I literally just got the hospital preop nurse that calls you to go over preop questions and give you information about what to expect on day of surgery say to me VERBATIM "then why are you having the surgery"!!!!!!!!! because my answers were "no" to a lot of her questions except being prediabetic . It fell off her mouth before she could control it!! I was so taken aback and laughed at the hilarity of the Stupid question!!!
I'm generally not in the business of caring at ALL about what others think about my decision but it's crazyyyyyy how other people think they should have opinions about WLS!

I'd say to you Annie, don't worry about what others think, just look forward to how wonderful the next phase of your life would be, whether physically, emotionally, health wise, psychologically etc!!!

Good luck with your surgery! I'm right behind you on Friday

It's really not her business why you're choosing to have this surgery. Each person's motivation is different and none of them are wrong. Just hang in there and good luck with your surgery.

Well I perhaps think the doctor just wanted to wish you well and add encouragement in a socially accepted way (he couldn't very well say good luck but you already feel great) Maybe he should have just said good luck.
Your sister may be right however about the amount of people who will believe they can comment on your looks.
A lot of people have surgery to feel better. I can only speak from my perspective: Mine was medically necessary but along the way i noticed there was no denying that I looked better too. And enjoying that aspect did not invalidate my original reason.

Tell her insurance doesn't pay for anything just to make you feel good. They don't even pay for something you'd really LIKE. If it's not medically necessary, they don't pay - period. I don't know about you, personally, but most people on here had insurance pay for their surgeries.

Sorry about the loss of your mom! ((hugs))
Doesn't matter why someone chooses to have this surgery. They are all equally important and nobody's motivation or fight is more important than another. They are all valid reasons. If someone is MO, do we care? Let em get the surgery and experience the benefits all around. I guarantee no one will miss understanding how much better they feel. The proof will be in the pudding. You can't miss it. IT hits you upside the head how much better you feel.

I just had the worst conversation with my sister. I had called her to tell her I came from the endodontist who told me I have to have a root canal. I told her that as I was leaving he was like “good luck with your surgery, but you already look great.” And I was annoyed. So I was telling her I was annoyed and she said why? And I said “I guess I’m not comfortable with people commenting on my body” and she said “well you better get used to it and you’re going to lose weight so quickly that your mind won’t be able to keep up.” And I said “and also how does he know I’m having surgery to look good? What if I want to feel good?” And she said “I feel like most people have surgery to look good” and I said “well you can feel whatever you want but the science says otherwise. People have this surgery to resolve a ton of other medical problems. Skinny people who have uncontrolled diabetes have it in order to help their diabetes” and she’s like “well you’re having it to look good.” And she knows why I’m having it. It’s because my feet hurt, my knees hurt, I can’t be active anymore. I’m ashamed to leave the house sometimes. BTW my surgery is on Wednesday. I am single and wish she could be supportive but I just don’t think it’s in her. She is taking me to the hospital though. my mom passed away in March, and I really wish she was here right now.

We had our 1 month post op weigh in Friday. Before we had this surgery we made a pact that if we were spending all the money to do this we were DOING IT “like a boss”. Following the plan, working the program, working our asses off in the gym, and leaning on each other for support when we need it. When one feels too tired to work out or too lazy to meal prep properly the other pulls them back. We push each other every day and I can’t imagine having gone through this alone without that support.
    Surgery Day 7/9/19 - 340 & 290 lbs
    Friday 8/9/19 - 271 & 241 lbs
Total loss since surgery- 68 & 49 lbs

I’m Day 16 post op. 25lb down. I also started body contour massages and I’m wearing a girdle similar to those used post plastic surgery to avoid sagging skin as much as I can. Still struggling with my daily goal of 60gr of Protein.

    Hey siblings,
I'm a bit bummed right now. My weight is actually up 1.5 lbs from my current 'profile weight'. I had RNY on 7/25.
I've stuck to liquids like a madwoman. I've tracked intake on various days of ea week. I've averaged anywhere from 100 calories a day to 340. Ironically the 1st week after surgery I was closer to 300 calorie mark and then I had issues with nausea, feeling tight restriction even when only drinking few oz's, etc. so I dropped down to 100 calories or less for about 4 days.
Ended up getting 2 bags of IV fluids last Thurs Wasn't on an IV for 24 hours, etc. I knew I'd have some 'water weight' gain from 2 bags of IV fluids but scale has not budged from current gain (Waited 3 days to weigh hoping I'd get some Water off).
So am almost 3 wks out with only a 10 lb loss to show. Was SO looking forward to pureed foods as I've been on liquids FOREVER, but now am terrified I'll eat pureed foods and start gaining. I plan to keep pureed (plus any shake supplementation) down to a bare minimum of calories/fat/carbs (of course Protein is my main focus).
Weird, while I was typing this my dr called!! Said he wants me to start taking some bites of food tomorrow. He said avocado, eggs, etc. I was like..um...puree stuff. he said 'no, real bites'. LOL..I told him I'd do whatever he asked lol...as I"m staring at HIS list for the pureed phase which I was supposed to start this Thursday.
GAH! I just realized I'm posting as I'm so nervous about what will happen when I add purees (and I know tracking is crucial, at least it is to me..it gives me comfort)..and now he said 'start tomorrow'. Oh sweet baby Jesus...
I am seriously so happy that my siblings are doing so well but I must admit I'm becoming very sad and bewildered.

