I think that since it’s now March, we should make a February 2020 post op thread.

I did it. I had my sleeve done on the 28th. They have not let me go home yet because my hemoglobin is low. But I feel really good. I think second day was the worst with the gas pain, but it’s gone. Yesterday I was sipping away, I thought they lied to me and didn’t take my stomach. today I feel like I’m swallowing air so I’m keeping it slow. Over all I’m feeling really good. How’s everyone else doing.

@smund - so sorry to hear about your struggles. Things will get better. I hope they can repair your teeth easily. I didn’t even know it was a possibility until the surgeon told me about 20 minutes before surgery.

Awww cool! As a nurse maybe she concentrated on all the stuff that could go wrong. Now, she has researched. It was the best decision even with getting GERD.

I walk, run and play. Your turn in a few months. Kiss her as you go into the operating room. Tell her you will be right back! Then do just that and kiss her again!

Yes, the burping eases up a lot. Once you start adding in soft foods in a couple weeks, be prepared for some gas on the other end. 😂😬

Apparently very common. I had my first post-op with the nutritionist yesterday in a group, and one of the women in my group said the same thing. The nutritionist said it is common, your body is still adjusting to the major shock of surgery, you may be retaining fluids, you may be swollen, and everyone is different. She said she wished people would stay off the scale for the first few weeks, but she knows everyone is curious. She stressed hydration, and making sure we are hitting Protein goals, and if your bowels aren't working add some Miralax. However, understanding it's "normal" and going through all this and gaining weight has got to be a downer. Hang in there, the scale will move!

I weighed myself this afternoon and almost burst into tears! I haven't been under 300 pounds since I was 17! 15 years ago! And my scale said 298.4 pounds! I was almost bouncing with how happy I was and started texting tons of family members and friends lol. They all know how big this is for me and... dang it now I'm crying... It's not even a month since I had my surgery and I'm so glad I did it! Now every ten pounds is likely to put me in tears again lol, but I'm sooooo happy!
What was everyone else's first big milestone? Do you feel like sharing your own experience?

This is gonna sound like bragging, and I guess it is....but for the first time in my life my waist size and inseam size in pants is the same number: 32
At my biggest I was a 60" waist, so this is REALLY a huge milestone for me. My surgery was November 2016.
Started at 485. Current weight 200.

Hey @DB in AZ I’m ready. I’m extremely nervous just starting today to get really bad. I keep looking at my kids and wondering if I’ll see them again(I know......I’m being ridiculous). But anyways, I think I have everything ready. My pre-op is going good. I can eat 3 ounces of lean meat for lunch and dinner but I haven’t even really wanted to. I’m amazed that I don’t feel hungry.
    anyways, tomorrow.....here we come!!!

Had my miniGBS yesterday morning. I wasn’t prepare for the level of nausea and pain. Also very dizzy, so I didn’t walk at all yesterday. Feeling more myself this morning. Mouth is insanely dry, but can only drink Water 2oz at a time, 15-20 minute apart.

I don’t want to scare anybody, just wants you to know that if you do get the same symptoms, they won’t last too long.

I’m 6 days out of my mgb and food has been playing mind games with me. I don’t really feel hungry, but making meals for my family (I have 4 kids and a hubby) and not being able to even taste it to check the seasoning, etc. is hard. My head is screaming at me for food, but my stomach says “no ma’am”. I don’t really feel hungry, but at the same time my body feels starved for nutrition, despite getting in enough fluids and all my Vitamins.< br />
On a positive note, I ate my first real “food” this morning - some heavily watered down Greek yogurt with a half scoop of unflavoured Protein Powder. It was about 1/2 cup and took an hour to eat, but I got it down alright. I have noticed, however, that I’m not getting that full stomach feeling until it’s over full. This is probably because it’s still swollen and healing.

    How is everyone else doing?

I’d also suggest not looking at a scale. I did today, and I weigh 12lbs more than when I went in for surgery. I know it’s all bloating, etc, but it does suck to see a higher than pre-surgery number, especially when you’ve taken in fewer than 400 calls over 4 days.

@lisa - I had the exact same symptoms this morning. A raging headache, dark urine, extreme nausea. My doctor gave the same advice - focus on fluids, forget about Protein Shakes for now. He even suggested having some watered down apple juice. It’s definitely helped. I flew home today, and the last 30 minutes were awful. Constant turbulence that was so bad that my Fitbit was counting it as steps. 😮🤢Needless to say, it took a while for my tummy to settle down.

I’d highly recommend for anyone flying out after that you take gravel and have someone pull/push your suitcase for you. Mine wasn’t heavy, but after 20 minutes of walking with it, it felt like I had done a billion sit ups.

I'm really struggling. Yesterday I still had IV fluids until around noon; Beginning last evening I started peeing all that out. I woke up this morning genuinely thirsty, but I can only take a tiny sip or I get nauseous. I've dry heaved after taking my chopped up medicine. This morning I sucked on a sugar free popsicle while walking around my house. It was a tiny popsicle, and I got about a third in before I started to get that nauseous feeling. It was great until then, though!
This morning I filled a 24 ounce water bottle and put it in the fridge. I am taking an ounce or so at a time, with a couple of ice cubes, and just sipping it. Re-fill, repeat.
I am also going to try to make a cup of hot mint tea, with a little stevia, and sip that until I can't, then refrigerate the rest for some iced tea later. 8 oz. more
I'm going to try some Bone Broth this afternoon. 8 oz. liquid PLUS 9 g. or protein; we'll see how much I can get in.
I've set alarms for 10, 2 and 6 to try to get as much Protein Shake in as I can. But today I am all about hydrating first.
I feel like I am girding for battle! But on the upside, I'm more sore than in pain, and I slept 5 straight hours! Got up, took Tylenol, then walked around for a bit, went back to bed and slept another 3hours! Yeah for sleep!
How is your post-op battle progressing?
