UPDATE I'm actually wearing my suit in public. I was embarrassed the first couple of times but now, I'm good. If anyone wants to silently judge my body from afar, they can go for it. I know what it's been through and I know what it can do. That's all the confidence I need. Have an amazing summer! We ALL deserve it no matter what our bodies look like 🤗

Any way here are my swim suits for this season. No bikinis. Just not my style. I love the black one but my butt squooshes out. Probably not noticeable to anyone but me though.

In an effort to embrace reality and with a healthy dose of encouragement from “Shrill”, I decided I’m wearing a bikini this summer. stretch marks, scars, loose skin and all. All of these bathing suits are at Target. I bought the red one in a smaller size.
STATS: I’m 202lbs. I’m 7 months post gastric bypass and I’ve lost 119 lbs. My goal weight is 145. Yes, I plan to have plastic surgery down the road but that won’t fix my brain so I’ve been working on that for now.
Don’t leave me hanging -- PLEASE POST YOUR BATHING SUIT OPTIONS FOR SUMMER!

My surgery was goi g to be the gastric bypass and I went to my psychiatric doctor and told them I couldn't take extended release. So she put in for my medication in the non extended release and I need to take the brand name of this medication or I get terribly ill. I got a call from the pharmacy telling me that they no longer make the brand name in the non extended release. Other doctors try to change my meds ... it has never gone well for me. I usually found a new doctor who was in the mind set of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mode. Now I am going in to get a reconsult for the Sleeve. Make sure everything is good with your meds that you need, that if you will need to be a different medication do to the surgery to make sure you react to that medication without any issues. The first time someone tried to switch my mental health medication I could not tell my dreams from reality. I went to a bank got a loan for a new car and traded in my old car and got a brand new vehicle. My husband came home and asked "honey why is there a new car in the driveway" and I responded with "what are you talking about". If the car wasn't in the driveway I would never have believed it. The dr said it was a drug induced psychosis and I was lucky that all I did was buy a car. Which I have to admit I got a really good deal on that car. I agree if your mind is out of sorts you won't be able to enjoy the benefit of the surgery. Think holistically body, mind, and soul!

Like Mikeyy says get a second opinion as well. If you have to wait an extra month or two though what's really the big deal? I was originally scheduled got July 16th but insurance denied me because I had not quit smoking got 6 months. In understand my circumstance is way different then yours and I am not trying to compare ours. Only thing that is similar is I had to reschedule my surgery. I got it rescheduled for September 17th. On the bright side though it gave me an extra 2 months of reading and educating myself on head work and do's and don't's. It worked out better for me and now I'm going into this life changing surgery with even more research and education behind me. I hope this helps. I wish you luck and wish I could give more solid advice.

Nay143 reacted to ace090 in Will I be able to train muay Thai after gastric sleeve surgery?
Hi everyone, I've always wanted to train muay Thai and learn the art of Muay Thai kick boxing. I've tried to train in the past, but due to my weight I was finding it hard to keep up with the class and had to always take a break and go stand outside to recover my breathe and cool down, anyway long story short I got discouraged and stopped.
Now here's what I want to know. Once I start to lose a significant amount of weight and get my cardio health up, would I be able to train muay Thai again? Or am I asking for trouble in wanting to go down that route?

Most of us will say we only wish that we had done this surgery sooner. A year ago at this time I could not have imagined doing this. It had a nasty stigma attached to it and a feeling of failure. I met with a regular dietician at the same time as my bariatric consultation. I knew I needed help as I never felt satisfied. I am only 2.5 months out but the restriction you get is really everything it is advertised to be. I had major problems with Portion Control but now I get that physical reminder and there is just no need to keep going after that.
I wish I did this sooner I just didnt want to admit that I needed help. This community has been very helpful during my journey.

This is a great idea because as you know to a large extent the data do not exist. At least, not for younger and/or more able-bodied people.

I don't listen to many podcasts (mostly due to time), but I'd be interested. Personally, I had a very hard time finding a sports dietician who understood my issues as a bariatric patient and the issues I was grappling with in terms of building muscle and replacing fat. The biggest scare for me was having to increase my carb count in a day because I was literally cannibalizing muscle by not eating enough carbs with the working out I was doing.
I'd be interested to see where this goes.

