Hi! I'm the same height as you and about the same weight so your weight loss numbers look very promising to me!! I can't wait to be half as small and twice as happy--thanks for sharing your success and congrats on your new life!

Really....I think I could live without ice cream, I love it but haven't had any for over a year due to diabetes. In fact, I think I could give up alot of things, I'm tired of my life revolving around what I'm going to eat next.
  3. Thanks

    IKR? LOL.
And I laugh every day on my way to the bank in my skinny new healthy body with all my teeth, my new hair re-growth, pain pill free, with very minor chronic side effects from this surgery and supplementation schedule.
I know you do too! And btw, you helped turn me on to the need to do more research about adding K2! TY hon!

    Crazy? *scratches head*
Celebrate Multi Capsules serving size is 3 capsules
Celebrate calcium citrate serving size is 6-7 tablets to give 1200-1500mg cal cit per day
Bifera Iron is for 8-18mg per day by my doc and ASMBS dependent on menopause status
B Complex 50 is because I'm low in B1 and B6 without it (very common in RNY pts)
B12 per my doc and ASMBS is 500mcg every day
Vitamin D3 2000iu per my doc cuz I'm low in D and have had BC and thyroid disease
Magnesium Citrate 400mg is so I can poop post RNY
Vitamin K2 is cuz I want my Calcium to go to my bones not my arteries or vessels.
You can do what you want with your health. LOL. But I've been around here and other places long enough to witness the carnage that comes from people being blase about their vitamin and mineral routine. Ultimately I am a super-follower of my doc's orders and plans for me that are based on solid lab testing every 6 months.

I will tell you this. I have taken the same multi Vitamin since the start and they just pulled me off of it. I have had increased nausea and even taking it with food and at night I have woke up in the middle of the night and needed Zofran. My point being don’t buy 90 day supplies of anything until you know you tolerate it.

I was told to not take gummies.

    I take:
2 Centrum Silver tablets (or the generic equivalent)
2000 mg calcium citrate (I take more than other RNY patients because I have osteoporosis)
    1 Vitamin B complex
sublingual B12 (I take a megadose every other week)
carbonyl Iron (with Vitamin C tablets)

it's pretty easy once you get into the routine.
there's not much you can do to prevent Hair loss. If you're gonna lose it, you're gonna lose it. You'll likely be the only one who'll notice, and it'll grow back. I hardly lost any. I just noticed extra strands in my comb when I combed my hair out after washing it. If it weren't for that, I never would have noticed, so there's no way anyone else did, either. Just keep on top of Protein and Vitamins so the hair loss is not any worse that it would have been otherwise.

I have been taking gummy vitamins, I researched which ones I thought were best and ordered them ahead from vitacost.com I have shopped there for years and filled my cart and waited for them to send me a coupon before I ordered. They seem to be keeping my labs good, I’m not sure Vitamins can totally stop Hair loss but they do help overall. I can’t speak for energy but these vitamins do work for me. I spread them out throughout the day.
This is my list (one month supply)
    1. Garden of life my kind organics women’s multi 40 plus Whole food gummies, organic berry 120 Gummy drops
four per day (2 in the morning and 2 in the evening)
    2. Natures way hair skin and nails with collagen strawberry 60 gummies
two per day one morning one evening
    3. Natures way alive clacium plus d3 cherry strawberry, 60 gummies
two per day one morning one evening
    4. Hero nutritionals slice of life Omega 3 and chia seed, adult gummy vitamins, Cran orange 60 gummies-
Three gummies i take mid day. Though I take two and supplement with another fish oil gummy I got in target so the bottle lasts the month.
    5. Ollie probiotic gummy 1 in the morning. I got in target to see if it helps my gut (so far not really)
    6. I’m including b-complex on the list, it’s a good Vitamin but I stopped taking it since it wasn’t helping me. And I get enough from my multi. You might benefit from it though. And they aren’t expensive.
Natures way Alive B complex gummies, 60 gummies
two gummies, one in the am, one mid day
    7. I also take a natural heartburn chewable, natures plus nature sec natural peppermint 90 chewable
You might also benefit from coenzyme q10. Hyaluronic acid. Prebiotic Fiber.
A lot of people take bariatric vitamins but they contain added iodine and since I’m allergic I had to find a Multivitamin that didn’t have it. Any vitamin that is Whole Foods based will be utilized better by your body.
I attached a screen shot of some of the vitamins. I rely on getting coupons since I’m on a tight disability budget.
Best of luck to you on your journey!

  11. Thanks
mlmx1138 reacted to NYJenn in What is the best/worst thing....
Best: being healthy, happy and in a good place mentally (no more depression meds)
Worst: it’s not a cake walk. It takes work. I run, I workout with a trainer, I take my vitamins/supplements, i measure/weigh my food....surgery is not a “fix” It’s a tool. You can sabotage it if you choose to. You have to make yourself accountable

mlmx1138 reacted to froufrou in Revision after failed sleeve surgery
I have had the sleeve and the RNY. My sleeve failed - for one I had a leak, so was in hospital for 3 months... they tried to place several stents and think they probably stretched things out. Upper GI confirmed my stomach was stretched. So, I have the RNY now. It is a slow process - apparently weight loss is slower with a revision, but I am happy. I woke up from the sleeve hungry and that hunger did not go away. I woke from RNY and I was not hungry and I still find I have minimal hunger. I still have demons that drive me to want to eat that I am working on, but the restriction I have from RNY helps me a LOT. I hope this helps.

