Today is my first day on purees. Yay, finally moving to the next stage! I thought the first day of purees was going to be yesterday, but recounted and it wasn't until today. My first meal was 1/2 scrambled egg whisked with Fairlife milk and it was delish, experienced no nausea and it filled me up, which is absolutely amazing to me. It looks like such a tiny amount in this "big" 7 oz ramekin, but I wanted to see what my new normal portion looked like in a regular sized dish. For lunch, I'm going to try refried Beans with a little smashed avocado (thanks Uomograsso) and Protein Powder.

Girl it was no joke. My oldest daughter is a competitive swimmer and I took her to swim that first night. Went out to the car, laid Thursday seat back, turned the key so I could get the heater seat going and took the best nap ever! I told her coach it was a “ Rachel is sleeping at the pool tonight” nap..... he didn’t think that was funny...

I’ll tell you though the second day was worse! Im finally out of the fog and up an hour really because I promised my 9 year old I’d bake Cookies for her project that’s due today and oh yeah, she reminded me at bedtime 😒 fun times.

I am on soft foods here was my day yesterday
BF: 1 packet sugar free maple brown sugar oatmeal with 1 scoop of GENEPRO Protein Powder and splash of sugar free salted caramel Syrup -159 cal total
L: 2 oz refried Beans, 1 oz cheddar cheese Soup, 1 oz red enchilada sauce, 2 oz avocado - 158 calories total
D: Ricotta bake with unflavored Protein powder mixed in - 200 calories total
Snack: Dannon light and fit key lime Greek yogurt- 80 calories
Also had a bariatric hot chocolate for 90 calories
Total for the day 686 calories, 86 grams protein, 48 net carbs, 15 grams sugar, 21 grams fat and 12 grams Fiber. I have started exercising again and found I need to keep above 600 calories or I just drag butt all day. My weight loss has tapered off but I am not worried. There will be good weeks and bad weeks, but it will all average out.

I was sleeved just two weeks ago and totally understand how you are feeling. I experienced anxiety before and even the next day though I was told everything went smoothly and the surgery lasted only 35 minutes. I think it is normal. Try to think about the healthy, thin you and all the fun things you are going to enjoy with your little girl!
As far as it being a hard road, I can honestly say it hasn't been for me. I was in the hospital only one night, even though I was told to plan for two. I had very little pain, really just soreness when I sat up or sat down. I was up walking 3-4 hours after surgery, and I walked and walked until I was released at 8PM the next evening. I have followed all directions and haven't even experienced any nausea. I know it is different for each person, but don't worry too much about about the recovery issues because they subside quickly. Follow all of your medical team's instructions and you will be just fine. You got this!

Ya'll are all ahead of me. I still have a few more days of liquids. I mentioned a couple of days ago that I was in my groove with the liquids, but I TAKE THAT BACK because today was tough. I was hungry. 😟On a positive note, I've lost 15 lbs in 2 weeks! I didn't walk today because it was icky outside, and I didn't do my Yoga either because I just didn't have the energy. I'm averaging 88g of Protein a day, getting a minimum of 64 ozs of fluids, and 450-550 calories.
All the foods ya'll have posted sound wonderful right now!
    My vitamins:
Bariatric multi Vitamin with iron-1X day (I ordered on here)
    liquid B-12- 2X a day
    B1- 1X a day
    D3- 1X a day
    Biotin- 1X a day
chewable calcium-2X a day at noon and before bed

It's going to take a couple of months for the tissues to heal. You have to live in the moment - one day at a time. You can't be worrying about future events that have never happened yet. Keep bringing yourself back to a mindful state of enjoying each day, as it unfolds. If you are consumed by future worries you will never be able to enjoy the day you have now,

Alright, I'm not posting as much as many of ya'll, but I'm still around and reading - kudos to all of you for the hard work! Progress update on this end: Surgical date: 1/6/20 (VSG) - weight 310.5. Weight check this morning was 275.6. YEAH BABY!
The hardest thing for me has been finding things that don't leave my stomach feeling "heavy" (I don't know how else to describe it). I'm doing lots of soup/stews and eggs (which are easy for me fortunately). Without getting too graphic let me suggest everyone stay on top of their Fiber supplements. Constipation is NOT fun. For those struggling, stool softeners will be your friend.
Continued good luck to you all!

Speaking of how little we can eat...I love love love how much money I’m saving on food!!! Living in NYC I had become a delivery food junky. Every day was logging on to grubhub to see what’s for lunch or dinner or both. We were averaging $40/day, sometimes more. That’s over $1,000/month on restaurants alone. I deleted all food apps from my phone and am truly loving being in the kitchen trying out the recipes posted here. Thank you peeps!!

Just had 1oz eggbeaters with 1/2oz mushroom, 1/2 oz snow crab and was able to eat it all. Yay!! Full 2 oz in one sitting and no foamy backup for first time in 5 weeks. Today is beginning of week 6 so happy to have found something I can stomach. Thanks to those who mentioned eggbeaters. I don’t like egg whites and still hate throwing out food so couldn’t bring myself to crack an egg and throw away the yolk. Eggbeaters is a great alternative for me. It seems expensive but considering how little I can eat, I feel it will be worth it.
  16. Congrats!

