Wow, you are doing great! I've only lost a couple of pounds since surgery 2 weeks ago today. Care to share your eating and exercise routine?

I've lost an incredibly 32 pounds since surgery 3 weeks ago, which absolutely blows my mind! However, I'm trying not to weigh myself very often, because I know it will ebb and flow and I just want to focus on eating right.

Hi! I’m the same as you. No trouble taking pills at all and I can drink liquids easily. I really don’t know what makes that difference for folks. It will be 2 weeks tomorrow since surgery for me (3/11) and I still have very bad pain from one of my incisions. Also, responding to your other post....it took me about a week to get rid of all the fluids from surgery. Hang in there it will leave you!

Hi! I had surgery on 3/20. Sleeve to bypass revision. I have no trouble taking meds in pill form and am able to drink liquids comfortably. I see that lots of folks struggle with both. Does anyone have any insight as to why some of us are more restrictive than others?

thunderstorm reacted to lark60 in The weight creeped up on me. Time to get back on track
So I am 5 years post sleeve. I managed to get within 5 lbs of my goal and slowly slipped back into bad habits. When I went for my annual PCP appointment and saw the scales were reading 175, I almost cried. I hadn't been weighing myself over this past year due to my house flooding and all my stuff was in storage for 6 months. I realized that I had been wearing stretchy leggings and hadn't tried on a pair of jeans in a year (again everything was in storage and I bought a few comfy outfits to tide me over till the home repairs were complete) I went through my kitchen and pulled all processed foods, bread, flour, sugars, root veggies, fruits, cereals, Pasta and rice. I gave these things away to my neighbors.
I researched diets and weight gain after sleeve procedure. I have started following a modified Keto diet. I say modified because I try to keep my Protein at 80 grams a day. So basically I have replaced carbs with healthy fats. My next step back on track was to come back to this site and read the different topics.
It has been 2 weeks on my version of Keto and have lost 8 lbs! I still have problems eating enough calories and know my metabolism is slow so I eat what I can and spread a meal to be a 1/2 cup meal and 1/2 cup snack 2-3 hours later. I have found some great recipes online and have bought a few books about Keto diet. I have read up on resistant starches because I have not taken Beans out of my diet. They are my source of Fiber and some protein. Since I only eat a couple tablespoon full of beans, I am testing the theory about resistant starches by eating the beans cold. Apparently when certain foods are cooked and then cooled, the carbs crystalize and become resistant to digestion (but are great food for gut flora). I bought a new scale (my old one was lost in the flood) and have started keeping track of what I eat. Coming back to this site and writing my story will help me keep on track to getting back to my goal weight.

I know there are a few other March 27th surgeries and I would love to get to know you guys. I feel disconnected from anyone and there are a few different march threads I can’t tell which one will stick so I decided to start one for the 27th people.
My name isTracy, I live in Nashville and my next appointment for preop is March 5th. I’m excited and nervous at the same time and I will believe all of this really happened when I wake up from anesthesia and they told me my bypass is complete.
I am married with 2 kids.

Well I had my rny surgery yesterday. I have 6 incision spots and they also did a hiatal hernia repair. The gas is the worst part in my opinion but still have surgery sight pain and so they have me on pill for ohycodone every 3 hours. Dr says I can only drink 1 oz medicine cups of Water every hour. I also go diluted apple juice, chicken broth, bottled water with lemon flavor lemonad. Same rules for drinking that stuff too. Now I can smell people’s Breakfast being delivered and man it smells delish!!!!! I should be able to go home tommorw. My stats are 224 lbs day of surgery. My highest weight was 281 in 2011.

While mine was technically medically necessary, my doctor wanted me to go through their bariatric program so I can learn what life and eating like with RNY. The program was accelerated because my GERD is severe. I began middle of November and was approved 2/1. Surgery is on 3/18. It was worth the wait and I appreciate that they wanted me to be as knowledgeable as possible.

