  1. Has anyone experienced rib pain or discomfort?? Im 10 days post op and my left rib keeps feeling sore?? I go for my appointment on wed but i was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and has any advice?
  2. Hang in there...it gets better i promise...i had the knifing pains of gas for 10 days post op..and still sometimes have a few shooting pains in my shoulder STILL. I was banded on the 23rd. pepto might make you more constipaded...all i did was walk wallk and take my pain meds when i got unbearable. Get lots of rest and drink plenty of water. good luck!!
  3. I am 5 days post op and id LOVE to be able to go to the yogart shop and get the sugar free flavor of the day. My dr allows all the liquids including strainded cream soups and protein drinks, sf popcicles, jellow with sf whipped topping...do you guys think it would hurt to have a little sf yogart from the yogart shop? Just wondering?
  4. I have UHC and it took about 7 business days for the office to hear from my insurance :Dancing_biggrin: My pcp wrote a letter to go with the surgeons letter and my history. good luck i hope you get approved!!!
  5. yes....my best friend had the gastric bypass and she is now going to have the lapband. Its totally up to you ...if i only had 30 lbs to loose and i had already lost 25 i might think about trying to do it on my own. HOWEVER i know how hard it is to keep it off and the nice thing about the band is you can have it adjusted anytime so that you have restriction. With the bypass you cant do that!! Good luck with your decision,...i get banded on the 23rd :wink2:
  6. Yeah id like to know the differences too if anyone knows. Im having the lapband 1 week from today..YIKES..mine is 14cc??
  7. hmmm interesting...how are you doing with it and how long have you had it?
  8. I dont get it...how do we tune in to hear the show? is there a radio channel we tune into??
  9. muffingal....did the chocking sensation ever go away in your throat? We are all concerned about that??? let us know.

:blush:Tonight was my last supper too...lol...i get banded on the 23rd but my post op is on the 22nd. I have like 4 lbs to loose by next wed. YIKES....any tips? My dr requires a 5% weight loss before surgery. Im nervous of coarse but excited. However if i dont loose these last few lbs i will have to re schedule and i DONT want to do that.
  11. I just called my surgeons office to find out what size band i will be getting. I guess it holds 14cc?? I know nothing about bands or the sizes? Is this a normal one? lol i know it sounds funny but im just wondering. Ive been reading all this band size cc thing and im all confused. Isnt 14cc large? Someone please fill me in...lol..i just made a funny! no im serious though if someone could explain id love it. Thank you!
  12. I have my pre op on the 22nd and my surgery is on the 23rd  I too am very excited yet nervous. I cant wait though. I cant wait to be loosing and feeling wonderful about myself!!!!
  13. Right before and right after you have to be on liquids. My dr requires his patients to loose 5% of their weight before surgery to shrink the size of the liver to make it easier to see when they go in to place the band. After surgery it is impportant to be on liquids for two weeks to allow the stomach to get used to the band and heal. If you go right into eating solids or even mushies it could cause the band to slip or cause nausea and vomiting. The band is a "tool" to help restrict the "amound" of food you eat. You will be full faster and stay full longer if you go by the eating guidelines your dr gives you. Good luck and keep asking away!!!
  14. MUFFINGAL...please let me know how you are doing and what they are finding as the cause of this sensation in your throat. Im two weeks from being banded and gosh im soo worried that something like that will happen to me. Let us know if and how it gets better?
  15. Dont worry...have your Dr write a letter stating all your problems associated with your weight. Have him write why he thinks you are a candidate and how the surgery will help you. I did this and i got approved with no co morbidities. My bmi was right at 40. If you have co-morbidities it should be ok. It does help to have that supporting letter from both your dr and the surgeon though. good luck!!
  16. THAT IS AWESOME!!!! I am soo happy for you! How long have you been banded and how much weight have you lost? Im in California too, near Santa Barbara and i will be banded October 23rd. Im very excited.
  17. Its been "9" days!! You need to be way more patient with yourself. You arent even supposed to be on mush yet! 2 weeks liquid, a week or two or mush, then when your body is ready you move to solids slowly, introducing them a little at a time. I would say maybe after the first month you will be able to eat more normaly. Not right now. In time you should be able to eat the same foods only in very very small bites, chewing it into a paste. Give yourself lots of credit for doing this but be patient and know that in time you will be able to eat normal. good luck!!
  18. It all depends on how much weight you need to loose. The band is mainly for patients who need to loose 50-100lbs. If you have alot more than that to loose i might suggest the other. With the band you loose 1-2 lbs a week on average depending on your body and how well you stick to what you are supposed to eat in the different phases. With gastric bypass you loose much faster. I would stick to the band unless you are way more than a hundred lbs over weight and have alot of medical conditions due to your weight. Good luck! :tt1:
  19. Sounds like you have too much of a fill. I would try one of two things. Try to eat tiny portions. The size of an eraser on top of a pencil and chew at least 20 times. or have some of the fill taken out. If you throw up too much it can cause the band to slip and you dont want that!! good luck
  20. lololol thank you guys! I really needed that. every bit helps me. I love reading what you guys put!
  21. Hi...i just got word from the insurance that my surgery was approved. I was excited and shocked at the same time. I honestly didnt think they would approve me and so i was prepaired for the worst! When i got the news i didnt know whether to scream with excitement or cry.? :/ I am 5'3.5 and now 220 lbs. I have battled my weight all my life and i would love a tool to help me take it off and keep it off. I know im not extremely overweight but im sick of being a size 18 and would love to go pull a 12 off the shelf. I dont have any co-morbidities but i do have gerd, pre arthritis, and lower back pain constantly. My only concern with this is that im going to regret the decision im making. Even though this is a reversable procedure, its still pretty perminant and a big decision. Pleas help ease my mind or give any imput or concerns. Id love to hear them all from anyone out there.:tongue2:
  22. That is too funny!! I get banded on the 23rd of this month and i already feel like i am an emotional rollercoaster!! The moment i found out the insurance approved me i was going omg its REAL now! Ive cried a couple times, hoping this is the right decision im making. Im just really scared, kinda confused and nervous about the whole thing yet excited at the same time.
  23. shortgal what state are you from? not that it matters i was just wondering
  24. Thank you guys!!! I really appreciate all the info. I think what is going to help alot is the letter from my pcp. He stated all my problems associated with being morbidly obese and how he recommends this surgery for me. I dont know if i have a chance but i will fight to the end if i have to. especially since they said on the phone twice that i dont have to have that five year history!!!
