I'm almost 60. I spent 40 years trying to diet and exercise it away. It never worked for me. I'd lose 40 or 50 or even 60 pounds, and it'd come right back on. Again and again and again. My only regret is that I didn't have this done several years ago.

So, I'm 23 and set to have RNY on May 30th. I've never second guessed my decision for a moment, but for my family and close friends that I have told, they seem to equate youth with the ability to just diet and exercise to combat obesity (trust me...been there, done that)--stating, "But, like...have you tried just eating healthy and exercising? You're not even 25, and this is like major and a lifelong commitment."
I'm sure many of you, no matter the age, have experienced this. I guess I wish the stigma was better for all of us. For anyone that is under 30, do you feel similarly?

So, this guy is probably out of jail by now. Lost his license. A registered sex offender.
As it is with cases like this (I have a long history of childhood sexual abuse, including a miscarriage at age 12), the victims' lives are affected forever. Yes, I had many years of therapy including support groups. Yes, I know the shame and blame is with the perpetrators, but that fact doesn't always sink in during intrusive flashbacks or other times of emotional distress. PTSD doesn't just disappear the day the molester is released from prison.

Of course, not all surgeons are sex offenders. Its old, but a good reminder that sex offenders can be people we see as trustworthy,

His name is Arie Oren and this is very old news. It happened back in 2011. The judge sentenced the 66-year-old doctor to 4Β½ to 9 years behind bars in 2013. He's a sick sick person and I'm glad justice was served. I feel really bad for the 5 women he molested.

Most people don’t know I have had WLS. When I tell them I exercise 5-6 times a week, they say β€œdon’t hurt yourself”, that’s fanatical. I literally went from not being able to walk up a flight of stairs to running close to 5 miles. It seems that most people are not used to change. Maybe it’s because they don’t have the power to change so when they see somebody do things to better themselves they react in an awkward manner.

Because every time you turn on your TV some movie star or other famous person is announcing " I have cancer of the_____but I am going to fight it all the way!" Seldom do they announce " I'm going to sit in my recliner, put my feet up, watch reruns and Wait for the Death Angel to show up!" So the average person sees you suddenly looking thinner, and it's "OMG are you dying? "Well technically we all are from the day we are born but an intentional weight loss is not a bad- type thing at all. I am happy I am losing weight, its just the freaky fact I have started looking like dead relatives and I hardly recognize myself in the mirror any more. Even Tomkitten my son remarked on it "Gee Mama I never realized you looked like Aunt Grace!" Probably because she never was obese like me! Hey a Happy Journaling Victory, I have broken the 40 BMI barrier so well on my way to being merely obese instead of the Dreaded Morbid Obesity notation. What a lovely thing, not to have that cited as a reason for every doctor visit. Sometimes I'd like to hand him. a printout of the encounter " Physician still smart -aleck, never weighed more than 150 pounds in lifetime!" bet I could find a billing code to fit that! Once put on Tomkittens" Erythema of Nose" that was because he had a slight sunburn, would you have put in a billing code for a red nose? Well he sure did, wonder what he would say about Rudolph the Red-nosed reindeer? Probably say it was seasonal!

Gosh, I was just talking about this today! If one more person tells me I'm getting too thin, I'll scream! I agree with you, when I was heavy no one said anything about my weight. Even when I had constant back and knee pain. Now I'm exercising daily without pain and I'm losing too much weight. Really!!

I am one year post VSG & achieved my goal and then some. It has been a remarkable transformation. I have to rant about how some people, especially family members react to weight loss. I cannot tell you how many times, most recently, someone has asked me "what's wrong with you?", why are you so skinny, or are you sick? Or "I think you should gain some weight".
Where were these people when I was close to 300 lbs, unhealthy, pre-diabetic, depressed and spiraling into an early death? They kept their opinions to themselves. No ones, said, you don't need to drink that extra soda, or eat that cheeseburger, so why do people act like weight loss is because I am sick? Can't I just want to be healthy? Rant over.

I am so sorry you are going through this situation with your surgeon. Many of the issues i read about are due to lack of pre-op education from our providers, and it sound like that is what is happening here. The symptoms you are describing are not uncommon in the weeks post-op.
Dont stress too much over hydration and Protein. You will make yourself crazy. You need to get in as much as you physically can get in and know that as the days and weeks progress, you will be able to tolerate more.
By the way, that day you felt like something was stuck in your chest...I have been there, as im sure many of the others in this board have. Just a reminder to take smaller bites and be very selective about what we eat. What stage of the diet are you on. At one month, i was only on pureed foods.
Best of luck to you, and as cliche as it may be... it will bet better.

When I visited a friend I hadn't seen in awhile she gasped and asked what happened, then went on to exclaim "I want the old (rs) back!" Her comment totally caught me off guard. I spent the evening proving to her that I was the same person as before. Things are fine between us. I hadn't told her beforehand that I'd lost weight so her reaction was understandably from pure shock.

I don't know if it's a jealously thing but I think people meet you at a certain size, hair a certain color or length, married or single etc and if then don't see you for a long time or you had a sudden change it seems "wrong". I have felt that way seeing a once married friend and the next time I saw her she was dating a new person, lost weight, had a hair cut. It was a shock to her as someone different than I was used to.

Yeah hon. Competition and jealousy do strange things to peeps. She's also looking at your through her obese filter of you. So any loss looks "small" to her on you. Go for where you WANT to be in your heart of hearts. I think 125 is a great place for you.

A thread for us to share our daily menus!
To help keep things in perspective for everyone, let's try to note our height & weight (or BMI), gender, weight-status & how far out we are post-op (unless this is already stated in your side profile )
Post as little or as much info as you want. If you track macros, feel free to share your Protein, fat, & carb details...if all you feel like saying is you had a really yummy taco, that's cool too.
EDIT: Anyone can play! VSG, RNY, DS, etc... β™₯️

Believe it or not, my doctor didn't give me a goal. I set it myself. We discussed it, but ultimately he left it up to me.
My ideal weight is supposed to be 150-155, but I have never been able to maintain that weight. I have old photos of myself at or near that weight and to me, I think I was just a little too thin. So, I set my own goal at 175 which is still in a "normal" BMI range but I thought more reasonable to achieve and maintain.

    Hi Frustr!
I had a transoral bariatric surgery in 2009 that wasn't approved by FDA, as it was not working as they thought it would. I lost 100 lbs on my own! Working out and cutting out all the fried food i used to love and working out 6x a week. I was taking about 30k steps per day. Walking everywhere all the time. I maintained my weight loss for about 6 years....began fertility treatment which contribute to lots of weight gain, became pregnant and have struggled since, gained back almost all of my weight. HW 291=8, lowest 162, currently 250. Stopped working out, which doesn't help.
i am doing revision to a surgery that gave me zero restriction. I am currently debating on going back to my original surgeon or a new one. I have a scheduled appointment with a new surgeon for consultation. Very excited to see him. Hope that helps!

my surgeon suggest i do the bypass and i suggested he takes my suggestion of DS lol, which he agreed lol. The second surgeon is well known for DS and SIPS, so I am certain he will agree as well.