What are you guys month 2 goals? I haven’t set them ALL yet but two are to continue to close all three rings every day and to make it on the top 20 board at our gym. There’s a board when you walk in with the prior months most active members. It’s not because I want anyone else to see my name it’s more for validation for myself and every time I walk in and see my name up there I’ll keep pushing to stay there!

You'll lose no matter what. You're only getting in like 300 calories. When i moved to purees my calories went to 400-500 calories. I was still losing, but be warned there normally is a week 3 stall so don't think its your purees thats stopping you. Your body is just adjusting. I just got out of a stall it was week 2 maybe 2-7 I stalled. I finally dropped another pound last night.

It occurs to me that not all of us are foodies, born with an innate desire to cook and try new recipes! Many of us got to the morbidly obese ball by eating fast food from drive thrus, or delivery meals. Still others shop in the frozen pre-made food isle and love Stouffer's Mac n cheese and Stouffer's Lasagna, and Banquet Fried chicken entrees! Many of us, have very limited ability (especially in the early days of weight loss) to stand up while preparing food. And, then too--many of us are on either fixed incomes or have very limited money for food--even though we might have been guilty pre-surgery of buying tons of craptastic food from the grocery store.
So shew! Long-winded! Let's use this thread to link to and discuss different options in our stores where we can get healthy pre-cooked meals or meals that are prepared and only need to go into the oven for 20 or so minutes! The cool thing about it is, even in the early days, many of us will get 2-3 servings from a single meal! So we will still be saving $$$$ over the drive through and copious volumes of quick fix crap food!
PLEASE for God's sake!!! Read the previous entries!! We don't want a billion posts about rotisserie chicken! One will suffice! Let's try NOT to duplicate! When possible, link to specific items from your favorite grocery, so people can see what it is your linking to!!!
    OK go!!!

Meals ideas with the family. Protein and vegetables are my safe bet. You can add items on your plan. Your family can eat the extra carbs and sugar. (My husband knows what foods to hide or keep out of the house lol)
My examples: I also eat this way in restaurants – I can opt the extra carbs/sugar for other items – (make sure my examples fit your plan)
chicken fajitas no tortilla any other items allowed on your plan- Let the family have tortillas
Grilled salmon, garlic roasted riced cauliflower and any other items on your plan - let the family have garlic bread, corn or potato and pie.
Hamburger patty (turkey or veggie burger if you like) Lettuce wrap or salad style no bun – let the family have the bun
Pork loin - roasted/grilled vegetables let the family have their items
Stir fry no rice – let the family have rice
eggs or omelet jimmy dean turkey sausage– any other items on your plan let the family have toast.

I'm 3.5 months post-surgery and really sticking with my diet and have had amazing success with weight loss. I have found sticking to the same foods and times to work for me. The problem is that my wife and son have started to complain that I have messed up their meals and meal planning. They want me to go out to eat with them and either share something or just sit there with them. I have no interest in doing this, as what I doing is working for me. Are there meals that you prepare that can be shared with family and stay our your post-op diet?

I decided to share my story with you all. I'm a sudden cardiac arrest ( also known as sudden cardiac death) survivor. I was at work on October 30th 2015 when I was stricken. I was clinically dead for over 5 minutes. I was revived with the use of an AED (automated external defibrillator). I also suffered from mild cognitive impairment, kidney failure and laryngeal edema (swelling of the larynx) which was so severe an emergency tracheostomy was performed on me. I spent 30 days in the hospital with majority of them in ICU. The total survival rate from sudden cardiac arrest which kills 17 million people every year worldwide is only 1%. I am a walking and talking miracle and thank God everyday for my miracle. I was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy ( severe thickening of the lower left ventricle in my heart) which was the cause of my cardiac arrest and had an ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) surgically implanted in my chest to shock my heart back into rhythm if my heartbeat becomes irregular. I have been advised by my cardiologist not to engage any strenuous exercises due to my enlarged heart. I've been obese since my late 20's (I'm 51 now) and decided to have WLS after years of failed diets and exercise, I decided to take control of my health once and for all. I had RNY surgery on April 11th and to this date, I am 93 lbs. down with in just a little under 5 months with 50 lbs. to go until I reach my goal weight and I feel great! I accomplished my current progress without exercise due to my restrictions. Follow your post-op meal plan closely and with time, you will see and feel the weight coming off. I just want let you all know, if your journey is slow and your faith is low, I want you to keep your head up! Just remember this, you did not become obese overnight, it took time and it will take time for the weight to come off. I'm sorry for taking up your time but I just felt compelled to tell you my story since we're all brothers and sisters in this journey.

Obesity is NOT about people being lazy... It's a disease. A medical condition that millions of people seek no treatment for yearly.
I believe this so much that I blogged about it last week.

    Obesity is Not Your Fault:
    http://weighinradio.com/blog-post/obesity-is-not-your-fault/

But that doesn't mean obesity isn't your responsibility! Take care of yourself people. There is nothing weak about asking for help. It's probably one of the most courageous things you will ever do in your life.
