That is called jaundice. You may have a blocked bile duct. Definitely something going on with liver or gall bladder. You need to get in right away and be seen.

NO! Never juice again. Way too much sugar. Much better to eat the food and get the Fiber. You can put fruit into smoothies.

Get it out! A gall bladder can get infected just like an appendix. You can get very, very sick and toxic from an infected GB, which makes surgery more difficult, risky, and emergent, possibly even resulting in an open surgery vs laproscopic. You really do not want to go there. Open GB surgery used to be one of the most painful surgeries there was, with complications like pneumonia because of the long incision under the ribs which made breathing difficult. Laproscopy changed GB surgery like night and day. If you have already had multiple attacks, it is time for it to go bye-bye.

PS: My cooked cereal contains teff, amaranth, quinoa, and slivered almonds, along with soy milk, so the oat carbs are getting somewhat balanced by higher Protein grains, nuts, and soy. I would never try something like plain cream of rice. I used to have very bad reactive hypoglycemia to plain carbs in my former life, so I learned to never take carbs without protein. I shudder to think of the reaction I could have now after bypass.

I have read up on the maltodextrin in cytocarb and it seems that it causes dumping in some people. This just sounds scary to me. The RX bars seem to work, as long as I eat them in small increments and not overload my system with too many carbs at one time. On my next ride I am going to try some orange slices along with the bars.

Thanks. It took most of the day to feel recovered - this is sooo much work, but I feel I need to keep setting goals to keep myself engaged in meaningful activity. After this bike "race" (over 7,000 riders last year! with 100+ mile, 50 mile, 25 mile, and 5 mile events) (My goal is just to FINISH!), I will start swimming again, since it will be so dark when I get off work. Also starting to work on hiking segments of the AZ trail - the plan is to do the lower, hotter segments in winter, and the higher, mountainous segments in summer. Grand Canyon segments next October. Woo hoo!
And you are right about the Fluid loss through expiration! I rode a new route today with some steep, challenging hills that had me really puffing - so I think I lost a LOT on those hills!

So I will probably get a lot of kick back from this, but here it goes. Alcohol seems to be such a compromising issue for so many folks. The truth of the matter is, that NO amount of alcohol is good for you. Yes, there are antioxidants in red wine, but even very light alcohol consumption increases risk of throat, mouth, and GI cancers. Alcohol is a very strong chemical that is damaging to living tissue. Period. Think about why an alcohol swab is used on your skin before a shot. It cleans and kills. There is absolutely no reason for a bariatric patient, of all people, to drink alcohol. Yet, it is so hard to make the total break. It is the same argument I hear all the time with patients who smoke - "I just smoke 5 cigarettes a day," "I just smoke a pack every week," "I just smoke socially." When we all know that ANY amount of smoking is not good for health.
All I am saying is that if we make this huge effort to improve our health with WLS, and we are willing to make total lifestyle changes to be successful in the long run for life, why do we try to compromise and flirt with seeing how much we can get away with concerning alcohol? Is it our addictive nature? Is it social pressure? It is a bit of rebellion? I believe it is a issue that is worth exploring deeply for each person and really asking the hard questions about WHY it is so important to continue drinking at all when there is absolutely no benefit, and only harm that can result.
So fire away at me. I've said my 2 cent's worth and won't bring it up again.

As I have said before, as a GI nurse, I have seen the horrible effects of alcohol on post WLS patients - even years down the road. Those surgical tissues remain fragile and vulnerable. There is nothing like alcohol or NSAIDS to totally erode and ulcerate the tissues. The worst ulcers i have ever seen are on WLS patients who return to alcohol. It's not worth it, but if you want to play with fire, that is your choice. You may well end up with a bleeding, potentially life threatening, GI emergency. You have gone through too much for that. If you felt your life was worth having surgery for, then your life is certainly worth giving up alcohol for.

That is one of the best NSV out there. I went to Six Flags a few months ago and rode Batman. I had not been on that for over 20 years because I would not fit. I literally teared up when the ride started.

I had a HUGE NSV this weekend, I rode roller coasters without having to get off due to my size and without be smooshed into the restraints. I have worked at this park for several years and have only been able to ride a couple of the big coasters due to my size so I finally got to enjoy them for the first time since high school! Also, a fun perk of having gastric bypass, I don't get that stomach dropping feeling going down the big drops like before surgery! My daughter and I were running from coaster to coaster trying to get on as many as possible, I had so much fun!

They are pure carbs, which I fear could lead to dumping with me. I am using RX bars which have 210 calories, 24 gm carbs, but also 12 gm Protein. My hubby is also a rider, but he does the 100+ mile events, while I am just shooting for a 50. He also uses similar pure carb goo on his rides. I have been eating 1/4 - 1/3 RX bar every 6-8 miles and it seems to be working. However today I ate the last 2/3 of a bar all at once, and I got cramps in my gut and had to stop at a park restroom 30 minutes later. Soooooo...... it's all a grand experiment to see what and how much and how often to use these dense supplements. BTW, my ride was 3 hours today and besides 2 bars, I sipped down 50 oz of Water. I was 3 pounds lighter when I got back. I know that is all water loss, but gee whiz, I was drinking the whole time and my pee stayed light colored. Amazing how much Fluid is lost with activity.

I told everyone! Makes life so much easier and you don't have to deal with any questions as to why you are losing weight or eating little or need to go to the hospital for complications, etc. Plus, I ended up inspiring some people to have the surgery. Like, there is no natural way I would have lost 158lbs in less than a year. It would have been stupid obvious anyways. Like "Oh yeah, Brenda. My low-carb diet and exercise helped me lose 150lbs in 10 months." In no reality ever.

Another strategy for optimal fat burn is to do your exercise during the fasting window, if you can. When I am doing IF, I do my stair climbing, arm and leg routines in the morning, before I start eating.
