I still feel fat after 70 pounds down. My co workers always compliment me on how skinny and good I look but I still see a fat person in the mirror and it really messed with my confidence. I didn’t take measurements. I was just tired of counting calories, weighing in, etc for over a decade that I try not to let dieting weight loss rule my life like it once did. I’m hoping once at my goal of 175 I will see myself as thin. Maybe it’s a mental thing. I don’t know but I don’t see myself as thin yet.

You know you are a bariatric person when it’s your birthday and your brother says, “I’m going to take you to Texas Roadhouse for your birthday. I’m going to buy you a $20 steak and watch you eat 50 cents worth of it!” Happened last week.

Looking back at all the encouragement that I got here when I had my surgery...I KNOW you can do it! Nerves are a good thing when having surgery because it reminds us that it is actual surgery and not just a safe routine.

Today I played my first (American) tackle football game (Stockholm Mean Machines) I am SUCH a rookie! I only got my pads 3 weeks ago and had to borrow all of them from the team and other players... BUT boy was it fun. I (now) play Offensive Right Guard and was deathly scared before the match but it turned out that our own team during practice hits much harder than our opponent. At 48 years old and about 16 months post GPB, I am soooo happy to have done this. I still have problems seeing myself at my weight though and think i'm still "fat" in my head even though everyone else sees me as somewhat of a bean poll (Im 5 foot 11). I also could only play this one game this season because I'm getting surgery on my foot which is what killed my playing sports when I was 19.
On the other hand, I was Googling around about football and weight issues since I dont want to gain weight from eating too much (like I did after injuring my foot but muscle is fine though) and I ran across this article about a very overweight somewhat famous player (that I had no idea about). A great read by the way. After reading the article, I wondered how he was doing now and saw the blurb in the middle. He had died at 38. So it just reminds me (my sister died from complications from obesity) that I truly need to keep "on the wagon".
    Still happy but cautious....

Krestel reacted to kristieshannon in No longer obese!
This morning I hit a new all time low BMI for me since I started gaining weight after my kids were born. My BMI is now 29.8 so I’m am now just overweight and no longer obese! I have 13.2 pounds left to get to my original goal, but think I’ll drop a further 5 from there to defend a 5 pound range. I’ve got PS scheduled in January, so right on track to reach my goal in October and then maintain a couple months prior to surgery. Feels soooooo good!!!

On another note, the closer I get to goal, the more people notice when I’ve dropped smaller amounts. Early on I’d get a lot of comments every 20 pounds or so. Now it’s about every 5.

Yeah, have to agree with all of the above. There are always options at every restaurant. I still eat with friends etc, but usually get a MUCH smaller plate in order to look like Im eating a normal amount. It also helps me fool myself in my head. Another thing I did recently when I was eating at a work dinner was eat what I could and then take the rest of the plate to the kitchen to get it away from me. Yeah, ppl were looking at my differently, but it was worth being able to just sit there and drink a cup of hot tea and socialize. It turns out that in the end ppl started drinking and I had a hilarious time watching them all drink. I sort of became the default designated driver and had such a fun time. So you just have to find a way through the challenge. You can do it!
Oh and considering Covid and all, you are actually helping everyone by eating at their or your home. So they might not even think it's about you at all and just a good thing to do considering the state of things.

It's normal to be panicing at a time like that. You dont know if you will be able to eat those things again and it sends ur mind into a spin. I was there too...
BUT I can tell you, that you will very likely still be able to eat those things again in the future once you've gotten past the surgery and weight loss. I still love to eat chocolate and such but have learned when I need to be careful and what I absolutely cant eat (which isnt much tbh). Even after a year after surgery, Im still learning things, but I dont feel like Im missing anything at all.
So deep breaths and dont think of it as jumping off a cliff. Cuz ur not!

All my issues have been things that ppl always told me about on this site oddly enough. I was stupid enough not to really really listen. Im still dealing with what I look like now after having lost the weight and am at a normal weight, but it's all in my head (which ppl told me) BUT you never really understand it until you get there. SO if I had one bit of advice, it would be no matter what ppl tell you and what you read, the experience will be totally soul changing...sometimes bad..but MOSTLY good. It is so worth the journey!!!!!!

I drink carbonated Water (no flavoring) with no problems. I dont drink soda pop too often only because it is too sweet now for me, but I have no issues with it as long as I drink it on an otherwise empty stomach. Probably not the best choice though...
