That sounds like it went pretty well. I am hoping mine goes that easily. I’ve got the freeze sleeves for protein water, so I’m glad those are working well. Thank you so much for sharing! I hope your recovery continues to go well.

Since surgery I have low blood pressure, so any time I bend over, do yoga, get up from a seated/lying position I get dizzy and faint. I passed out gardening.
I wanna work in my garden, dammit! And now that I’m smaller and there’s less pudge in the way, I wanna do yoga! And planks, and all the things.
*kicks rocks, carefully and from a fully upright position to avoid passing out*

The beauty in this is that you don't owe anyone an explanation. Therefore if you do or don't have any preexisting health conditions isn't dialogue that you should have to go into with anyone. This type of badgering will definitely get you thar middle finger BadWolfGirl mentioned. You should be free to take a sabbatical during your trip and go have your surgery in peace, the only person who needs to know are the ones who've been entrusted with your care. I'm very clear about my boundaries being respected and my energy not being violated with negativity or unsolicited advice. Rene50 stay your course and follow your heart...💜

Waiting til the last minute to inform him sounds like the best course of action. Inform him by text of your procedure, that you're about to enter the operating room, and that you're turning your phone off.

Ugh that's hard! Just be firm and say it's your body, your health, and you made the decision.

I have told my friends and family (mostly so they understand why the whisky girl isn't drinking or cooking for everyone or hosting dinners) and though I am overweight and looking forward to not being so, my motivation was mostly health related as I have severe GERD, Barrets esophagus, and shitty esophageal stalsis. So it was either this or die young from esophageal cancer or one of the hundreds of other things that can be prevented by losing weight. Obesity is a health risk WITHOUT comorbidities and you are making the best choice you can to live a long healthy life. The very very minimal risk outweighs the alternative in my opinion.

I had to have a required therapist appointment and she gave me a way to spin things when someone said something I didn't agree with, whether positive (dude I look good now, so hush with your societal ideals on my weight bearing on my looks) or negative (people judging, offering their opinions).

    She said to say this:

"Thank you for the concern/compliment. I have had some health issues for a while now and had a medical procedure to help me get better. And one of the outcomes/side effects is weight loss. "

This way, you take back who YOU are. You are not your weight. You are a person trying to be healthy. Surgery is a tool. Not who you are.

And if they don't like that, there's always the middle finger. Lol

    Good luck, you got this!

I was thinking this morning too about something to look forward to instead of dreading the surgery and mine is to be able to sit on an airplane and be comfortable in my seat. Not have the seatbelt to tight or the armrest pressing into my sides. I’m going to Europe with my daughter April 1st for her senior trip and that is a long flight to be uncomfortable. I can’t wait!

This is the most random of random posts but this morning I was updating my profile and I saw my Audrey Hepburn quote.....

NEW GOAL- Me. As Audrey Hepburn. Halloween 2020. Can. Not. Wait. I would have never done that at 275#. Giving me something to look forward to instead of dreading this surgery.

You may now return to your regular posts. 🤪

That sounds awful to have to wake up that early. I won’t find out my surgery time until Monday, I hope it’s not too early. I am trying to prepare myself the best I can, but you’re right it seems surreal right now. Good luck on Tuesday! Can’t wait to hear how you are doing.

Like the both of you my surgery is Tuesday! I'm the first one of the day, so I gotta wake up at 4:30 for my last pre-surgery ensure, then I'm at the hospital at 6am. I can't believe that it's only 4 days away. Seems very surreal to me actually. I think the hardest part for me will be not being able to drink/eat at the same time as I ALWAYS drink a lot when I'm eating. I'm also a super fast eater so that will be something to get used to. Taking 20 mins to eat 2 oz of food? Weird. But I'm looking forward to it. I love love love food, but I've been fat all my life and I think being able to finally do things that I've never been able to do .... well I will love that even more. Best of luck to you both on Tuesday as well!

Thank you for this thread and the reassuring input everyone has given. My surgery is Tuesday and I have also been having "cold feet". It feels great to know that you're not alone and so many wonderful people have your back, even when there are others who don't. We can do this!

Hi all, I am now nearly 48 hours post op band to mini bypass. Band removal and bypass done at the same time. All has gone well. There was pain but it was well managed and tolerable. There was also a small bit of nausea. The first day I ate/drank nothing. The second day after bloods and X-ray, I was allowed Water. Today, the drain was removed (along with most of the pain) and I was given a tray with tea, Dutch crispbake with butter/jam and a yogurt. No issues with any of it.
My surgery was done by Dr. Chris DeBruyne in Belgium, I cannot recommend him and his team highly enough. Now, to learn to use my tool to the best advantage, I’m looking forward to it :)

Hi guys!!! I’m a little over 24 hours post op. This is my first surgery ever in my life. I went in really nervous woke up so fright and out of it that I regretted it because I couldn’t hold my crying baby. The pain was not in my incisions it was all over my body like I had gotten beat up. Drinking the 4 oz of Water with one oz being Protein. My hospital uses ensure protien max. They do NOT recommend the regular ensure. Only the low fat and carb protein max. I have to say it was rather tasty. And I don’t like protein drinks at all. The nausea patch behind your ear creates extreme dry mouth. I brushed my teeth often and it helped but didn’t go away. It’s starting to subside now. I had my surgery 01/14 at 6pm and was released home 01/15 at 3pm. So less than 24 hours. And I love being home!!!!!
If anyone has any questions I would love to answer them?

In addition to the ab binder and sippy cups, one of those gel ice packs from Walgreens or cvs-the large one that’s made for the back. Put it on your belly a couple times each day and it also helps reduce the swelling and bloating tremendously. Make sure the gasX is chewable or the small blue pill. The rapidmelts don’t really work. This vsg was the best decision I’ve ever made. I’m one week post op and almost all swelling and bloating is gone, thanks to the ab binder and ice pack. Without the ab binder scale was dropping one pound per day. With ab binder and ice pack, scale dropping 3 pounds each day, consistently. No need to be nervous. Just be prepared and you’ll have smooth sailing.

You may get lucky with the binder, I woke up from surgery with one on and got to take it home. I do wish I had a second to wear while I wash this one though so you're more prepared than I was! Best of luck!
