  2. Well today ended up being just a walk day... It was cold and misting and I didn't realize how windy until I turned around to come back and my car was 2 miles away :wink2: so I made better time coming back then going down My shin did start to act up but I just kept my pace steady and it worked itself out and felt pretty good by the time I was done. So I guess I will just listen to my body and just keep to the every day aspect of it
  3. Well ugh I guess I am not going to try the banana thing??? Starting myself of the high protein diet today and looked up nutrition information for a banana and boy are they full of carbs and sugars I am going to do a protein drink right before I go to the park and am going to stretch today before I start... I walk an hour so I am going to try walking the first half hour and if the shins feel good I'll do session 3 of week one on the way back to the car!!! Hoping and praying it goes well!! I would like to be to week 3 by my surgery I figure the more progress I can make the easier recovery will be and the easier it will be when I get back into it post band.... I really dont want to just give up until after the band because that is reinforcing an old habit :argh: Kim
  4. Hi Jodi!! Glad u joined us and GRATZ on the smooth approval and a date already! I am in Va also... down by Virginia Tech I am getting ready to start the liquid Protein as well I am thinking instead of one day at a time its going to go to one meal at a time well welcome and GRATZ again Kim
  5. Saw this earlier on a different post and am gonna check it out so I can have some on hand for my post op dayz New whey Protein Bullets New Whey Protein Bullets
  6. My appointment with the surgeon is on May 22nd and I will be starting my pre-op diet on the 23rd. So far I THINK this is what it will entail Full Fluids 70 grams of Protein 64 ounces of Fluid daily 800-1000 calories daily low fat 0 sugar this times 11 days prior to surgery... May 23-June 2 Surgery June 3 I am still wrapping my brain around how to do this one and going to ask about carbs as well I am starting on Slimfast high protein and Protein Bars and south beach meal for supper starting today and following that through until my appointment so we will see if that helps the transition go smoother... yikes I have heard from others at support group that if u can make it through the pre-surgery diet the surgery is cake (pun?!?!) I am scheduled to be banded on June 3rd!! I am part of a club yay
  7. hhhmmmm its funny u meantioned the bananna... I went to training for work for "handle with care" and we are up and down off the floor ALOT and use leg muscles more then usual and everyone did the banana thing before we started for the day!!! I am not one for stretching at all honestly... just start at a slow pace and make sure I do a cool down walk... it could just be that easy :welldoneclap: I am going to stretch out tonite and take a hot bath though ... my shins are still tight and all day at work today on my feet didn't really help that to much.... thanx for the input will let ya know how it goes :Banane53: Kim
  8. I have the Nike+ running shoes and they are really good I asked the sports person that I did the walking test with and she said that it could be a number of things from the change in my stride to how I come down on my foot, and that my shin muscles would toughen up and it wouldnt hurt as bad after a while... oh joy.... I guess I just need to listen to my body more when I am walking and be patient... I am sure it will be better when I am not 125 lbs over weight anymore.... still feel like that skinny person inside just wants to bust out and do things the heavy reality of me cannot do :welldoneclap: Just frustrated today I guess my shins are still tight today and its rainy so I think I am going to take Mothers day off and go back at it tomorrow.... I think I am going to try incorperating the podcast into the middle of the hour I walk and take longer to warm up and see if that doesnt help. All I can do is try I guess thanx for listening to the ramblings Kim
  9. I am amazed that so many have this pod cast. I actually started it this week and got through the first day, ok took a day off, and went to go walk/jog yesterday and my shins were killing me!!!:Dancing_wub: This is not a new thing... if I get to over zelous I get my shins to hurting and then spend the rest of my hour walking out the shin pain, at a slower pace then normal and do not get as much accomplished. It is completely frustrating because I can last the hour and be able to talk while I am walking and jogging I just can not handle the shin pain. This is what always gets me frustrated and out of my groove... I actually use the ipod and nike+ and I have a better pace and burn more claories if I just walk and pay close attention to my pace starting slow and staying steady as I increase it... Anyone know what I can do to get my shins to catch up with my progress??? Or what I can do different to get them to not start hurting ??:confused2: Just want to stay motivated and not fall into the same cycle of taking a fewe days off to let them feel better and get out of the habit of going to walk at all... :tt1: Kim
  10. Only thing I'd be scared of is in the past when I lost a large amount of weight I lost a cup size My hubby niticed I tell you but the bras did not fit the same at all!!! I was at that time small enough to fit into a bra from Victorias Secret!!! I am so looking forward to getting to shopping there once again. :frown:
  11. Well I have a pre surgery diet and so far it is looking like its as follows.. Full Fluids 70 grams of Protein 64 ounces of Fluid daily 800-1000 calories daily low fat 0 sugar this times 11 days prior to surgery... May 23-June 2 Surgery June 3 I am still wrapping my brain around how to do this one and going to ask about carbs as well
  12. Just got my date of June 3 today!! Heres to the pre-op diet :cursing:
  13. I had the same thing happen... I waited 3 weeks and after bugging the doctors office I called my insurance company only to be told that they showed no request for a surgeory for me... I proceeded to call my doctors office back and they investigated and that afternoon (tuesday) they called the insurance company and we had an approval by thursday evening!!! So now that you know that you have the ball rolling for real heres to hoping you get a speedy response
