I had vitamin patches but didn't use them right away. I was recovering from surgery and just didn't have the energy to commit to them. It is 100% normal to have low energy after surgery. #1-you had major surgery and your body is taking up extra energy to heal. #2-you're not taking in much because of the type of surgery.
I felt like I got run over by a truck and I felt that way for about a week. The 2nd week, my energy started coming back, but it was kind of a gradual return, one day at a time. I went back to work in the 2nd week, but I'll tell ya, I had to take frequent breaks due to fatigue and even fell asleep at lunch.
Back to your original question: I started chewable vitamins at about week 3 or 4 because when I tried the Patches, I developed an allergic reaction to the adhesive. Everyone is a little different in what they can tolerate/when. So, be prepared to have to try several types of Vitamins and various times of day to take them. My first 2 months was a trial and error of vitamins. I absolutely hated the chalky chewables. The soft-chews weren't much better, but tolerable. The biggest issue was that most of them made me feel sick, dizzy, nauseated. I tried so many kinds, I forgot. I tried taking them before meals, with meals, after meals, in the morning, in the afternoon. Man, I was a crazy mess and some of them made me so sick for a couple of hours that I just could not function. I finally settled on gummies that I'd found at costco and took them in the evening. That was the ONLY type and time that seemed to avoid the sick feeling.
Once my stock of giant-sized gummies was gone, I tried the standard "horse pill" variety of vitamins. I estimate that I was at least 6 months post op before trying the standard vitamins and I sure was nervous when I did, but it seemed to work out just fine. I still take them in the evening and haven't had that queazy sickness ever since the first round of Vitamin experiments.

My surgeon and nutritionist had me start Vitamins a month after surgery for the same reason.

Sometime in the first week after I got back home.
Your weakness and lethargy is unlikely due to Vitamins, but just a hangover from the surgery as you go through the initial healing, and quite possibly a result of your current diet being very low in carbohydrates (intentional or not) which is what helps keep our short term energy levels up.

I used vitamin patches from day 1 for three weeks then switched to chewables (didn't like the taste), then capsules.

The next day, chewable only, and after one month I can start the pill form if so desire. I am going to switch to pill because I do not like the taste of the chewable.

Thank you very much for your kind words, they are appreciated! My diet includes Protein Powder and Water only. How long was your preop diet? I still have 6 days to recommit and not screw this up.

Nope, my surgeon just feels like there is enough reserves during that time that its not necessary and that healing of the stomach is more important. You hear how those Multivitamins can make you sick to your stomach? He doesn't want that happening early on so he has his patients wait.

The recommendation from my team is keep it simple at first, hold off on fancy sauces, marinades and sides. Your first solid food meals you probably won't even finish since a bite or two will fill you up. Also introduce foods one at a time, that way if your new sleeve/pouch rejects something you can narrow it down easier, food logging also helps with this. Good Luck 👍.

Today I had a lettuce wrapped grilled chicken burger. 2 days early but whatever. Removed most of the lettuce since it’s hard to digest but ate the burger over 3 meals/snacks. It was heaven. If anyone has a burger lounge I highly suggest their lettuce wrap burgers!!

I was told to take them day 8 on full liquids. If you are taking Iron you need something in your stomach, it's very hard on an empty stomach.

Well for the first year I included carbs as well. I only lost 69 pounds. I also had many big changes over the past yeAr. I am fine with losing slow. Just not ready to be in maintenance quite yet.
My sister passed away at the start of my journey and then my mother just passed in February. So, during those times of heavy grief I wasn’t really following any plan. I had not lost anything since September which was my 6 month point.
i also made a big move about 6 months ago. I have a new dr here in my new location that told me to go back to getting about 1 cup of food at each of my 6 small meals each day. Plus be sure that everything that I do eat contains more Protein than carbs. The fact is that I am still eating carbs. I have not cut them completely out. Oatmeal is ridiculously high in carbs but, you have to do whatever you think is right for you. I don’t worry about calories or fat. The only thing that I look at is the carbs versus protein on labels.
Now I am finally back to losing weight again.

Considering a lot of programs (including my own) allow cottage cheese at 1 week post op, I don’t see why it’s a big deal. Some people here need to take a chill pill.

Even though the surgery is performed by different surgeons, it’s still the same surgery. Something that is recommended in some programs, isn’t going to be dangerous for others who have different rules. Of course I, like others here, recommend following instructions given. However, if you’re going to do things a little bit differently, you’ll be fine as long as you use common sense

I am 10 days post op and was placed on stage 2 immediately after being discharge on day 1. I had cottage cheese (less than 1 oz) on day 3. I chewed well and took tiny bites, and it settled well. I had to burp a lot after, but no discomfort or pain. I was relieved! I've been eating Jello-O, broth, Soups, and cottage cheese most days. MY doctor said I can eat anything my little pouch likes--including spicy food. So I add lime juice and hot sauce to all of my broths and soups and thankfully it settles well too.
All of that to say, I'm with Sonya on this too! FOLLOW YOUR DOCTOR'S PLAN. If you're not sure, CALL THEM, EMAIL THEM, BUG THEM...that's what they're here for. Don't be afraid, just follow the plan, communicate and explore to find out what works for YOU.

I understand completely, I’m 8 days post op and I still have 2 weeks to go before I move to the next stage. I had 2 crackers with my broth, I know I just needed something different. We don’t have a lot of choices during this phase , but we do have to be careful.
I’m not here to judge it’s confronting to know that someone else is going through the same thing. On the other hand I’m down 7lbs since surgery last week...... Whoop Whoop

I did a little, but I managed to lose 16 pounds in one week pre-op. My Dr never said if my liver was good or bad come to think of it.
Try your hardest to not cheat. Good luck! It will all be ok!

No, I didn't cheat because I was terrified of having a fatty liver and not being able to go through with the surgery once they went inside of me and saw it. It's only two weeks, you can do it!

I was so scared of still having NASH I voluntarily put myself on a Liver- Shrinking Diet the Entire month of August 2018- and it WORKED. My surgeon only had to make a teeny portal for the liver retractor, it was the first one to heal, it is only visable now because right below my sternum I had no previous stretch marks. My lower abdomen, ah that is another story, I had 3 babies at or approximating 9 pounds in weight, and wouldn't you know, they each choose a slightly different angle to rest in! My perennial joke-My belly looks like the road map to Indianapolis with all the State and County access roads clearly marked. A good benefit to weight loss? They are actually getting narrower with less internal fat pushing them out. But alas, no bikinis, no 2 piece bathing suits, my skin looks like a 10 car pileup on the Beltway!
