So! Today I got the Bariatric hot chocolate in and OMG I love it!! It has Protein in it and I'm not getting near the protein that I am needing because if lactose intolerance and issues with the Protein Shakes. So I'm one happy chick today!! So glad to get something to get my protein intake up! Also got some of the protein soups! Excited to try one of those for lunch later!!

I was also told when your Fluid levels are low you will think you're hungry, but in reality you're actually thirsty. Try drinking a bit more. It might help!

I thought the same for myself & was told the same by people.
I was 192 lbs at 5'5" (size 10), but I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high triglycerides. I went to the appointment with the surgeon scared he'd deny me but he said he thought I'd be a good candidate because of my other health issues, then I was scared the insurance company would reject me... but my insurance approved my surgery and paid for it.
I will say my weight is coming off much slower than it does for people who have a higher weight to begin with.
But I am 170 lbs now and over 5 weeks post-op.
I say GO FOR IT. It is one of the best decisions I've made for myself (along with lasik surgery). I would have NEVER gotten off of sugar and carbs without the surgery. Now I do NOT want them or need them, especially sugar. 🤮

My surgery was cancelled twice .. both times because my A1C was high. It took me 2 years to have the surgery. I finally had it 2/27/2020. It was worth the wait .

Oh no! I am so sorry! Mine was NOT cancelled, but the Tuesday before my surgery which was scheduled for Thursday -- they told me I needed another EKG & stress test done and my surgery could possibly be postponed.. The next day (Wednesday)-- the day before my surgery... I had both done.
Luckily I passed both and literally found out I got cleared for surgery for the next day... late in the afternoon on Wednesday.
I had gotten my previous EKG & stress test more than 2 months prior -- not sure why it took them 2 days before the surgery to decide that mine needed to be done again?....
I am sorry that happened to you. Try to remember that it being done as a precaution & to ensure you're in good health before having major surgery.

Lanie992 got a reaction from Zom B in Clothes during Weight Loss
I can't wear my size 8 jeans anymore!! They're too big. I had been getting away with wearing them at times but they're falling off of me now. I am in a size 4 but my size 6's still work too... FWIW, I wear American Eagle jeans only. Their sizes seems to be consistent across all different jean types. Size 4s are tight but loosen up & fit good..
I haven't lost any more weight, but I have lost an inch and a half in my waist.. an inch in my hips and an inch in my bust.

Nicely done! That is amazing! I agree - I wish I would have done it sooner as well.. But better late than never, right?
    Congratulations.

I actually have eaten some avocado too. Didn't notice a difference either. My body seems okay, but my mind is always tired.

Like STLoser - I was weak for at least 3 weeks too, but it will go away in time. I've never been more tired in my life and just getting up to go to the bathroom was laboring.

I appreciate your concerns about being able to enjoy dining out post surgery. It was one of mine as well. The challenges for me when dining out is quantity & time. I need time to eat & I can’t eat much. I often find hovering wait staff wanting to clear the table stressful & sets off my restriction more quickly. At least in high end dining the portion size with a main course is reasonable & quite manageable though I still usually order an entree (appetiser). Usually I quietly explain I’m on a medically restricted diet & they’re ok with that though I have been faced with being told I had to order a main as a minimum. My biggest regret is degustation menus. There are many restaurants I’d love to go to but would not be able to enjoy or consume a 6, 7, 8+ course tasting menu. (I wish I’d never put off going to Attica & I’ll never go back to Vue de Monde in Melbourne. Heavy sobbing.)
Pre surgery I enjoyed a sweet treat but didn’t have sugar cravings. I struggle with all sweet things now. Simply because of it being dramatically reduced from my pre & post surgical diet. So many things just taste far too sweet. I only eat fruit if I want a little sugar boost. Artificial sweeteners only feed your sugar cravings & there’s so much in foods today it’s very difficult to avoid it. Some sleevers can’t tolerate it at all & dump but it’s more of the exception.
There are changes you will have to make to how you eat & what you eat to be successful with your weight loss & then to maintain the loss whether you have the surgery or decide to do it yourself. It is a big decision to have the surgery. You just have to weigh (pun not intended) up the pros & cons. For me, losing the weight & being healthy won out every time & I haven’t regretted it.
I wish you luck with whichever path you decide to take.