Yes, I would listen. I think your idea would be fantastic.
I don’t see your idea as a niche. Many baraiathletes and people in maintenance don’t use this site. Most sites are geared toward weight loss mode. Not much support and info for maintaining (google bariathletes)

Great idea! I would totally listen, and wold love to contribute too. I’m 4.5 years post-RNY and ran my first marathon yesterday. I try to stay engaged with the patient group from my surgeon, to both give and receive support, but there’s no one else like me there and most are in a very different part of their journey. The Bariatrics specialists haven’t been any help in my journey since I hit my goal weight, and the non-Bariatrics nutritionists and trainers haven’t had much idea what to do with me either. PM me if you want to talk more.

Hey guys. I was wondering, if there was a podcast that focused on Bariatric fitness and nutrition once we get to maintenance, would anybody listen? I feel like trainers and nutritionists that understand caloric needs for a Bariatric patient who wants to excel at physical fitness are hard to come by.

So I had the idea of starting up a podcast to talk about it. A little info, some guests, discuss some research, whatever. What do you guys think?

I am almost one year out of surgery. Besides the gym I wanted to try something new. I was looking at yoga or Tai Chi, both that have been recommended to me.

Over the last few years I have seen videos on YouTube and social media about DDP Yoga. After watching some videos with my wife last week, we decided to purchase the program and give it a try. So far we like it and have been impressed. I’m only in the first week, but already my back feels better and can now stretch farther than day one. And DDP is entertaining and very motivating to follow. Like Diamond Dallas says 'It Ain't Your Mama's Yoga’.

4 days full liquids & 3 days Clear Liquids before surgery. She advised me to have a journal before our video conference so I can start accounting for what goes in my mouth. My daughter pulled a nice monthly schedule off internet and I made a nice note book (attached).

She almost started me on my Vitamins over a month ago so I can get adjusted to taking them timely with my work schedule - 4am, 8:00am, 12:30pm(after lunch) and last one before bed. I've been taking the Biotin capsules for 3 months to get them in my system but will switch over to the biotin melts after surgery to get a headstart from Hair loss. I take these before I leave work so they aren't close to my last Vitamin intake. Just being proactive before surgery!

That's great, your covered from every angle and ready to go. What does the preop diet consist of? Is it liquids? I didnt have to do a preop diet but in a way I wish I did. I feel like it's good prep to what you will have to do after. X

A great video by Dr. Vuong that explains weight loss surgery vs exercise. "Disclaimer" - this is not for EVERYONE. Those of you losing tons of weight working out 4-6 weeks after surgery - Kudos to you, but the rest of us let's take our time to heal.

Question: Would you enter a brand new car you purchased into a Daytona 500 race? No
So why would you start going to the gym shortly after getting a new stomach? If that worked for you (going to the gym) before surgery, why are you still obese? I haven't had surgery yet but I was into fitness/exercise before my slip/fall injury 2.5 years ago which has brought me to my August 27th VSG surgery. I've seen several posts of individuals wondering why their weight loss has stalled after 1 month because their lifting weights and going to the gym almost every day. Ask yourself, "What am I burning off?". You are taking in during your first month less than 500-600 calories, you are working that off at the gym and then, guess what "your hunger comes creeping back". No, I'm not an expert but I do have common sense. I want us all to be SUCCESSFUL & our first year is when we can turn this weightloss thing out!! So worry less about strenuous workouts and more on figuring out how to give your body more LOVE through figuring out how to balance out the right amount of food and nutrition. Remember - weight lose is 80 percent food and 20 percent exercise. Below information was taken from "Women's Health Magazine"
Here's what that might look like:

"I see this in patients all the time,” says Lofton. “People think, ‘If I run the marathonor start going to boot camp, I’m going to lose weight’ but they’re often disappointed when they don’t.”
You don't need to hit an exact 80/20 ratio to shed pounds, but it is important for people to focus primarily on diet when they're trying to lose weight. "You can lose weight without exercise, but you cannot lose weight if your nutrition counteracts your energy expenditure through exercise," Matheny says.
WE WILL ALL SUCCEED! God Bless
