  1. This time of year is always the most challenging for everyone who is so watching their weight. That being said, I keep saying to myself, I can't have certain things right now, but I will again. The health benefits far out way the challenges. Next year you will be able to have all your favorite things again but have good health and awesome weight loss! Hang in there, you got this, have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family.
  2. Wow! You have already overcome some many life obstacles this should seem easy for you. Congrats on continuing your journey and best wishes in your new home!
  3. Hello Crystal! i am almost 6 weeks post op from the sleeve. It does get much better and easier. I remember sitting the hospital thinking what the F$&k did I do to myself! No real pain for but extreme nausea from the anesthesia. Everyone is different but it does get easier for everyone. Focus on each day at a time. Try not to overwhelm yourself and make sure you keep moving. It will really help in your healing
  4. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in January. It was actually really the final reason I opted for WLS. Anyway, most cases apnea gets better or even goes away post surgery. I was put on CPAP therapy right away. My sleep study showed I stopped breathing 62 times per hour. Yup more than once a minute! Essentially not getting any sleep at all. CPAP therapy has been miserable for me. The first three months I felt worse than before I started. 6 months in I started to feel better. Fast forward my surgery was October 15th. I wont lie I am anxious to get off the CPAP, but post surgery my apnea has gotten worse. I have started to breath through my mouth all of a sudden causing leaks and increasing my apnea episodes again. MY pulminologist is stumped and does not understand why. The CPAP machine is supposed to be intuitive but I think the air is set too high. He manually reduced the pressure and it worked for a few nights but is now the same problem. Has anyone else had this problem? My greatest hope for this surgery is to be off the CPAP. My next step up is a full face mask which I am dreading because I am claustrophobic of my mask as it is and I use the pillows now.

    Apnea worse post-op?

I am hoping your test results come back great! My nose is not stuffy at night at all. Prior to surgery my ResAir scores were almost always 100 apnea reduced to 1.5 events per hour. Every day since surgery my scores have reduced, leaks increased and events even higher than when I was first on the machine. It's crazy.

    Apnea worse post-op?

Yeah I would not be in any kind of rush to plunk down $3K on anything right now. Surgery bills are starting to come in lol!

    Apnea worse post-op?

I end up pulling my mask off after like 5 hours of non sleep. My husband says I sleep better with it off, but I know I need another sleep study. My mouth is like the Sahara it's awful! I have tried mouth pieces in the past and they haven't worked. This is is all weight related, it started as I gained the weight with my pregnancies.
  8. Thank you so much for sharing your journey! You have been through a lot. Best of luck with your upcoming surgery. 💚

    First signs of gallstones?

I had issues with my gallbladder after my first pregnancy. Just a few weeks after it kept feeling like I was throwing my back out. I chalked it up to shlepping the baby stroller etc. then I started to get violently I'll. I had ten atacks in ten weeks. Primary Dr at the time claimed it was acid reflux. Went to ER, (after Dr blew me off). After my 10th attack. I had a stone stuck in my bile duct and was in liver failure. Had a procedure to knock stone back into gallbladder, the next day they took it out. My pain would always start in my back travel under my rib cage make me violently toss everything in my stomach. It resembled a heart attack. The pain was worse than childbirth it was that severe and I would know, I had just given birth 10 weeks earlier.

Insurance & required 6 month period

I have BCBS NJ. I was not allowed to lose or gain any weight during my six month wait. My BMI was right at 40 and I had a slew of co-mortilities APNEA, BP, diabetes and more. But each insurance plan even with the same company is different. At my pre op class 3 of us had BCBS with a 6 month wait 1 woman had them and her consult was literally a week before and was approved for surgery.

    Texas BC/BS Insurance Timeline

BCBS New Jersey. I had a 6 month wait as well. At my consult we scheduled all classes, nutrition consults and tests right then. I started in April, they went for approval in September was supposed to have surgery Oct 1st, but health wise needed to be pushed back to the 15th. It seems like a long wait but it went quick. You should have no trouble scheduling for June/July.
  14. That's great! Congrats on your wonderful progress!

    Problem digesting meat?

You may want to try lunch meat. Lean turkey, chicken or even ham sliced real thin may be easier going down than larger pieces of meat.

    Peanuts and crackers??

Peanuts you may want to watch. Walmart has whole wheat saltines. They are pretty good. I had Campbell's chicken noodle soup. One can is like three meals but I did ok with that.

Not so easy to make friends here...

A bit of a roller coaster. I didn't expect to be so emotional. I need to stop weighing myself daily. My biggest struggle has been the drinking while eating I have always drank a lot not drinking while eating has been a huge adjustment for me. I constantly watch the clock.
  18. I have not been keeping a food journal . I am now moving into my modified foods diet and I want to keep track of my food intake. Does anyone use a food journal app they use they really like? I downloaded Bariastic but my dr does not participate so it's kind of useless. Any recommendations? Thanks!

    Pre-Op Roadblock- WWYD?

I have sleep apnea. My sleep specialist is a Pulminologist. His specialty is sleep disorders as opposed to asthma, copd, or allergies. I am on CPAP treatment. I got to he equipment first visit with Pulminologist after my sleep study. I was required to bring my machine to the hospital to use after my surgery. Your anesthesiologist needs to know because you will stop breathing during surgery. Call your insurance for information they after all should refer you where to go and they are the ones who ultimately approve the surgery. Best of luck!
  20. My doctor had my incorporate vitamin etc when I started full liquids day 4 for me. I take a multivitamin, 2400mg calcium, b12, d and Prilosec.

Not so easy to make friends here...

I am 4 Weeks post op. Just started on full modified foods. So far everything has been going pretty good. In a stall currently down 21lbs beginning to learn my new normal. I had a really bad time with anesthesia and was kept in the hospital an additional day. I was suprised to still be hungry. They say that should pass once more solid food is introduced.