I've had both. The sleeve didn't work out for me for various reasons, so went to RNY. I didn't do RNY initially because I thought it was so 'final'. It's not... I can still eat foods I like, but for ME the difference between sleeve and RNY is huge. I woke up from my sleeve surgery hungry and it didn't go away. RNY took my hunger away.

I never thought getting 80% of your stomach removed and thrown in the trash any less invasive, although many people seem to think that. As for the bypass, it's been done for years and years and they have lots of longitudinal data on it. Techniques have improved substantially over the years to get around some of the issues they used to have. There are more complication risks than with the sleeve - but not by much. And as with the sleeve, most are minor. Other than a stricture, which happens to about 5% of bypass patients (making it one of the most common complications, I might add - although I'm not sure I'd consider something that happened to 5% of people "common"), I've never had any problems. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

And yes, type 2 diabetics tend to fare better with it. As for substantial weight loss, there are people who have had enormous success with both surgeries - but you get a bit more of a tail wind with the bypass due to the malabsorption the first 1-2 years (malabsorption of calories eventually stops - but malabsorption of Vitamins does not - you have to supplement for the rest of your life. Of course, they're now requiring that of sleeve patients, too)

I had GERD pre-surgery so it was a no brainer for me. But I would have leaned toward the bypass regardless because it's been around longer. At the time I had surgery, VSG was just becoming popular, and I had a fear of it being "Lapband II". It's proven itself since then (as in, it's not "Lapband II"), but I still have no regrets that I went with the bypass.

Totally agree. Only thing I can’t eat are greasy foods and I’m thankful to not be able to enjoy them. I did accidentally eat yogurt with more sugar than I should have had and felt awful from that as well. bread? No biggie. Bites of cracker or chips, etc are the same. It’s a choice, but it’s easier for me to choose wisely now.

    Congrats on your appointment Maureen!

I'm 3 months post op & I don't think there's anything I can't eat. I haven't tried bread, other than low carb wraps & those are absolutely fine.

Honesty I went into this thinking I was giving up like, idk all sorts of things. I really thought, I'd never be able to eat them again. And even 3 months out I'm realizing that's not going to be true for me. Nothing has made me sick. This has all been super smooth sailing for me. That said, it means it's really up to me to say NO to all sorts of things. If that makes any sense? Like I sorta thought if I ate sugar or something, I'd be horribly sick like many of the members of this site. I haven't tested sugar much, but I had a tablespoon or two of creme brûlée at one point, I was fine. I've had halo top a couple times, I was fine.

So far, I've had chicken, steak, ground beef, turkey sausage. All has been absolutely fine.

Oh pizza! I have had pizza since surgery. Probably 10 weeks post op? I had a serving about the size of a slice of bread & I was fine. Is it something I'm purposely eating on a regular basis, no. I was at a thing & that was what was served.

I haven't had alcohol or soda since surgery. Neither of them means anything to me so it's no hardship on me not to have them.

I drink a lot of coffee & my doctor is fine with it. I also use straws - he's fine with that as well. You'll find a lot of varying opinions about that here.

All in all, I feel exactly the same as I did before - in a good way. I don't really feel like much has changed for me except my stomach is much smaller & I eat much less. It's still up to me to make smart choices, but it's MUCH easier for me to do that with a stomach this small.

it's supposedly pretty easy to manage. It usually happens when they eat too much sugar at one sitting, so if you limit (or avoid) sugar, you shouldn't dump.

I choose to no longer eat rice ... don't have steamed rice, fried rice, etc.
I avoid pretty much all crumbed and battered foods and most deep fried.
I enjoy chips/fries but only four to six at a time with a meal these days. Too many empty calories.

I’ve got the Iron sleeve too - nothing bothers it based on ingredients, but I have to pay attention to quantity. Some foods I can eat quite a lot of without problem - others I can have a few bites and that’s it, I’m done. I don’t have dumping syndrome that I know of?
Most important is paying attention to how you’re feeling as you’re eating, and tracking any negative/full sensations. Like fries - I can eat them, it won’t make me sick, but I eat ten and I am done for the entire meal. Meanwhile if I start with the burger, I can eat the majority of that without feeling full. If you measured mass I’m sure I’m eating way more burger than fries, but for some reason the fries fill me up.
As a rule, anything sugary or fatty will fill me way faster than an equivalent mass of protein/carb/whatever. It’s actually been really convenient since I have a couple spoons of ice cream and I am genuinely done. The trick is not eating through the full feeling, or artificially spacing the food out to ensure you can eat more of it.
