  1. Congrats!
Carolina Rose reacted to Aprilgal in Foodies - honestly how bad is it?
I agree completely. I am a former chef (went to the cia etc) and even if i hadn't been in the food and bev field - for my family and friends food is a huge huge deal.
The pre-op diet and the first month in my opinion was the hardest for me. May i never have to be on a life time pureed diet ( it wasn't that bad - it only lasts a few weeks).
You won't know until you have the surgery what your experience will be. Will you have complications (rare), will you not eventually be able to stomach red meat...will you be a slow loser (holla to all the slow losers like me)...will you wake up hungry?
You might for a while think i just don't care about food but it will pass for most people. Take up bridge or some other new hobby in the interim.
I say all of this because I think expectations pre-surgery aren't talked about enough. We are all special snowflakes.
You are going to have to decide whether or not being a foodie trumps being healthy.
For me, the fear of becoming diabetic, having to take hypertension medication, etc. Took priority over anything i could put into my mouth, no matter how delicious.
Being a foodie doesn't have to stop because of the fact you have a new normal.
Your new lifestyle will take some time to, just to but last night i made a Sicilian meatball recipe with sauce over mashed cauliflower. I ate about a 1/4 cup of meatballs and sauce and whatever left of the mashed cauliflower until I am full ( like 1/8th of a cup). It was great. I am a little over six weeks out and should be in the 600-800 calorie range.
You may have to be a bit more creative if you aren't used to watching your carb intake, but over time, I believe it does get easier.
I regret I didn't have the surgery before my umpteenth yoyo dieting attempt , hich I believed was the 'last time'. I lost 65 pounds and put on 72 pounds over a year and some change. I swear if i could add all the weight i loss together over the years, i am sure it would be around what i weigh currently 238.
    Good health, whatever you choose.

Carolina Rose reacted to Lizwiz in Pre op diet!
I am on my first day of the pre op diet. I am so proud of myself, I haven't cheated and I've wanted to multiple times. I know as the 2 weeks move along may get a little more difficult but hopefully I'll adjust. Anyone else with surgery date 8/28/2019. I have about 150 pounds to lose! Any advice or tips would be welcomed.

Hi Everyone! It has been a while. I'm now about 88 lbs down, but have been stuck losing and gaining the same 5 pounds since January. A bit frustrated, but that's where I am with it.
This year has been incredible. My confidence has grown, as has my energy level. I still have about 50 lbs to go before I reach my ideal weight. I don't know if that's plausible at this point, but I'm hopeful.
In an effort to boost my loss, I've gone back to very low carb, high Protein and have increased my activity a HUGE amount. Hopefully it pays off.

Ha ha I’m not crying but hitting something with a baseball bat sounds good to me. Oooh the pressure and pain gets intense but the morphine knocks out the pain and lowers the pressure

I’m currently waiting to go back for RNY surgery. It’s almost time and I’m so nervous waiting but I know it’s going to be over before I realize it.

I’m headed to the Losers Bench to join you guys. Keep me in your prayers.

Remember, there's no crying in baseball. So come out with the mindset that you're in the game and gonna rip it outta the park. There will be tough times, but remember--these times pass and you will have great times again (or maybe for the first time in your life!!)

Carolina Rose reacted to FluffyChix in Weighing food (how do you measure yours?) cup or scale
REally dense foods can weigh as much as 10oz for a cup of volume. Think tuna casserole, chicken enchilada casserole, etc. Anything gooey ooey and cheesy is a gut bomb on weight but still fits in 1 cup of volume. Even cottage cheese is heavy by weight versus volume.

Thank you very much. I just want to make sure I’m measuring this correctly. I saw someone in another forum post they were eating 10 ounces of food 2 months after surgery. I was thinking that’s quite a bit of food compared to what I see everyone else posting their food intake looks like.

Carolina Rose reacted to Mom_of_Chaos in Weighing food (how do you measure yours?) cup or scale
I often see people confuse oz of volume vs weight or straight up not even understand that there’s a difference.
Maybe this person is confused and measuring volume instead of weight? 10oz as in volume? As in a little over a cup? You’re right 10oz weight wise sure does sound like a lot of food at 2 months PO.
