If you ever feel like you're surrounded by know it alls (here or in real life) and want to scream/type "just shut up already" you're not alone.

You're awesome. You're doing great. If your journey is totally normal and you're freaked out because you're NOT experiencing the myriad of issues you see here, I feel ya. If you're having issues, I hope you're finding the non-judgmental support you need. If you're not, I hope you find it. JanJan19 got a reaction from Deedee12 in 50 days post op & finally down a size!
Recently passed 50 days post op & finally hit 30 pounds lost. I was firmly stuck in my exact same size 20 pants for most of that 30 pounds, not even loose. Finally, finally I moved into the "smaller 20's" and then bam, just a day or two later those smaller 20's were sliding off and I'm down to an 18.

Zero issues to report. Really zero issues since a day or two post op. I'm past the first month anxiety of freaking out because I DON'T have issues. I don't think even think that hard about any of this most days. Yes, I count every calorie & log it all with my Protein & Water but I'm already doing that without thinking much about it. I still see yummy pastries at the coffee shop & think "that looks great" but it's not in my carb/calories/protein so my next thought is "can't have that" and that's it. And I LOVE food. I do, but being off sugar and having a reduced stomach size has made all the difference.

My fingers are firmly crossed that this is working.

JanJan19 got a reaction from NagathaChristie in Pre-op and obsessed?
I think I was like this too. I'm not sure I was obsessed, but I was real into watching YouTube videos & Googling things. I wanted to watch every person on YouTube's journey, and then I'd go through their videos to see what their month one was like, etc.

My surgery was May 23 - so... 6 weeks ago?? I think the "obsession" with looking at people's journeys & checking in here constantly dropped off 3-4 weeks post op. I'm almost "bored" with it now, if that makes any sense? I feel much more confident in what Im doing & much less concerned with checking here to get opinions.

I never even had a clear liquid phase. It was liquids from Day 2. Day 1 (surgery day) was nothing. Day 2, next day was Water & apple juice. I don't think I wanted anything other than that. By day 3 I was on Protein Shakes.

I’m almost in week 6 right now and I absolutely had hunger after surgery. Like, a lot. Like smack everyone who brought their food in front of me on my liquid diet hungry. I didn’t get sick so I was just unhappy and hungry a lot.
Once I started soft food it really helped. Now that I’m released to eat All food I can tell you that my hunger is satisfied waaaay quicker than before. Like, never in my life would a piece of turkey wrapped in one slice of cheese make me feel full and satisfied. Now it does for a few hours easily.
So I still get hungry but it is much more quickly and easily satisfied. Everyone has such different expectations and experiences here that it can be hard to figure out and I think you really can’t guess what it will be like for you until it is done.

Alice, it gets better. I'm only 35 days out so I can remember that first couple weeks. The worst hunger for me was during Soups and Protein Drinks. I still experience hunger now, but it's more manageable and is satisfied with a 4oz meal. Soup just made me angry.

Hi Karen! I'm 30 days out & I've absolutely experienced hunger & get real annoyed when people claim it's head hunger. Listen, when you're eating 500 calories a day, there are going to be times you're hungry. BUT - it's still less than before if that helps. It's also different by day. Some days I can go hours & hours without needing anything. Others I'm legitimately hungry. Not bored, I just want a dang chicken breast. But again - manageable. I'm currently at 600-900 calories daily & it's fine. There's NO WAY I'd be able to eat this little without the surgery.

JanJan19 got a reaction from Gekeelar84 in Has anyone had their gallbladder removed at the same time their surgery?
I've seen so many comments from people who have had to have their gallbladder removed just months after their WLS I started to research why the heck they don't just take it out when they do the WLS. From what I could gather, they don't because "usually" they won't take anything out until it's necessary. However, there also doesn't seem to be any purpose of the gallbladder & if your dr is suggesting to take it out now, he might be saving you a bunch of money in co-pays and max out of pockets doing it now rather than say have it flair up in January, & you're back to $0 on insurance.