I'm 5 years post sleeve with an original loss of 100 pounds and a regain of 50 pounds. I'm getting resleeved on 4/3 due to the regain. Very excited, can't wait! My pouch stretched back out and I have little restriction now. I'm ready for my second chance at this sleeve thing

I wondered about this, but I see the results of going back to basics. Getting rid of breads and crackers and popcorn completely, and some restriction is back. Getting rid of seltzer has helped too. It's not perfect, but once I cut it out cold turkey, I craved carbs less with every passing day. If I drink enough, 2 oz. of chicken and a cup of broccoli is enough for lunch. Some days, it's just cottage cheese. Maybe you could visit your bariatric center and get some dietician support and see if it helps. Seeing some positive results and having someone to talk to may be enough. If not, s/he could support you through revision. Good luck!

I have seen several people mention gaining weight after 5yrs post-op. I too am starting to experience weight gain and no longer feel the restriction like I use to when I eat. Had anyone had the revision to help get back on track?

Hey everyone! I am scheduled to have my gastric bypass on March 19. I am trying to be as prepared as much as possible. What are somethings that you wish you would of had after surgery when you returned home or what were somethings that you were glad you thought of beforehand? I’ve already stocked up on food and Protein Drinks that I can have after surgery.

I'm 125 days post-op today and hit 60 pounds lost since surgery, 70 since I started. When I was researching, I noticed a trend of quite a few people regretting either surgery the first 1-2 months and I went through he same thing. I think it is a combination of hormone imbalance from losing the weight and the totality of surgery finally sinking in.
I went with the bypass because that is the only surgery my insurance would cover. Some days I start to feel a little regret and miss some of my past life, but I just keep reminding myself of the feelings and emotions I had to start this journey and move on. Think of surgery as a reset on life and your health. You will re-learn how and what to eat and pay for it if you make a mistake - this negative reinforcement can be a strong motivator!
My neighbor had gastric bypass 8-9 years ago and went from 340 to 160 and he is now 60 years old, Saturday night went out with some friends and ate more food in one meal then I currently eat in 5 days, so it's not like life is changed forever, just the immediate short term. With either surgery it IS very possible to eat your way back out of it, but why would you want to go through all this and not be successful? If so, then there are other issues at hand.

I chose the sleeve over bypass 4 years ago. I cannot say that is was wrong choice at that time in my life. I know WLS saved my life. Now, I am getting revised for múltiple reason including never getting to a healthy weight, GERD and a hernia plus my sleeve was never a sleeve.

I’m 2 days post op gastric bypass (sorry, not a long term success to share). I wanted to say , though, that that was my thought process too and my PA said “ listen, I’m not going to tell you what to do, I’m going to give you the facts. The bottom line is is that you have to be happy, because you’re going to keep coming back and checking in with me and I don’t want to see you with regret having chosen the sleeve and not bypass. “
Because of my history of weight gain and loss and eating disorders, bypass was the better option for me. I’m home, I spent 1 night in the hospital and have no regrets at this point in time. I knew myself well enough to know that if I got the sleeve, at some point, the chances of me regaining weight were higher than if I did the bypass. Everyone has a different experience; for me, I don’t look at dumping syndrome as a bad thing. To me it’s a tool to listen to my body and an assistant for making good choices. I went into this with a lot of information. People have complained about Calcium deficiencies, but I learned that this could be because they weren’t the taking their Vitamins. I work with a girl who doesn’t take her vitamins on the weekends, doesn’t like to exercise, drinks with a straw (no no!), makes not so great food choices, no drinks alcohol. She’s the kind of person who may, down the road, say how it didn’t work for her. I plan on being a success story.
This was my first surgery, I was petrified! I went into the operating room and fell asleep and woke up in recovery. I was nauseous for a couple of hours, but that was it. The pain was nothing worse than I would have expected. Read all of the good and bad stories, learn why some people had bad experiences, was it something they could have prevented, was it because of a previous medical condition, etc,.
The best of luck to you! You’ll make the right choice for yourself. Be honest with yourself, keep a journal, make goals to stick to, and feel free to reach out to folks because you’re not alone!

Hi March Bypass Buddies! My surgery was almost a year ago - March 5, 2018. I had GB RNY. I was nervous - didn't know what to expect, but determined to get healthy. Now, almost one year post-op, I am 5 pounds away from my goal (though if I stayed right where I am, I am perfectly happy). I have my eating under control - I work out 3 times per week (mostly toning and light weights) - I'm in a size 2 or 4 depending on the designer (from a size 20) and my hair is slowly growing back (I am wearing a topper in the new picture).
Pictures are worth 1000 words - so here you go!

Look forward to watching your journeys over the next year!
