    Lynda486 got a reaction from Chiptress in Date Set! 9/10
    My date is 9/16, and I get nervous and question things too. Until I go out in public and see people that are older and over weight and how they struggle to just move and I don't want that at all. Good luck!

    My date is set and I'm thinking to myself - is this really the right thing? Yes, I KNOW it is! I need to be healthy - my joints just ache and other obese issues cause trouble.
    But, I read over stories all the time here - both good and bad. Then wonder - What if I end up having consequences? And then scary in another way - what happens when I'm thin? (Having not really been anywhere near thin since 15.)
    Anyway - I just had to put this out there to other understanding souls :)

    I can relate to that. I spent a year and a half looking for a job and I got nothing. Even though I was right for the position I was turned down every time. It is frustrating!

    I completely agree with GreenTealael, I have had to call my surgeons office several times. Every time I do, things are suddenly farther along. Sometimes I feel like a pest, but I am betting if I didn't call them I might not even get my surgery this year.

    Meals ideas with the family. Protein and vegetables are my safe bet. You can add items on your plan. Your family can eat the extra carbs and sugar. (My husband knows what foods to hide or keep out of the house lol)
    My examples: I also eat this way in restaurants – I can opt the extra carbs/sugar for other items – (make sure my examples fit your plan)
    chicken fajitas no tortilla any other items allowed on your plan- Let the family have tortillas
    Grilled salmon, garlic roasted riced cauliflower and any other items on your plan - let the family have garlic bread, corn or potato and pie.
    Hamburger patty (turkey or veggie burger if you like) Lettuce wrap or salad style no bun – let the family have the bun
    Pork loin - roasted/grilled vegetables let the family have their items
    Stir fry no rice – let the family have rice
    eggs or omelet jimmy dean turkey sausage– any other items on your plan let the family have toast.

    I can tell you that they won't be worried about your MVC because it isn't high enough to cause a big concern. I work in the medical field and was told this by a DR. But, I don't understand why they make ranges if someone can be off but it's not concerning. Don't stress to much over it

    To be able to cross my legs - I honestly don't know if I ever could. I wasn't a huge child, but its so long ago that I can't recall. To be able to go out in public (a train to NYC, out to eat) and not feel like the biggest person, be the biggest person or get made fun of (that has happened several times in NY City). To not shop in a plus size store. It's been since high school and I'm 40 now. To lose weight and finally keep it off (I've been successful at losing before). To live longer - I want to be there for my family. I have an amazing and supportive husband and a wonderful son, who also struggles a bit with weight (not as much as I ever have). To be an example for my son. To prove everyone wrong. To rock pretty dresses and shoes with wedges/heels. To feel confident. To live free of this fat that has trapped me pretty much my whole life. I don't know what a thin version of me would look like. I haven't met her yet. To say I'm "100-whatever lbs" - OMG it really is one-derland because I haven't been there since high school. I could go on, but I won't. I keep worrying about the surgery so much...am I doing the right thing, all of this, but since my small list is so large, I think I know I'm making the right choice. It is hard. I wish you all the best, every day.

    I'm 50, five years out and maintaining.

    It depends on what food stage you are in. check your surgeons plan to see what’s allowed. You will feel so much better after you get to real food stage.* hang in there*. You can get rid of the shakes when you can hit your Protein goal with real food. My instructions are old *laughing* what are your dieticians set protein goals???
    First stages, I used natures best zero carb protein Water – 40 Grams protein and hydration all in one. It’s the texture is like Gatorade. Not thick like shakes. The sell single bottles at GNC. Test before you buy.

    My dentist talked to me about this before surgery. She said that acid from our stomachs get worse after the surgery and can cause this. She gave me a special toothpaste to try to alleviate it. I go back on Tuesday and will keep you all posted!

    my dentist said he's never personally seen dental issues in his patients who've had WLS, although he'd read about issues in the professional literature. Also, I've been on these internet forums for at the last five years or so, and I only see posts about tooth problems maybe twice a year, so my assumption is, although it can happen, it's pretty uncommon. My dentist gave me a prescription for some super-high fluoride toothpaste to use before I go to bed, though, and he puts a fluoride varnish on my teeth twice a year at my appts. He said that should go a long way toward preventing any potential issues.

    I lost 16 lbs the first four weeks. And I've lost 100% of my excess weight (over 200 lbs)
    I think a lot of people's perceptions of weight loss surgery is based on shows like "My 600 lb Life". Don't forget those people start out with MUCH higher BMI's than the average weight loss patient, so of course they're going to lose a lot faster - at least at first. Other factors that can influence rate of the weight loss are age, gender, metabolism rate, whether or not you lost a weight pre-surgery - I'm sure I'm leaving some out. But the lesson I learned was NOT to compare myself to others. Most of these things you have no control over. The only thing you DO have control over is whether or not you stick to your program, and to be honest, that's going to have a MUCH greater effect on your eventual success than your rate of weight loss will. If you stick to your program, the weight WILL come off, whether fast or slow.

    Eat high protein...almost like a Keto diet. Protein decreases hunger. It'll take a little bit to detox off of carbs and sugar but it's a must if you want to drop the weight.

    The sleeve is our tool not a magic fix. Excersize too if you can. Walking a couple miles total a day helps.

    HW = 360
    SW = 292

    Don’t expect to feel full the way you are used to. Only eat the recommended portion and then stop. You should be satisfied or not hungry.
    Dont count on dumping to keep you away from unhealthy foods, you might not dump.
    Dont snack unless it is a part of your plan, snacking will sabotage your efforts.
    Dont expect the weight to come off overnight, it didn’t go on that way. Weight loss isn’t a race.
    Stalls happen
    Dont compare yourself to others, we each have our own journey.
    What you can and can’t eat may change from day to day