JanJan19 got a reaction from DanieHall in Eating out or at others homes...
Hi Danie! I am only a few weeks ahead of you so I can offer my thoughts on what the first couple of weeks will look like for you. The first time I went to a restaurant was 15 days post op. If I'd gone before that, I'd probably have been super annoyed because there'd have been nearly nothing I could order. Though, depending on the situation I suppose you could (not that you'd want to) go to a Panera and order something like chicken Soup and then only eat the broth. It would just be a real bummer.

I ate out with a friend that does not know I've had the surgery just two weeks post surgery. We went to a breakfast place and I had coffee until my food arrived, the just set it aside and never took another sip. No one seemed to notice this at all. For food, I ordered a scrambler (scrambled eggs, veggies, cheese) and asked for cottage cheese instead of hash browns. When they asked what toast I wanted I just said wheat, knowing full well I'd take it to go & crumble it up for the birds. At this stage, it just felt like the easier option than refusing toast.

Food arrived, I probably ate 1/4 or 1/3 of the eggs. And honestly it wasn't a big deal. I said to my friend I went low carb & was cutting back. She ordered a pile of sugary crepes and enjoyed them. It didn't bother me in the least to see someone else eating something yummy. Already at this point, eggs and cheese is heaven for me.

I've heard people mention that waitress will be like "is your food okay" when you eat less than half of it. It's fine. So much of it is your body language and how you handle it on your end. For me for this meal, I probably had my fork in my hand for a good long while as we were yapping and eating & I was pacing myself. But also, it probably looked like I was still picking at it. Eventually the waitress asked if I wanted a box. No big deal.

At one point my friend was like, oh wow I just ate this entire plate and you've not eaten nearly as much. I super casually was like "oh I had a Protein Shake this morning." Honestly the girl had no clue and I flat out told her many times last year that I wanted to have gastric sleeve. Admittedly, I'm sure I said it flippantly and she didn't take me THAT seriously, but the thing is... no one pays any damn attention to anything but themselves most of the time. Example, even when she noticed that she'd cleared her plate & I hadn't. That wasn't about ME, it was about her. She was (I'm assuming) thinking crap did I just wolf that down?

So for sure, you can fake it through a meal if you don't want people to know. Say you just ate or you've gone Keto. Whatever.

As far as trying to make you eat more - there will ALWAYS be situations. It's really up to you to say no. My own damn mother (who knows I had this done & how hard I'm trying) showed me a recipe last week for something she loves that's low carb. I looked at it and said "looks great, but too many calories for me at this stage." Today she stopped by my house and brought me a container of the same thing I just last week told her no on. I told her to take it right back out the door with her. When you're in a 500-700 calorie a day phase, you will guard those calories fiercely.

JanJan19 got a reaction from AZhiker in Bariatric surgery was a big mistake
If you were trying to warn people off bariatric surgery with this post I think you've done the opposite. For starters, I'm not even sure you're real. Second, if you got a major surgery such as this without doing any research... that's on you.

Six food trucks and there was NOTHING you could eat? You sound like you're purposely being difficult because you're so angry. There were no hot dogs? Pull it off the bun and eat half. No big deal. A taco truck? Eat the meat & cheese, skip the shell. You are being purposely difficult in some attempt to punish everyone for your anger.

Mother's Day - you couldn't go out for Breakfast? Why on earth not? Assuming you were 4 weeks post op by then you could have ordered scrambled eggs with cheese and a side of cottage cheese instead of hash browns. IF the point of the holiday was to spend it with loved ones, that's what you do. If you're so mortified by the waitress asking if you enjoyed your meal ask for a to-go box the moment they set it down and pack up what you won't eat.

You look like a fool carrying a water bottle - are you serious with this? American's have a drink in hand ALL THE TIME. Soda, coffee cups, frap cups. People are constantly walking around with drinks.

Im not sure if I hope you're real or not. If you're not real, you are a real sad individual to come on here and troll people trying to improve their lives. Get a new hobby. If you are real... please get help. For the sake of your family, please.
