I agree with you - saying a surgeon that doesn't require it is bad is a bit of a stretch. I mean, my surgeon required me to lose 5% of my weight before surgery - that shrunk my liver enough that I didn't need the pre-op diet.

1 minute ago, FluffyChix said:Do not take Aleve!!!! Unless your doc says SPECIFICALLY you can have it! Aleve is an NSAID and most of us (RNY OR VSG) are told no NSAIDS forever. (I do know of some exceptions but they've been rare.)
My doc said get the sleeve if you want to take NSAID and I was sent home from surgery (!) with a script for ibuprofen and told to alternate with tylenol for pain. So it's kinda all over the place haha

So they seemed pretty happy with my progress. Told me to stick to 700 cals a day, 70-80 grams Protein and under 40 grams carbs. We will re-evaluate all that at my 3 month appt on Jan 22. They didn't seem too concerned that I can do 4 oz in a sitting without really needing to slow down. Some people seem to be able to do that at 6 weeks and some never get there so 🤷♂️
They said weightlifting will help me lose more weight vs cardio so I'm going to stick with that.

I have my 1 month follow up today - but it's closer to 6 weeks due to holidays and my doc being busy at the end of the year. I get to meet with the surgeon and my nutritionist. Still dealing with insurance and the billing department at the hospital. It's gonna be a chore I think and I know I'm gonna wind up paying a bunch.
So far I'm down 48 since surgery on 10/22. 279 this morning. Hope to be 277 by the end of the week so I can call if 50 total. Somehow I lost 6 pounds between 11/27 and 12/1 and I have no idea what I did to make that work! But for now I'm back to the lose a pound - wait two days at the exact same weight - then lose another pound. It's MUCH slower than I thought it would be at this point, I'm still so close to my surgery! As long as I'm under 250 by April for my Hawaii trip I'll be happy.
Joined a local gym today as well - working with a friend who is a personal trainer to get a workout plan. Going to lift 3 days a week and continue barre 2 days a week. Might give up on walking for a bit, at least during the winter.

Despite what anyone might tell you it boils down to two things: how much EXCESS weight you want to lose and complicating factors.
Sleeve loses around 60% excess weight while bypass is around 70%. These are general numbers - either one could do better or worse depending on the person and the surgeon. You will not guarantee more weight loss if you choose the bypass.
Complicating factors - If you have GERD or heartburn now just get the bypass. For me I didn't have that, I wanted the less invasive of the two and I have meds I have to take for life so the bypass was out.

They're saying if you change insurance you'll have to do the whole process over again. New insurance might not take info not done under them. All depends on their requirements.

Mine was 4 weeks post-op and due to holidays and such it'll actually be 6 weeks. 3 weeks shouldn't be bad.

Just now, Annasdad said:That weight spike was actually on day 6, and it has been steadily been going down. I’m down to 278.9 from 298.5 on the morning of surgery 11 days ago (today is day 12).
That's great! 21 pounds around 14 days is about where I was at as well. SW for me was 327.

23 minutes ago, Lbtnew said:thanks for the info, would we just list "gastric sleeve" on the Bracelet ? I'm thinking I can combine it with my current one instead of wearing 2. Can you please share where you ordered from ? I've only used medic alert but would like some options if you were pleased with your purchase
Yeah, this is my question - what needs to go on it!!

I mean, the surgery itself will be part of your deductible and it'll be well over $6700. You'd be spending that money to get to your deductible anyways if you went and got xrays or something.

I mean, not to be crass, but I see the pics on your profile and I see it! You look great! Might be body dysmorphia issues. I personally have the other issue - I see what I've lost and think I look great and don't see how I can lose another 70 pounds!

Same here and my NUT is great! I had a private consult and two classes before surgery and I've always been able to see her if needed. She's also part of what's supposed to be my 1 month post-op on Thursday (but is really 6 weeks).

10 hours ago, Losingit2018 said:Yes if your surgery doesn’t happen until January your deductible and oop start over. No matter when you are approved. Could you possibly get your surgeon to do it before Jan 1? May be worth a shot.
Yup, losingit2018 is right. Everything is all about procedure date, not approval date. Sorry.

My surgery is scheduled for jan 2020. I submitted if i am approved before my deductible reset will it count. Will i have to pay my deductible before i can have surgery? My deductible and OOP is $6700 i have $1034 left to pay before it is met but all of that will reset the new year im So Confused please help 🤦🏽♀️
Only your insurance can tell you but I would say no, it doesn't matter when you're submitted and approved you HAVE to have the surgery before your end of plan year. Mine was Oct 31st and I HAD to have my surgery before then since I had already met my OOP max.
Sorry, that's not what you were looking for I'm sure.

Interesting! I had one that they fixed in surgery. Glad they solved it, should be easy to take care of right?

Protein intake sounds good but you should be at 64 oz of Water at least. If you don't get that much then you'll start retaining water as you get dehydrated. Personally I was getting 96 oz a day by 2 weeks out.
And I'm just like you - I love data! I weigh myself at least a couple nights a week and every morning. I mean, its why we had the surgery right? Of course I wanna see how my changes day to day affect my weight!

No clue. We also don't have a pre-op liquid diet for 2 weeks and I was on my normal diet after 4 weeks post-op. Maybe my surgeon is just progressive? haha
