn't have and felt very ill. Then I got a UTI and felt more ill. This week has been a bad week. On the plus side I'm down 30 pounds since my surgery on the 10th.

This week I really need to focus on hitting my Fluid and Protein targets.

This was over 3 weeks ago so yeah, I'm okay now. Don't think any perm damage has been done.

😮 How odd that my surgeon reckons it's fine to have soft (non pureed) foods now. He even said things like curry are okay. Maybe I should play it safe and follow other, more strict, guidelines.

I'm eating pretty much normal food now - I feel like maybe I shouldn't be because it has only been 5 weeks?

Bit worried that my pouch isn't working as it should, I was expecting to feel full after two or three tablespoons of food. Nowhere near. Not sure why.

I feel like crying. Really let myself down.
I can't believe I've been so stupid. 15 days post op and I thought I'd try a small McDonalds (6 nuggets and plain hamburger). I feel very ill now. And it wasn't even worth it. Was disgusting. Argh so mad at myself!

Oh honey! I felt like crawling through the phone and hugging you. I TOTALLY could see me doing that. Fast food is so darn yummy and FAST and the REGRET just like you said, too. I have lost 45 pounds pre op but I really struggled with eating fast food a couple times a week. I don't know about you, but i swear my subconscious always does that to me. It tells me you've done great, you DESERVE it. Like it's a reward. Its so annoying. I just have to tell myself ok. So what. You aren't perfect, you're only human. Now that you found out it wasn't worth it just try to do better one day at a time. It's ok. Hugs

Had RNY on Aug 10th. Just weighed myself for the first time, 11 pounds gone! 😮

I am feeling okay, not in pain exactly but it feels a bit strange... bit bloated? Really need to get into a better water/protein routine though.

I feel the same way. I'd like to think it's just the post-op blues, but I'm only just realising how difficult this lifestyle change is going to be. Before surgery I was blind to it all, didn't really face up to the realities of it.
I think I may have an eating disorder or a food-related phobia, it goes way beyond fussy eating - I am and always have been scared of most food textures and new things. I've literally gone days without food even when there's been food in the house, because I just couldn't face it.

The 'small portion, healthy diet' would be okay if I could eat that food but right now I don't see how I'll be able to. Seeing my doctor in a few days, hopefully he can refer me to a service that deals with this stuff.

Yes, but I want to know if its physically possible (ie can you eat a burger and fries with a pouch stomach).

I realise this is maybe not the best attitude to have one week post-op - but I would feel so much better about this if I knew that one day, when I'm healthy, I can enjoy the occasional bit of fast food like everyone else. Can people who have had a bypass eat a McDonalds if they want to?

Booked for bypass on August 10. Much sooner than I thought. I only really started seriously considering surgery two months ago. 😮

I'm so disappointed in myself. I am 6 days into the liver reducing diet (following a milk diet), but I've had fast food every day. That's even more than I usually do. It's as though my brain has started craving all the things that I know I won't be having again. I feel like this is just classic me being self-destructive.

Amazingly I haven't gained any weight because I've not been eating anything else, just fast food for dinner. I'm hoping I can put this past week behind me and start afresh, my surgery is on the 10th - is that enough time to turn it around?
