Also, always a good idea in my opinion to check in with your surgeon/nutritionist when concerned about weight loss. They know your history hopefully extremely well and any challenges you are facing (i.e. illnesses, diabetes, PCOS, menopause (peri, during or post), injuries etc. that prevent regular exercise)....they should not be just a team that does the surgery and goes away.
My surgeon, nutritionist and I already kind of knew ahead of time that I was likely to be a slow loser and I had been an extremely slow loser in any method I chose after years upon years of yo yo dieting. So we knew I was going to likely fall somewhere in the middle range at best but we all hoped for more.
They have termed me a low average to slow loser and that is fine as I know it just means I need to be more diligent on the things within my control that will take me from slow to 'no loser'. We made adjustments and tweaks along the way working our ways through stalls, through possible other issues.
Like I mentioned before, I had been given, when 2 months out, my target calories and I had to push a bit to get my target macros as I favor a low carb/low fat diet. After 4 weeks, even being under 20-30 grams of carbs, things just seemed to flatten. Then they switched my macros around and increased my carbs which had me tripping out but the weight started coming off again.
Sure we can come here and vent and hopefully what this leads to is productive behavior which means continuing to stick out the journey, to step away from the scale when the frustrations threaten your journey, to look at other NSV's, to check and see are their basics we are letting slip (i.e. I stopped logging food in my fitness pal for 3 days so I had no hard data when something changed)...are we choosing a 'good/valid' entry in our trackers...do we have firm understanding of some of the things we are concerned about.
If ppl ask you to post your food, don't think it is that they don't believe you...there could be something you are missing or it validates what you are saying, you get others who have been down this road...their very valuable input...and then ppl can help tackle troubleshooting other things. What I hope we get the MOST from threads like this is when we are open, and...maybe a bit more careful with tone (not saying things should not be challenged or debated that are actually wrong...I just don't want to alienate someone who doesn't understand how we got to xyz reply and frustrated tone..to not post what they are doing because they are afraid.
In the end we want to all help each other REMAIN on our journey whether losing 20 lbs, 10 lbs 5 lbs a month..or sometimes even 0...yes, that can happen...because we know in the end, patience and persistence will win out.

I thought this was supposed to be a positive board. Simply put everyone’s body and metabolism are not the same. We all know this so If I chose to say that I lose at a slower rate than someone else, sometimes it can be frustrating, then I move past it - then this should be a space to do so, without being put down or bombarded with “scientific facts” that is also not one size fits all. We all have our days where we may compare ourselves to others and then we are realistic and understand that we are not all the same and are thankful for what we have been able to do and the accomplishments we have made so far. Diet, exercise and genetics all play it’s roles in our weight loss as well as gain. Providing informative information and helpful is one thing but I do not understand the need to put others down.

I have always been a slow loser and I remember going through the initial process and speaking to the nutritionist and ultimately it’s going to come down to exercise for me. It seems as if I store everything, but I am hoping be to be at my goal by the 12-13 month mark. I notice when I amp up the exercise I lose a little more but for others dieting is all they need. I try not to compare anymore because I will only depress myself. After surgery our metabolism and genetic make up has not changed. Surgery is just a way to provide extra assistance.

Hey SLs so the scale didn't budge today. However instead of being sad I went shopping in my closet! The cute outfits I have from 10 yrs ago fit again and some are too big.

This process is everything remember that. The scale isn't our only indicator.

    Woo!

For anybody wanting to know I had my gastric bypass done in Tijuana Mexico by Pompeii Surgical. My surgeon was Dr.Q and I have has no problems since. I've lost 51lbs since surgery on October 16th 2019.
Their process was easy by applying for it , then getting approved to have a weightloss procedure , to applying for financing . And it was a piece of cake. I have pictures attached of my progress and my videos can be found on Youtibe under Deadspacegrave.
    Thanks.

I weigh myself once a week because for me it seems to be more reliable than weighing daily. I would drive myself crazy weighing daily and watching the fluctuations.

