I’m new here but I’ve been lurking since May. My date of surgery is August 28th. I’m so excited and scared at the same time. I feel as though a major part of myself is about to die. I’m now tryna focus on how to fill that void. As for pre-op, I definitely struggled in the beginning but so far everything is going smoothly. I send you all my prayers and may we all have a speedy/easy recovery.

8/27 ladies, best of luck and speedy recovery! I wish I was close. I'm 2 months away as of tomorrow. I made my appointment in June and finally had my first doc visit the end of July and surgery on 10/28. I'm so happy for you all, keep us posted how you're doing!

If you want those circles at the beginning of the workout to have WAY more impact, don't point your hands out, point them up. (Straight arms, hands pointed 90 degrees up)

I'm not trying to increase my calorie intakein trying to get the 64g of Protein in a day that the Dr told me to. I'm doing 30-45 mins of cardio a day plus about 5 days of weight training just to keep lean muscle and I only asked ffora personal trainer for one time for 1 hour to Shiite me how to use some of the equipment and have good stance so I wouldn't hurt my bank which isn't at all what he did! He had me doing a bunch of stuff I told him wasn't what I was looking for. No I'll never go see him again. Just trying to ease into the weight lifting stuff and I think he was just kind of an ass. I go to the gym a couple times a day because I like to start the day off with a little cardio and mid day or evening I like to go back and lift or get in the pool and aqua job. No one is making me. I'm looking for things to do that I enjoy and don't revolve around food. I have a 3 yo and I can bring her with and drop her at the daycare or she can come swimming our whatever. It's just a place that I feel really good about myself at and can beingmy kid.

I checked off another requirement today!! Woot! I had an endoscopy today with my surgeon. It was rather easy but as the day has gone on my throat is getting more and more sore. Drinking lots of COLD H2O is helping.

I also spoke to my patient advocate who let me know that we are a go for Dec 2019 (that’s month 6 so I was scared we wouldn’t get it in- it trying to rush the process but want to make the most of the whole “deductible” thing) Woot! I am to call in November to get a date but it’s starting to feel real!!

Anyone else get giddy when they check off something on the pre-op list or am I just being a nerd? Soo ready for this to be behind me!!

BetterBelizeIt reacted to ThreeOhThree in Sleeve To Bypass after only 10 weeks. Surgery Date 9/5/2019
😕So during my sleeve surgery 6/27/2019 my doctor found a small tumor. It was cancerous and very active. It did not show up on any pre op work, he was literally in the right place at the right time. These past few weeks on top of healing from surgery I have been seeing an oncologist. My doctors worked together with me and decided that going to a gastric bypass and bypassing the part of my pouch that is cancerous is safer than putting me on powerful cancer targeting medicine that I would have to take for the next 3 years, Gleevec. The oncologist told me that my case was about 1 in 1000. Normally people come to him with a huge tumor that is beginning to spread cancer and at that point they have a gastrectomy. My surgeon has also never experienced this where a tumor did not show up on preop but he is against messing with the sleeve at all and would just rather cut all that part out if that makes sense. He said he has seen where making the sleeve smaller leads to more complications vs doing a sleeve to bypass. I flat out asked him if I was being punked.
I have not had any major complications from my sleeve, I did have to go to the ER almost at the 6 week mark for sharp pains (turns out I ate tuna too fast). They did a barium swallow and everything looked great with the sleeve no leaks or anything.

I regretted my surgery in the first week and I am a little nervous about having surgery again but I’m also glad they found this. If I had chickened out before having the surgery or dropped out of my doctors program like I had done in the past, I would never have known about this tumor growing. I’m feeling a bit meh and blah about it all just thinking about the liquid diet I will have to do all over again 😂 but I’m also trying to remain positive. This site helps a lot so thank you all for your updates, the t.m.i. (Looking at you poop threads,we all need you) , the highs and lows etc. My surgery date is 9/5/2019.

I have an IUD so prior to surgery I didn’t have a period. Two days after I had surgery I got one and it lasted for two weeks. After that it’s been pretty sporadic on when it will come and how often it will last. My GYN said that the medicine is stored in your fat cells so as they shrink it will leave your body so that the only medicine in my body is coming straight from the IUD. Add in the change of hormones an she said it will take my body a little while to settle back to what it was prior. I didn’t really notice the period cramps when it happened right after surgery but mine normally weren’t to bad before.

My English isn't good if you don't understand anything tell me and I rephrase it

The hardest part was at the beginning to learn when to stop eating, because with less of 1 oz of food I was full and vomit if I eat a little more. The easiest is to buy clothes now🤣🤣🤣🤣. Well I think is not easiest part, but when you start to feel better, physically, your self esteem. My pre diabetes and my high blood pressure dissapeared, you feel better.

I think people treat me the same, some think I make a good decision, others I feel are waiting me to fail. But I hope to have enough discipline to keep doing it well.

    You have your surgery done?

I decided to share my story with you all. I'm a sudden cardiac arrest ( also known as sudden cardiac death) survivor. I was at work on October 30th 2015 when I was stricken. I was clinically dead for over 5 minutes. I was revived with the use of an AED (automated external defibrillator). I also suffered from mild cognitive impairment, kidney failure and laryngeal edema (swelling of the larynx) which was so severe an emergency tracheostomy was performed on me. I spent 30 days in the hospital with majority of them in ICU. The total survival rate from sudden cardiac arrest which kills 17 million people every year worldwide is only 1%. I am a walking and talking miracle and thank God everyday for my miracle. I was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy ( severe thickening of the lower left ventricle in my heart) which was the cause of my cardiac arrest and had an ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) surgically implanted in my chest to shock my heart back into rhythm if my heartbeat becomes irregular. I have been advised by my cardiologist not to engage any strenuous exercises due to my enlarged heart. I've been obese since my late 20's (I'm 51 now) and decided to have WLS after years of failed diets and exercise, I decided to take control of my health once and for all. I had RNY surgery on April 11th and to this date, I am 93 lbs. down with in just a little under 5 months with 50 lbs. to go until I reach my goal weight and I feel great! I accomplished my current progress without exercise due to my restrictions. Follow your post-op meal plan closely and with time, you will see and feel the weight coming off. I just want let you all know, if your journey is slow and your faith is low, I want you to keep your head up! Just remember this, you did not become obese overnight, it took time and it will take time for the weight to come off. I'm sorry for taking up your time but I just felt compelled to tell you my story since we're all brothers and sisters in this journey.

Its hard to believe that this kind of surgery has been around this long already. Yes I had this done 45 years ago in Traverse City at Munson Hospital.

Back then it was an open surgery they staple the stomach and create a small pouch then it is bypassed to the jejunum. While they were doing this surgery back then all the organs were removed and cleaned out. You stayed in the hospital for 2 weeks or so, much different then how it is done now adays.
I have maintained the weight loss over the years, however, there was a few years when I had put on up to 40 pounds and just started slowly getting it back off once I realized what I was doing.

My surgery is Sept 9th and I’m so scared! Like I’m very excited to start this new beginning in my life but I’m also scared of dying and complications. I’ve never had surgery before. And yes I’m a little dramatic. Did anyone else have this problem? So super scared.