So, this is going to sound crazy, but I'm not so sure I'm looking forward to moving on to pureed foods on Thursday (day 17). I seem to finally be in my groove now with the liquids! Ha! I'm quite satisfied to drink a cup of Soup or broth with Protein Powder, or drink some greek yogurt thinned with Fairlife milk. Will moving to pureed, then soft foods, then regular, reactivate my former appetite? I know, I know, I told you it was crazy. I'm just worried. I've only felt hungry once, and today, I had to make myself drink some soup. I'm reaching my Protein and Water goals. I read about all of you eating these itsy bitsy meals and I wonder how in the heck I'll get a minimum of 60g of protein and if I will feel satisfied as I do now. AND I've lost 14 pounds, so I'm a happy girl!

Hang in there! It will get better. I'm still on liquids too, but will start purees on Thursday, which will be day 17 post-op for me. Do you have any Protein Powder? It sure makes a difference. I add it to Soups thinned with Fairlife milk, or broth, and it is very filling. Find some Soup that you really like, for me it it is Carrot Ginger and Tomato with Roasted Pepper from Trader' Joe's, thin it down with broth or milk, add some Protein powder, and maybe that will help. I blend mine in Magic Bullet before warming. You've got this, girl!

I'm using GENEPRO and I really like it. You only have to use a small scoop to get 30 grams of Protein and only 59 calories. I tried Isopure, but you have to use more to get 30 grams of protein and it is 112 calories.

First off. You are not LITERALLY dying. You are experiencing head hunger. Tell yourself that and name the reality. Do not let your head dictate and reinforce a lie.

It is HARD. Dealing with the head hunger was one of the worst parts about recovery and the process. But please, it is very important to follow your doctor's and RD's progression plan. No you CAN'T have any of the things you mentioned--unless maybe you want to put and emergency call into your doc and ask for his or her permission to progress your diet as you are suggesting.
It's a short, temporary stage. Work your plan and your plan will work for you. This is the time to take advantage of it. What stage are you in? If I read this correctly you are in Stage 2: Full liquids?

Here are suggestions for full liquids:
    1. Creamed Soups made with Fairlife Milk, spice them up with garlic powder, or your favorite spice. Make sure to strain out any lumps. Eat it slowly. (You can add Protein Powder to it - unsweetened, while it is cool and get the clumps out, then gently heat to no more than 140degrees to prevent Protein coagulation = lumps.

    2. Make Greek yogurt, plain unsweetened, and sweeten with your favorite drops with zero cals. Thin them out with Premier Protein or with Fairlife Milk until it is a cream Soup consistency. Or get sugar free fat free Kefir and thin it out to cream soup consistency. Eat it slowly.

    3. Use broth and doctor it up with unflavored protein powder + flavorings:

pizza = Broth + 1-2 tbsp low sugar, low cal, low carb marinara (strain it before eating)
Mexican Tortilla = Broth + 1-2 tbsp mild enchilada sauce or Taco Bell Mild Sauce + garlic + cumin
Asian (Pho) = Broth + 1-2 tbsp Walden Farms Asian or Sesame Ginger + Chinese Five Spice Powder + granulated garlic + a couple drops sesame oil

    4. Eat a sugar free popsicle

    5. Eat a sugar free jello

Drink your Water and concentrate on getting 100% of your water in! When hungry or head hunger hits, drink a glass of water slowly as you're instructed for your stage, and get up and walk. Then get creative by coloring or doing something that occupies your mind and your hands.

Do four square breathing (google it).
    Get outside if weather permits.
Talk to your family or a friend or get busy posting here.
Quit watching TV commercials and break up with FoodTV and food channels.
You can do this. It's only 1 more week. You have this. Maximize this opportunity. No one every regrets maximizing their success.

I agree with BadWolfGirl. Start slow on soft purées and let your body be the guide. But try to get away from Protein Shakes and try to get a balanced diet in. And stay hydrated. I also can not drink protein shakes mixes. Blahh plus they r just too much for me. They make me want to throw up. But u will be amazed at the energy you will have once u start to get some real foods in. It’s as like night and day! It was great!! Yayy 14lbs down that is great!!

I dont think there's much harm in extending your liquid diet if your happy and healing well! But I will say this, eating purees and such has helped me feel more more energetic and human. The extra calories are helpful. Also, I only get about 30 g of protein from food which based on a 400 calorie diet is about right. It will go up as I can eat more at one sitting etc. I can't stomach most Protein Shakes and avoid them like the plague but I do have them if needed.

This guy breaks protein down quite well.

Had my band to MGB on 14th Jan. Doing great. Down about 20lb from surgery date. Have had no issues at all, never an issue getting Water down. 2 weeks liquid and nearly finished 2 weeks blended. It’s been easier than I thought, especially compared to eating with the band. Only thing I worry about is the amount I can eat already. As I went from band to bypass the surgeon had to leave a bigger pouch. I feel I can eat a lot and be hungry again quite quickly. Hopefully this will change when I move to more solid food. I’m surprised I feel hungry quite a bit, and not just head hunger.

I have a sleeve and I'm not having any problem or restriction getting liquid down. I can easily drink 8 ozs in 15-20 minutes. I won't start pureed until Friday, so I'll see how that goes.
