Well after 9 months of weight loss and down 60lbs I was really struggling to lose more weight. I changed exercising routine using Orangetheory 2-3x a week to increase intensity. After seeing my physician at 11 months out I was about to start Trulicity to hopefully jumpstart my weight loss since exercise was not working. This all came to a halt when I thought well I have not had my menstrual cycle in months. Let’s just be sure and since I had a an extra pregnancy test in cabinet I took it. Let me say my cycle has always been irregular and I’ve had an IUD in place the last 2 years. So really thought I was humoring myself my taking the test. I am 38 and had no plans to add to my already family of 5. Well test was positive and turns out I’m almost 5 months pregnant. Not sure if it’s just that I’m the 1% that IUD failed or that weight loss some how contributed to my IUD misplacement.

How did everyone do, during Thanksgiving? We went to my in laws. I am so thankful I didn't have to cook everything this year. I managed to eat a small slice of Turkey and a small slice of Ham. I had some mash potatoes and two spoon full of macaroni and cheese. I had a sliver of a piece of pumpkin pie. I figured its only one day a year. Right back to Protein protein protein!!!! I hit my 3 month stall during Nov it lasted a few weeks. Last time I was here I was 210 in the first week of Nov and had a 3week stall (UGH!!) and now finally losing again. Down to 205lbs. I am hoping now that my stall is gone I'll start dropping weight steadily again. Anywho, I hope everyone is doing well!!!

Tomorrow will be 8 weeks since surgery and I have lost 23lbs. This is the lowest I have weighed in 3 years. Weight loss has now slowed significantly to 1-2 lbs a week. Averaging 900 calories a day and my doctor recommends no carbs for 6 months. I can eat anything on Keto diet and have been enjoying some recipes I got off Pinterest. Exercising 3 days a week for 45 minutes each with 20 minutes dedicated to elliptical for cardio . It is hard not to get discouraged but I have focus on goal to get to December where I can introduce healthy carbs and if I can just do 5-8 lbs a month that is another 20 lbs.

You're doing so good with your exercise routine. With as little as you are eating you absolutely need your Vitamins. I have the mixed fruit chewable and take 2 a day. It says 4 but I have all the vitamins in my Protein Drinks so I figure I'll start with 2. I eased into them as I also didn't like the flavor and started with one and stopped at 2, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. I have noticed that it has helped. You need them to take care of yourself and to build muscles. It is my new "well you just have to do it" stuff like Protein drinks. Mind over matter I guess. Also, muscle weighs more than fat, so you may be losing inches, but not losing pounds as you are gaining muscles. Remember this is a journey and not a sprint, your nutrition is as important as your exercise. You've done a great job and don't get impatient.

Day 2 post op. Pushing fluids which is a chore. Mixing half cranberry juice/water, Apple juice/water, eating sf popsicles, and sf Jello. broth has not been so great maybe a couple sips but I can’t get myself to take it. Any tips on what to make while on clears? I have one week of clears then I move to full liquids. I am trying to manage my pain with Tylenol. Best way to describe it is I’m just uncomfortable. Right side of abdomen is sore. No position is great and walking does help get some gas out, but I pretty much have to force myself. sleep is not easy. Maybe an hour then I am back to being uncomfortable. Just looking for some encouragement in my early post op or tips on clears to drink or how to manage pain. Thank you.

For pain while trying to sleep, I found a heating pad worked wonders. Room temp liquids or warm Decaf teas before cold drinks helped. It will still be small sips until inflammation goes down.
Honestly, time and healing are going to fix all these issues and it seems to take longer than it does. If you need better pain meds to sleep ask for them because lack of sleep will magnify everything. Take naps, I HAD to take naps in the early weeks - it is major surgery you are recovering from be patient and kind to yourself. But you must work at getting fluids in.

Day 3 post op for me. Most of my fluids are my Isopure drink. I'm trying hard to meet liquid and Protein goals, so isopure seems to be my best bet. Once I'm able to tolerate more than a sip at a time, I'm sure I'll be able to add in broth, popsicles, etc.
I took my pain prescription at bedtime and I slept 7 hours! I'm super excited about that LOL I am walking a bit every hour, so I think that may be helping to tire me out at night too.
During the day, I sit myself up with a ton of pillows behind my back and my head, and another one across my belly for support. I tell myself that my body has gone thru physical trauma just a few days ago, so I'm supposed to be sore and uncomfortable. We'll feel better with each day that goes by, and if we stick to our program, our rewards will be huge! Good luck to us both!

I am glad I saw this. I am day 2 post op and pretty miserable. Upper abdominal pressure and just soreness with movement. Walking and taking Tylenol every 6 hours got pain.

Thanks for the advice everyone! Ive tried Protein2O and a dozen other like it at just can't stomach it. They all make me nauseous. I think I will go to the store and buy some Protein Shakes. Starting to feel a little weak and lightheaded.

Girl, this is 100% me too right now. I also had surgery last week. I was crying pre-op, didn’t want to do it, pushed myself to go to the OR. I immediately regretted it upon waking up & have every day since. I wished my husband had talked me out of it. Recovery was much, much harder and more painful than I was expecting. If I had known it was going to be like this, I would have tried so much harder to lose the weight without surgery.

However, we can’t change it now. It’s done, there is no rewind button, and this is life now. I am starting to feel better as the pain has eased up tremendously & now I’m on full liquids instead of clear. It also helps me to think that this will not last forever. Eventually I will feel “normal” and be able to eat normal foods, just less of them, which is what I wanted from this. I wanted to be able to eat normally- binging & having multiple servings like I did was not normal.

I also made a list of all the things I will be able to do as a result of this surgery. I won’t feel like hiding myself because of my weight, I’ll take pictures with my family which I haven’t done in years, be able to enjoy social gatherings & going out in public without feeling embarrassed of my weight, play and ride bikes with my kids, swim, feel good in clothes, etc. My weight has held me back from living & enjoying my life for the past 5 years. Thinking in terms of that helped me so much.

Good luck! Fingers crossed that a year from now when we have lost weight & aren’t so restricted, we will be grateful!

Give it time! I have been hanging out on this site for more than 18 months and have lost count of the people who feel like this in the first few weeks. But be reassured, it passes! You are in the toughest phase. Pain from surgery, still feeling yuk from the chemicals they used to put you to sleep, and all you favourite coping mechanisms that involved comfort eating have been taken away - no wonder you feel like ****!
BUT it passes. The weight loss starts. You need smaller clothes. People start to tell you you look great. And you just feel better and better!
As hard as it is, the very best thing you can do is try and use this time as a ‘reset’ time. Remember how bloody awful you feel - so later when you are tempted to make bad eating choices (and you will be!) you can think ‘I did not go through THAT horrible thing just to cheat on it!’ Now is your best time to be slowly learning new eating choices.
But it is hard - hang in there my friend! It does get easier...
