I did too for at least 3 weeks AFTER surgery, then I got used to it.
If you want a good alternative to chips - get Quest Protein chips. They are a great protein source (19g) with low net carbs (4g) and only 1g of sugar. The Ranch flavor tastes just like Cool Ranch Doritos. They are kind of pricey though.. but Sam's Club and Target carry them.

    I may be an outlier...
Started process at 308 (bmi of 41). Sleeved on 6/22 at 286. Last I weighed myself on Friday (4.5 weeks post op), I was down to 244 (after a stall for 1.5 weeks at ~250). Not saying this to boast; I don't think I'm doing anything different than anyone else. My main point is that everyone loses weight differently. I fully expect my weight loss to slow down significantly, while others' weight loss will be accelerating.
    39 year old male, BTW.

in that case, I would lay off the "tough love" responses. It takes a lot of finesse to be able to give that without offending people. I have a master's degree in counseling psych, and am 60 years old to boot (i.e., have been around the block a few times), and I STILL struggle with how to respond to some people at times without offending them. It's an art.

In addition, a "tough love" response was completely inappropriate in this particular situation

27 lbs is A LOT! I've been hanging out on various bariatric forums for the last 6-7 years. It seems like most people lose somewhere in the 15-25 lb range the first month - so you're actually above average. I think sometimes people expect to lose 30+ lbs the first month - but that's actually not all that common. I think that expectation comes from shows like "My 600 lb Life", but you have to remember where those people are starting. WAY more than most of us - and of course, starting BMI is one of the factors that determines your rate of weight loss. So you are just fine!!
also - eggs. An egg intolerance isn't uncommon the first few weeks or months - but for most people, it's temporary. So I'm betting it was that...

27lb in four weeks is not slow at all.
It took me a while to tolerate scrambled egg, Now I eat one or two eggs most days, though I only use a sliver of butter to grease the pan.

I had surgery 4 weeks ago. I am 38 years old. 5'11 now 6 months ago I was 6'1 but 2 back surgerys shrunk me. I weighed 327 lbs on the day of surgery. As of yesterday I weigh 300lbs. My weight loss was slow because for two weeks I couldn't get Water down and anything I ate I was throwing up. It takes time for the body to figure out what is going on. Today I tried to eat scrambled egg and got a Migraine and was sick again. Don't know if it was the egg or the oil.

Definitely normal. I gained over 10 lbs right after surgery. I had never been over 200 lbs in my life and planned to NEVER hit the 200 lbs mark but I was 203 lbs for a few days after surgery. and I panicked.
It is just all the air they pump in you and the IV fluids.. only lasts for like 3-5 days and it will vanish. Don't worry!!

Starting weight and your height and BMI are all a part of figuring out where you will end up. I started at 5'3"; 54 years old and 320 pounds. After a year, I could never get under 170. But I was really happy with that. I put back about 8 to 10 pounds that second year..... and then....
Experienced a tough few years these past 7 or 8 years and gained back to 220 pounds. (STILL 100 pounds lighter !)
Took the last year and attacked it - slowly, and carefully - now I am 64 years old, 5'2" and 181 pounds.
I reset my goal as 175. I would be pleased to be between 175 and 180. Age adjusted BMI will be overweight, but both my doctors and I will be pleased with that. And yes, I am saggy and baggy. But I do not think elective surgeries are in my future. Need new knees.
Frankly, I am thrilled with myself this year. I will have lost my regain. I will be back to having lost basically 140 pounds.
Think about all you have accomplished !!!

Wow, I thought I was discouraged when I got up this morning, but now, after seeing the chart above, I am even more discouraged with my weight loss. I’m doing everything right so I don’t know what’s going wrong. I am 7 weeks postop and have only lost 24 pounds. The odd thing is my weight loss really slowed down once I started exercising a couple of weeks ago.

    😢😔

Your weight loss is not slow at all given your lower start weight. People have unrealistic expectations of bariatric weight loss based on what they may have seen on television or on forums, what they forget to do is account for their own personal circumstances: weight loss immediately prior to surgery, surgery day weight, age, gender, activity levels, medical conditions medication, hormones, Fluid intake, calorie and Protein intake etc etc etc

While I realize no two people are the same (and I'm sure some folks might not like this chart..), I LOVE having an idea of what's possible (hopefully even probable!) - I'd love to see how others further into this journey have fallen into this chart.

Was encouraging to realize despite my slow weight loss, I am on target. I weighed 211 on day of surgery. I am 8 weeks postop and my weight today is 190.2 pounds. Those weighing 200 pounds on day of sugery weighed 184 on average at 3 months. So I will quite likely to weigh below 184 (6 pounds to go) at 3 months. I need to remember that those much heavier at time of surgery show faster weight loss in the first 3 months. So I am encouraged. Hope some of you find this table helpful.

I had a psychological upset today.. My brother has been sick with colon issues, so I've been down helping him. As well as my mom. We just found out that he has Covid, So we've both been exposed. I've got to stay here because my mom needs help and her caretakers can not come for two weeks because we've all been exposed to Covid. I am scared my mom got it (and me as well).
Anyway, I ended up eating WAY too much to cope... and I am so much pain right now. For some reason - I haven't been able to throw up post-surgery ... ( I used to throw up easily before because I get Migraines and puke from them). I wish I could make myself throw up so I'd feel better.
Anyway - I've only done this a couple of times and when it happens.. I just have to lay down for about TWO HOURS until it passes. It is miserable. Try not to ever test yourself and overeat.. it is misery.

Holier-than-thou isn't what this forum is about. I've read many posts that has seriously helped me! I think it's great to have a place to reach out to when one has a difficult time, I've read some terrific advice . I've read responses to people that they may not be ready for surgery yet, that they need to work on preparing their selves better, but not running people down in their time of need. My weight has been all over the spectrum, when I was in the military & worked construction I never saw myself becoming obese one day, but it sure happened. We all have faced a lot of hard facts to get to this point. Since you're so good at succeeding, why did you need wls surgery! I wonder how your psych evaluation went prior to surgery, bet you didn't show your ugly side! You know that old saying "I may be fat, but your ugly, I can always lose weight" Well, your judgement is UGLY!

I'm sick of people telling me oh you must find a woman close to your age but I'm yet to meet a woman over 30 that doesn't have a bunch of kids yet and also the issue with the woman biological clock could stop at 40; as I'm yet to begin a family and it will be a year from now before I get near my goal weight and start a family so the only logical choice is looking for a girl that's around 10 years below as I want 4 kids which takes 10 years to make happen and that's only if all things are going perfectly so yeah it's hard to start dating when at my age I'm ready for kids and marriage and every girl I've spoken to anywhere near 30+ has kids and divorcee so it's hard indeed so I've made the decision for myself to look 10 years younger at least so I'll be able to have many kids

it is harder to find a girl as you get older because most have a bunch of kids or baggage but I've already decided because I want a big family I'll definitely have to look at ladies about 10 years below me so that there's no issues with them having children
