  1. It all comes down to insurance. Each company has there own requirements. Some overlap, some don't. I had 90 day medically supervised "weight loss." I didn't have to lose weight though, just couldn't gain any weight. Had to have psychological evaluation as well. Also had EGD and ultrasound of fall bladder to check for stones. Those two were surgeon's requirements not insurance. Got approved in about 5 business days.
  2. There is a thread for this already. I found it very motivating to see the transformation that is possible.
  3. I am having VSG with Dr de la Torre on Jan 16. I just started my 1 week liquid diet. I found this at Walmart and they are delicious, but won't be able to have them after surgery for a while because they contain caffeine. Cafe Latte
  4. My surgeon says death is a possible complication, but the odds are 1 in 1000. He said that with a straight face even. ?
  5. Clean sheets are nice, but my surgeon and for previous surgeries it is recommended to minimize germs. I have to shower and wash with antibacterial soap, hibiclens, the night before and morning of and use clean towels after each shower. Hibiclens is what they use to wash their hands prior to surgery. They are trying to minimize the risk of infection from what I understand. I am doing whatever my surgeon recommends as they are the experts.
  6. I have a bit of over hang and have some of the same issues. I have gotten some prescription powder, Nystatin topical powder, as doctor said I had yeast infection. If you can get to your doctor and have them document your skin issues. If you ever consider plastic surgery to remove excess skin insurance may cover part of it if you can show it is medically necessary. If doctor isn't an option I have used diaper rash cream and when rash healed I used Gold Bond powder.
  7. I agree with above posters. Why lie, if someone asks just say, "I had surgery," and leave it at that. If someone asks for details just stand there staring at them and say nothing. They will become uncomfortable and either change the subject or walk away. Put the onus on them for invading your privacy. If the have a decent sense of humor you could tell them that you cannot discuss it due to HIPAA privacy laws ?
  8. Just had my pre-op clearance appointment with my surgeons nurse practitioner and everything is set for my surgery on January 16th. Nothing to do now but wait.
  9. Ask if your surgeon can use exparel. It is injected at the incision sites and does a great job in reducing pain after surgery. Just something to ask when you meet with them. Don't be afraid to let them know you have low threshold for pain. They will ask you on scale of 1 to 10 what your comfort level is that you can tolerate before you need pain med. For me that is a 4, but if for you that if it is lower then tell them that. If offered pain med take it! Don't wait until you need it as that will be too late because you will have to wait for it to kick in. Don't chase pain, stay ahead of it! At least until you have healed for a bit and are feeling comfortable.
  10. I have used this for laparoscopic surgery I had December 2018 and seemed to work well. Cica soft silicone tape
  11. What is the reason you cannot get put to walk? Weather, medical reasons, cannot afford a gym membership? If you can get out, go to a big box store or any store for that matter and grab a shopping and start walking there. If you cannot get out due to medical reasons, then there are a lot of chair exercise videos out there as others have suggested above.
  12. I am fond of New Balance as well. You can get a good pair for $60-$100. Check out Joe's New Balance outlet site. You can find some good deals there. joesnewbalanceoutlet.com
  13. Did you doctor use exparel on the incisions? I had that for colon surgery and my incisions were numb for a week thank god.
  14. I have only tried Genepro, but it seems to work well in my recipes that I have tried. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K6OSDYA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  15. Here is a good article on complete plant based proteins sources. You need to make sure your protein sources have all the essential amino acids. https://www.prevention.com/food-nutrition/healthy-eating/g26895324/complete-protein-foods-list/
  16. Have you tried an egg based protein? I haven't tried any, so I don't have any to recommend. Amazon has a lot to choose from though.
  17. I am having surgery on January 16. Dr Roger de la Torre is my surgeon. Going to have vsg.
  18. You need to see a urologist. I have kidney stones and have passed small one with no issues. I had a large one, 8 mm. It caused nausea, vomiting and intense localized pain. Hydrocodone worked for the pain and zofran for nausea. Good thing is once it leaves the kidney there should be little to no pain, unless it causes a blockage. More than likely you will have a CT scan or X-ray. I had to do a 24 hour urine test where you pee in a jug to catch your urine for 24 hours to be analyzed to see what is causing the stones and adjust your diet from there. One thing is to add 4 0z of lemon juice to water during the day. Citrate in lemon juice will help prevent formation of stones. But lemon juice is not a substitute for a good urologist.
  19. Greek yogurt would make a great pre or post-workout snack. Has protein and carbs to keep you going.
  20. Here is a good article explaining the difference between broth, stock and bone broth. It relates to cooking, pretty much says the are close to being the same with the difference being cooking time.
