Happy doctor dropped 3 meds postop
Maybe because I lost 40 pounds preop and was on 3. I am still on one.

Add Genepro to Chicken Broth?
I mix ISOPURE with chicken broth and really like it. I add one scoop (25g protein) to 8 ounces of a little more than warm broth. Any whey protein added to hot will lump up. If you are making in advance, are you going to drink cold or try to rewarm. I put my broth protein in insulated coffee cup with lid on tight and it stays warm over an hour. I tried drinking when not warm anymore and did not taste good. I rewarm cold protein broth by adding a few ounces of hot to the cool instead of zapping in microwave or on stovetop.

Low B1 and High cholesterol - has this happened to you too?
Usually they don't start statins until cholesterol at 200. Most people with high cholesterol have it because their own body is making it as opposed to your diet. What was your LDL and HDL? The 190 is the sum of the two and could be less serious if your HDL is higher. HDL is "good cholesterol" and the higher the better. The ratio of LDL/HDL is more important than total cholesterol number. Statins can have serious side effects. Important to WLS patients, statins can make you gain weight. I wouldn't just take Lipitor because chosen by my doctor. Some doctors choose the same statin for all patients. There are statins with fewer side effects like simvastatin which I took for 25 years. I had VSG last week and was thrilled my doctor told me to quit my statin. If I were you, I would study the various statins and determine which best fits you. Then discuss with doctor. Lipitor is the most common statin prescribed but also has more serious side effects than others.

Are 300 calories a day typical postop?
Amazes me that dietitians seem ignorant of Vit K2. I bet it is K1 in multivitamins so why they think deficiency is rare. One paper says MK-7 can be cleaved by body enzymes into MK-4 when needed so makes sense to take MK-7. Fermented soybeans (natto) major source in Japan. Impotant for deposit of calcium in bone. The following people are likely deficient in K2. -take antacids -menopausal -on statins -GI problems (IBS, diverticulitis)

No BiPAP in Recovery room. Terrible experience.
Despite all best plannings, my BiPAP macine was not available for me in PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit). I discussed my severe obstructive sleep apnea with anesthesiologist, surgeon and preop nurse. We all agreed that I needed to have my BiPAP on immediately after operating room. I even took it out of case and totally assembled it so all they needed to do is put on my mask. Didn't go as planned. When I arrived to PACU from operating room I was having difficulty breathing and immediately said, "I need my BiPAP." I was told it had been sent with all my other belongings to my hospital room. I really struggled to breathe. Coughed frequently to open airway and get a gasp of air. The male nurse said, "You have oxygen mask on. You don't need BiPAP." What an ignorant nurse. Oxygen isn't going anywhere when my airway is closed off. He clearly had no education or knowledge about severe obstructive sleep apnea in recovery room. I struggled for 45 minutes trying to breathe with coughs and gasps. Kept myself from falling asleep because didn't want to be intubated to fix breathing. Could hear the monitor alarming with dropping pO2. They finally decided I was stable to go to my hospital room. BiPAP was applied immediately. I finally could relax and breathe. I slept 13 hours and only awake when nurse came in to give blood thinner shot or add pain med to my IV. I emailed my bariatric center coordinator later and she immediately discussed with supervisor of PACU. No patient with severe obstructive sleep apnea should ever be deprived of their CPAP/BiPAP in recovery room. It is very dangerous. It is well-known that we need machines immediately because we are unable to keep airway open if we fall asleep in drugged state. And positioned on our back when obstruction is worst. Was a very scary and uncomfortable experience.

Covid Test!
I had covid test for colonoscopy two weeks before my surgery. I had to take it again for surgery. The second was the new type that just goes up nose a bit. Much better than the one that feels like going up into eyes. I think I am skewing my state's statistics. They have tested me 4 times preprocedure, all negative.

Artificial sweetners just as bad as sugar
I think the big problem with artificial sweeteners is people think zero calories, have all you want. Some drink 10 diet cokes a day for example. I don't think people are overdoing artificial sweeteners with desserts, etc. Use natural sweeteners that do not raise blood sugar like Monk Juice and Allulose (new rare natural sugar).