I would like to add too that during the pre and post op diet stages you will detox all of the sugar and junk out of your system completely.

As you add foods back in during the weeks after surgery, you will ultimately choose what will be part of your new normal diet.

Oh my goodness! What support and what helpful answers you have given. I love the term "Food Funeral" and I love the fact you have all basically stated that one can still enjoy food, but the quantities are just smaller. I also love the positivity I hear about your experiences. Thank you.
I joined and posted today because I have heard wonderful things about Gastric Sleeve, but then a close friend said that I need to ask the tough questions. 5 years ago I gave up drinking and smoking and I NEVER looked back. I did, however, get lots of support.
I know it will be hard at the start but I will gain health and confidence in the long run.

I would try to figure it out and get it done in October. No one knows what's going on with CoVid and whether there will be a second, much worse outbreak. Things could start shutting down again. The sooner you do it - the better. And you will be thankful you didn't postpone it once your surgery is over with... You can ask questions on here and get the help you need to be prepared.

Yup. I had that "head hunger" bad in the first few weeks & it really makes you believe you're hungry. MANY people on here have discussed having this on here. It is not uncommon at all. For most - it is all in your head, but perception is reality..

I brought a robe (it gets cold in the hospital rooms), knee high socks, an extra long phone cord charger and my laptop computer! I was hooked up. I would bring chapstick and face wipes if I did it again though. Other than that - you should be set.
    Good luck!!

    Wow it's coming in fast.
I got a call today, they want to schedule my bypass surgery for Oct 26, exactly 2 weeks from today! I am totally unprepared! I don't have any supplies! I am not sure I call pull it off by the 26th. Plus, it is very short notice for time off from my job!
I am very stressed about this. First they told me early November and that is great, perfect even. They are going to get back to me if they have a November date, if not I will be taking the 26th of Oct, and start fasting the day after tomorrow!
I'm not sure where to start. Not sure what kind of Protein Water to buy, etc.
I started this journey in August of 2019, lost my job and insurance in Oct 2019. Was blessed to get a new job with the same insurance in April. Now my bariatric checklist is done. My health is terrible and I can't this surgery soon enough. However I want to be able to do it right. Any advice appreciated!

The same thing happened to me, got a call two weeks before surgery just after things started opening after covid. It got postponed two months. It'll never be the perfect time. Go get it done. Things will work out. All you need to get started are Protein Drinks and Water.

If I as to plan it all again I would start in the kitchen pantry. Clean and organize to make finding your favorite things easier.
Next I works get dedicated measuring cups, small plates/bowls & Water bottles, pill organizers, etc.
Last I would clean my house to make everything easier to find if someone will help you during recovery.
I would only get a small amount of post op foods/protein shakes before surgery because your tolerance may change.
I can't remember needing more than that the early weeks post op
    Good Luck ♥️

I bought two pairs of jeans on ebay for about $40 for both -- bought them to fit tight, so they'd loosened up after wearing them during the day & so they'd fit for awhile.
You can go to Walmart & get tshirts (both long sleeve & short sleeve) for around $5.
I've read people also shop at Goodwill or thrift shops to get cheap clothes.
For workout gear - I went to TJ Maxx, Marshalls & Ross.

It was my first surgery too. Don't be scared - it will be fine. You will have pain medicine to help alleviate the pain. In fact, I only used my pain medicine for the first three days after I got home from the hospital. Sure the first few weeks are uncomfortable, but not bad.
Getting the sleeve is one of the best decisions I've made in my life.
You got this! You can do this! 💪