  14. Well heard from the surgeons office this morning and we are on for June 3!!! See the surgeon for final appt and to sign consent forms and to start the pre-surgery diet on May 22... I know that means I'll be on the diet for the field trip but that's ok... It will help me be BUSY and not thinking about not being able to eat And my mom is coming as a chaperone too so she will be in town still on the day of the surgeory. She is sitll asking if I am sure I want to really do this maybe being here will help ease her mind a little  Well heres to counting the days again!!!! woo hooo:thumbup:

  16. Well, the psyc dr. called today to let me know that he has talked to the bariatric coordinator and let her know that I am a suitable canditate for the lapband procedure and that we have the go ahead. So now we just have to get back on the schedule. Should hear about that in a couple of days as the surgeon is banding others all day today (Tuesday is the only day he does bands). The only thing now is I am chaperoning a field trip to New York for my daughters 8th grade field trip and we will have to wait till I get back from that as it is on the 29th of May and I would not be in any shape for a 6 hour bus ride so soon after surgery... and now I can enjoy the trip more and eat at the special restaurants (with in reason, and if we are not on the pre surgery diet, which I already know I get to look forward too). So I am back on track the snag is past us and all is good with the world for now... it will be great when I have a secure date again Thanx for all the encouragement it means ALOT!!! Kim
  17. Well I met with the doctor and he was suprised to see me. He said his intention was to make sure that counseling was available after the surgery should I need it, not to postpone the surgery. He did say that I scored (in his opinion) to low on the test he had me fill out about my food habits and was wondering if I was trying to just say what he wanted to hear, or if I was hiding something. I tried to reassure him that there are no problems with binging, I just like food, period. Yes there are times when I have eaten a meal and finished what was on my plate even though I was full, but I do not sit in my kitchen floor and eat the cabinets bare, or use food for a vice if im upset. I was honest with him about my past and growing up and he kept asking over and over if I was sure there was not anything I needed help with. I guess me not drinking because my father did, or not abusing my children because I was abused is just to weird... or its just that uncommon that the cycle is broken. But at any rate he said he would call and talk with the coordinator and she could get with the surgeon and he would call and let me know how that went. I have approved appointments with his office should I need them post-surgery, but for now I am, I believe good to go. He did not even feel like we needed to make any more appointments at this time. I am glad to be in hands of people who do not just shove people though, but on the other hand it was ackward sitting there trying to assure him that there are no hidden issues that we need to deal with. I was actually kind of worried about the psyc part of the process anyway because I was scared I'd over think things and I work in Human Services and deal with those standardized forms for mental screenings and even score them so I think that might be a small part of it as well. So I am awaiting word from the surgeons office as to when we can reschedule the surgery and get back on the road. I know that a few weeks is nothing compared to being able to have a tool that will help me get healthy and enjoy the rest of my life. Now that the emotion from the rescheduling is gone that is
  18. Well I went to my doctors appointment on Thursday excited and ready to go. The coordinator (Tammy) came in and said everything looks good, I have even lost some weight and we were going to start the pre-surgery diet tomorrow!! I was never so happy to have someone tell me I was not going to b able to eat... then The surgeon comes in and tells me that the psychologist had some concerns about how I would handle the changes post-op and there were concerns about possible binging (not to say that he is saying I have a problem with this nor is he diagnosing me with this)... this has NEVER been an issue for me and I have no idea where he is getting this but I now get to go see him for a few appointments and when he feels everything is ok we can reschedule... The surgeon was great about it he said that we could not care and go ahead and do the band and just deal with things if they came up but he wanted to know that I was ready to make such a huge life altering decision and that we were partners in a colaberation. Which is great to know that he cares but I was so stoked and felt just devistated... but managed to get home b4 i broke down and cried over it. I see the psychologist again on Monday at 10:00 so we will see what his concerns are and what other hoops I am going to have to jump through to get another surgery date. I have of course been to work and cancelled my sick leave and am waiting still somw more. More to come after Mondays appointment I guess. Thanx for listening to the rambling, Kim
  19. Wow I have done nothing all night but look through this site!! It is simply amazing, what a community of people. I copied/pasted several recipes I am going to take to the doctor tomorrow to make sure they will be ok for my post-op full liquid. Will be back in here!! U know there are so many new posts just since I signed up that it's nearly impossible to keep up, WOW
  20. My seminar was way back in the begining of March. It was a very preliminary thing. My surgeons average time from consult to surgery is 8-12 weeks. I will be right at 12 weeks but there was a 3 week lapse in there where my doctors office was waiting on the final approval for my surgery, but when I called my insurance 3 weeks later they did not show a request for surgery. So I probably could have been done around 8 weeks. But there is an end is sight now so it's all good.
  21. Hi my name is Kim, aka Huggie Bear, and I hear about this site last night at a lapband support group meeting. I am scheduled to have my surgery May 13, and can not wait!!! I look forward to getting to know people here and sharing and laughing and crying along with you. I hear I get to start the "fun" pre surgery diet here very soon, I guess I'll hear all about that tomorrow at my final appointment with my surgeon. Look forward to getting to know others Huggie Bear:thumbup:
