My hospital has cancelled all elective surgeries until May 1st but they may extend it. Looks like I’ll be having surgery in July or August. I hope we are all safe, that’s top priority. My surgery can wait.

Some updates that Will definitely delay surgery for me. Our governor Coumo reports that this health crisis will go on for months. Seems like there is no way on earth I’ll have surgery in May or June. I am looking at perhaps July. I began my journey in July 2019. I am hoping we all stay safe and healthy. Wishing positive vibes to you all. Xoxoxo

Yes, this makes perfect sense. And yes, some people may drop out. My guess is nothing is going to happen for at least 30-45 days then they would take the March people first. This is my third time going through this. 10 years ago I was scheduled and was cancelled because I had breast cancer. The second time I was a month from surgery and the doctor stopped accepting the insurance so I'm not surprised this happened. I could say it's not meant to be, but I'm NOT going to say that and will wait some more. grrrrr

Hi it’s.time. My surgery was cancelled and it will be TBD. It was schedule for April 9 and let’s say your surgery is set for 4-16 and they resume surgery, yours would be pushed back and the March folks will get surgery . The coordinator also told me that everyone will be 2 weeks behind. If things resolve I might have my surgery in May or June. It also all depends if people want to wait it out. Who knows. This might be a scheduling mess.

HI, I'm scheduled for April 15th and pre-op testing and diet starts April 1. I'm just hoping it's not postponed.

Repeatingthoughts got a reaction from It's time. in How long a postponement?
My surgical coordinator told me it’s week to week. However, she said that more than likely it will be a May to June situation. I was scheduled for April 9 and clearly that’s not happening. S

All I have left is my final nutrition class which is scheduled Monday (16th) and then all my information will be submitted to insurance. Ahhhhhh... It is getting closer. I'm getting a little nervous now!!!
Packing for the hospital... Comfy clothes (I live 3 hours from where I'll be having surgery), phone charger, lotion (hospitals dry me out), body/facial wipes, deodorant/body spray, hairbrush, tooth brush/paste, dry Shampoo, and hair tie.

Repeatingthoughts reacted to Krimsonbutterflies in Suggestions for "must have items" in my hospital bag?
I brought my flameless candle to relax my nerves...it was very soothing and the overnight team seemed to enjoy it as well. I brought an extension cord, which I needed. Comy clothes for the ride home and a zip up hoodie. Uses a pillow for the ride home. I had a few extra things, soothing aromatherapy lavender lotion for my hands. I have my personal comforts, we all travel different.

Still waiting on a definitive surgery date in late April, have a couple of items pending with my health insurance including an appeal but I have already prepared myself for “self-pay”. Had my pre-op class last week, very informative. A substantial amount of information was provided during the almost 4-hour session. There were about 7 people in the class and the pre-op and post op meal plans were the most discussed topics. Getting support from others who are in pre/post op WLS was the second most popular topic, this forum was mentioned as a good option for on-line support.

Hi, joining the April club! My VSG is on April 6th.
I still have my doubts about whether I should go through with it or not, but I just keep reminding myself the small risk of complications is worth a few possible extra years of life. The worst that could happen is I regain the weight. The best that could happen is that it helps me take 'reset' my health and lifestyle.

Hey! Thanks for the response, no I don’t work for the city. However my husband does, and I’m under his insurance. And yea. That’s what I’m doing however, the doctor I choose isn’t taking patients for a few months so I have to go back on the app and look again.

I'm fortunate in that my pre-op liquid diet is just the day prior to surgery! It will be the week following that will be liquids for me. Then purees for a week, then soft for a week, then back to introducing real food. I think they may be overly confident about that schedule, but we'll see how I progress.
The thing I'm most concerned about is post-surgery, not being able to lift anything over a gallon of milk for 3 weeks. My husband is disabled but will probably be able to lift groceries into the car. Walking them from car to house I'm not 100% sure of though I know he'll try. I've tentatively asked my neighbor and friend if I can borrow her sons to help if needed.
Other than that, I'm not really too concerned. Everything seems to be falling into place. I'm now conceptualizing the meals I need to prepare in advance, portion and freeze for my husband for a couple of weeks post-op. I'm checking things off my list of to-do's before surgery, so I'm feeling pretty on top of it right now.
Good luck to us all as we prepare for our upcoming events!