Are 300 calories a day typical postop?
You take Vitamin K2 alone or with D3. So many formulas but from what I've read, Vit K1 is for clotting factors and K2 is for bone and hear health.

Revisión
About the only way you can get revision is serious GERD. But weight gain that soon after sleeve may indicate to some surgeons you aren't ready to undergo another procedure. Check with your bariatric center and see if what you are eating is contributing to weight gain. (are you back to old habits like soda, fast food, junk food, snacking, grazing, etc,). Also be aware that some medications can cause weight gain. Check any meds you take for weight gain as side effect. You need to figure out what is really going on before considering surgery again. With the restriction gone from sleeve, your weight now depends on you and see what you can do to fix problem. Getting regular exercise?

GELATEIN20 jello cups
When you calculate how much unflavored whey power you'd need to make your own, this is cheaper. ISOPURE Zero scoops have 25g protein per scoop. Genepro has 20g per scoop. Just the protein powder costs more than case of GELATEIN20. I am using mostly during my clear fluid stage where it is hard to drink enough water protein drinks.

Things that Taste Like Peanut Butter
Bad artificial sweetener, maltitol and maltitol Syrup. Proven to raise blood sugar. Find something with sweetener that doesn't raise blood sugar. Rise in blood sugar releases insulin which then stores unused glucose in fat. Not good for WLS people.

GELATEIN20 jello cups
I bought GELATEIN20 on Amazon for my clear stage. You get 20g protein in little 4 oz Jello cup. Really helps meet protein goals. Fruit Punch taste a little like kids couvh syrup but it isn't too sweet and easy for me to eat. I have yet to find anything that makes me nauseous so may be different for others.

Are 300 calories a day typical postop?
I have been faithfully taking one Bariatric Fusion Multivitamin, B12, Calcium/D3 and Biotin since day one as instructed by doctor in postop orders. Been a little confused about multivitamin. I take fusion chewable once a day according to discharge orders. But bariatric center in preop education said I needed to take 4 each day. Will double check on Monday on postop visit. One thing I don't like about fusion is they do not include Vitamin K. Will ask if I need to get separate Vit K. If I take Fusion 4x a day, I get 1200mg Calcium in addition to the 1200 mg I get from Calcium+D3. I think that is too much Calcium (2400 mg). Until Monday, I am taking just one Fusion a day which gives me 1500 mg Calcium. I already have early osteopenia in hips by bone density scan so Calcium/D3/Vit K are all necessary to rebuild lost bone. Recommded D3 for me is 4000 IU per day so I take additional two D3 2000 IU per day. I really don't like that I get no Vit K in FUSION. The company that makes FUSION told me the don't include Vit K because interacts with a few people on blood thinners and that deficiency of Vit K is "rare". Then why do ALL OTHER Multivitamins on the market (bariatric, OTC and kids) all include Vitamin K? I am not believing I don't need Vit K supplement. But will wait to see doctor before I add Vit K supplement.

Artificial sweetners just as bad as sugar
I would guess that maltitol and xylitol could cause dumping, They both raise blood glucose while others don't.

Are 300 calories a day typical postop?
I am still in week one clear fluids following VSG last Thursday. I am easily getting at least 70 oz of fluids and 70 g Protein. But the only carbs I get are 5 calorie Jello. So at the end of the day all my calories are from protein. Each gram of protein is 4 calories. So 4x70=280 calories total for day. I have yet to get 300 calories. Is this typical? I was so used to 800-1200 calories per day. Is that why we lose so much weight first few weeks after surgery?