Also keep in mind that just because the scale isn't showing a change, it doesn't mean that you aren't still losing inches. Read about fatty liver, and you'll find that there are periods when you will think you aren't losing weight, but you are losing fat from your liver. Once the liver is healthy again, the metabolism gets a boost. It was very reassuring to me to know that as long as I am remaining consistent, I will be rewarded in the end. Stay diligent and compliant. Keep carbs low, drink your Water, get lots of quality sleep and manage stress. Those that the things that are far more likely to throw you off than your increase of calories at this point.

I lost slowly and it was difficult because it made no sense and it was very frustrating at times. In hindsight, I am glad it took longer because I don’t take a single pound lost for granted.
I do think there are pitfalls with both. There is a risk of giving up when the weight loss is slow.

I am almost 2 years out. I miss enjoying my food. I keep trying things hoping to experience the old pleasure, but it's just not there. This is definitely a mixed blessing. It's like I want to really enjoy a small sandwich, or fruit, or whatever, but when I get it, I'm like "meh!" But, then I see the next thing and I'm tempted again, just to be disappointed again. Sadly, the only thing that seems to get close to the old culinary pleasure points is sweets, and even they are disappointing. 😟

I will be hitting the road in a few days and my road trip Snacks have definitely changed. Subs and a glazed donut from Krispy Kreme are occasionally missed especially during my 8 hour drives.

I'm in NJ, where the food is so good! I miss bread (NJ pizza, Bagels and subs) and Chinese. I may miss Pasta sometimes, but that passes. I will miss the Christmas Cookies this year. But honestly, while it can be hard, nothing beats the way I feel now and, while I'm not where I want to be with my weight just yet, I like the way I look sooooo much better than I did. I know I'll get there. I did this for my health and, very quickly, I got off my blood pressure meds and I'm not on any meds. That's amazing and freeing. Love my tool!

lyladyp reacted to FluffyChix in Depressed / Feel Like I’ve Failed
Hey Nate, sorry you feel like you've failed WLS. I think that's the deep dark dirty fear we all have and it's also a lie we tell ourselves.
The only way to fail is to totally check out and not try any longer. But I don't see that in your intention!
I agree that if you are still depressed, you should run not walk to your psych and or doc and ask to have your meds adjusted to either another dose or to a different combination.
    Some other things that help:
Exercise (walking), especially in sunlight and fresh air/green areas. And if you can walk fast until you feel pooped even better, but you may not have the strength for that, so work with your doc.
Practice deep breathing exercises and relaxation techniques. Pray or meditate. Google four square breathing. Really great stuff.
Watch comedies and laugh out loud.
Smile at yourself in the mirror and envision you dressed in a Super Hero outfit.
Find someone you love and hug them tightly, rocking, for a long time. Or hug your pet!
Then clean out your pantry, fridge, and freezer. Clean out the booze closet too.
Begin planning, tracking, weighing, measuring your food.
Here are your rules to start:
3 meals + 2-3 small Snacks (no more than 100cals each and low carb high protein):
Each meal = no more than 1 cup of food by volume = 2-3 oz of lean dense Protein by weight + 1-2 oz of al dente steamed dense veggies + 1 tsp healthy fat equivalent: olive oil, ghee, butter, avocado oil, coconut oil or 1oz avocado.
    snack Ideas:
    Hard boiled egg
1oz Boar's Head Turkey or Everroast chicken
    1oz Leftover Dense protein
    1oz reduced fat cheese + 1/4oz almonds
    2oz Granny Smith apple + 1/4oz almonds + 1 lite string cheese
4oz Greek Non Fat Yogurt + 1oz blueberries
1 Jello sugar free cup + 1/4c Plain Greek Yogurt + 2-3 drops liquid vanilla stevia
    1 sugar free popsicle
1cup raw veggies + 1/4c Plain Greek Yogurt + 1/2tsp Ranch Dressing Mix or Lipton Onion Soup Mix
