foodie669 got a reaction from shanshan in Food addict
Hello everyone I'm new here I'm supposed to be having gastric bypass surgery done soon but I don't know if i should. Because I am a food addict and I fear I will regain. Started looking into wls over a year ago n actually gain about 20lbs!!! Why do something if you're are going to fail right? I don't want to have my intestine rerouted to lose weight then gain it back like people on here. I need to loose a 100 pounds. Im over 230lbs scary
I need help.
I know I'm a food addict.

Yes I agree with you 100%. They (my team) know that i gain weight but they seem not to care much about it & saying its ok I'll do better after surgery. But what if i dont? One minute I feel like I'm ready & the next I'm like i can't do this. I do feel like I need more time honestly to work on me before making this step. Then again I don't want to put if off n gain more weight & develop any weight related issue.sigh.... -

Thank you for being open and that's exactly how I feel like I'm trying to eat everything before surgery things i plan not to eat or in small quantity. I've gain about 13 pounds since my initial visit. -

As someone else mentioned, I know my program only requires 1 visit with BH team.but they made it very clear during that visit that their door was open any time I was having difficulty and needed to talk. They also moderate our support group 2x a month and offer lots of tips and tricks there and get us to talk about the tough issues that get us here and how that can impact our success post op.
That said, you also don't need to feel that you need to rush the process. Due to work issues I had to delay the surgery by 4 months. I used that time to start making the big changes I will need later before surgery. I feel that I was more prepared because I took that time.

Hello! also from Australia, currently in a beautiful coastal town about 3 hours from Sydney, having my surgery done in Sydney, hopefully this year, waiting on a few logistical things to slot into place to know for sure!
Hope everyone's journey is going well!

I have several friends that were sleeved in Mexico without incident. If you want the surgery you are going to have to pay out of pocket with your BMI. My comment was meant to be helpful.
If you do your research you could end up pleased with your results.
You will be hard pressed to find any insurance here that will pay for your surgery with a BMI of less than 35.
Good luck to you though.

He and my nutritionist encouraged lifestyle changes, not weight loss Per se. Obviously with the changes came weight loss, but that wasn’t the main goal

Mine said I could if I wanted to, but it wasn't a big deal. I actually gained a little, whoops.

My dr understood my situation. If I could lose weight and keep it off I wouldn’t be needing the surgery! I had tried every diet, program, protocol, lifestyle change, etc for years. Now, my insurance wanted my weight monitored, and I was asked to adhere to a high Protein, low carb and low fat diet for the 90 days before surgery, and not gain weight.
Then only 7 days before surgery a Liquid Protein diet and 24 hours of no food before. Easy to do for I couldn’t wait for the chance at surgery!

I was told to lose 15 lbs, which I did, and then be on a liquid 2 days pre-op.

They did not mentioned loosing but they encourage to make lifestyle changes ahead of surgery. Their focus is more on getting my blood pressure down and physical activity which activity which I do anyway and eating healthier.
Good luck on your journey!

No, my BMI was barely 40 and I weighed 235 pounds, so there was no suggestion of losing weight before surgery.
-
foodie669 reacted to jazzyj13 in Did your surgeon want you to lose weight before you got surgery
Mine did not! My weight was about 257. I didn’t even have to go on a liquid diet pre op or anything

How bad the gas pains would hurt. I thought the surgery would be a breeze but the pain I was in was really bad