Artificial sweetners just as bad as sugar
"...data in both animal models and humans suggest that the effects of artificial sweeteners may contribute to metabolic syndrome and the obesity epidemic. Artificial sweeteners appear to change the host microbiome, lead to decreased satiety, and alter glucose homeostasis, and are associated with increased caloric consumption and weight gain." https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29159583/

Chewing gum?
Watched YouTube where two people tested all sweetners taking 2 tbls sweetness equivalent first thing in the morning, one sweetner a day. They measured blood sugar and ketones before eating sweetner and then retested 30 minutes later to see if blood sugar was elevated (elevation of blood sugar will cause insulin secretion). These are keto people but results were identical between the two. SWEETNERS NOT EFFECTING Blood Sugar Monk Fruit Erythritol (caused bad GI symptoms) Stevia Allulose (bad GI symptoms) Sucralose (not Splenda which has additions) Aspertame BAD SWEETNERS (raised Xylitol (GI discomfort), used in gum Cane sugar Maltitol (used in Atkins bars, ONE bars)

Chewing gum?
Depends on artificial sweetner used in gum. Aspertame causes insulin reaction and will make you hungry. Chewing gum also produces a lot of saliva which you swallow. Early after surgery, you don't have room to spare. You need fluids and protein.

Day 2 Postop
I had VSG May 28. Sippy cup I bought was for age 12 months. Has a valve inside which requires sucking. But remove the valve you have just 3 small holes. See photo with white valve removed. When tipped up, you can barely suck and get no air with small sip. I marked ounces with sharpie on outside. I bought at Walmart but can also get on Amazon. I am adding Isopure ZERO unflavored. One scoop is 25g protein. I usually add half scoop to 8 oz warm Water. Don't add to hot or Protein Powder will lump.

Happy doctor dropped 3 meds postop
I had VSG three days ago. The big surprise was my doctor told me to quit taking 2 of my blood pressure meds and my statin on discharge instructions. Thrilled about that. Am taking my BP regularly to be sure it doesn't get high again. So already reaping benefits from my weight loss presurgery.

Mild sleep apnea [emoji19]
I have been on CPAP/BiPAP for 25 years. It is not uncomfortable. The modern masks are so much better. The mask is most important. If it isn't comfortable, you will hate it. I believe CPAP saved my life. But my OSA is very severe with AHI of 74. One of my sisters died suddenly at age 50. The only thing coroner could find was enlarged left ventricle likely from OSA. This enlargement likely caused a heart lethal arrhythmia. AHI of 5.5 is barely diagnostic. It could likely be worse on a second test or better. Did you have any REM sleep during study? REM sleep is when apnea is worse. If you didn't have any REM sleep, your AHI is probably higher than 5.5. Sleep studies monitor a single night's sleep which is likely not typical for you at all. AHI is like blood pressure. It varies alot depending on circumstances. And trying to sleep "normally" in strange bed with all those wires attached could have prevented much meaningful sleep.

Post Op
Postop Day 2: I was given Rx for chewable simethicone (GasX). Really got things rumbling and my belly doesn't feel like tight balloon this AM. Found heating pad helped a lot. Using baby sippy cup with suck valve removed. Really stops guzzling.

Day 2 Postop
I came home from hospital yesterday morning less than 24 hours since surgery. The remainder of the day was not good. Pain and gas. Felt like I was kicked in belly by a horse. Gas was mostly in belly and just felt like a tight balloon. I was given Rx for chewable simethecone (GasX). I finally started big rumbling farts. Used a heating pad which helped alot. I got in my Water but very little Protein. Had a great night's sleep. This morning feeling much better with a lot less gas pain. Having broth with unflavored Protein Powder (tastes like cream of chicken soup) and very soothing. Tried Jello at the hospital and it was sickening sweet. Couldn't eat it. I prepared some protein jello day before surgery but haven't given it a try. Goal today is to get in both protein and water. I've dropped 5 pounds since surgery 2 days ago. I haven't had any problems swallowing and been sipping like baby bird, tiny amounts. Found a baby sippy cup without the sucking valve removed helps with small sips.

Postop without narcotic pain meds
Many US doctors are being encouraged to not use narcotic meds in hospital or Rx to go home. Opioid addiction crisis is really bad in some states. My state monitors all controlled substances carefully and doctors can get in trouble with medical board of licensure if pattern of prescribing too often. If surgeons do send postop patient home with narcotic pain med, they are only allowed to give 3 day supply.
