About Me

I am a married, 40 year old mother of 8. Most of which are grown and gone now and some have children of their own, I'm also a grandma of 8 kids. Their ages are 2 months to 10 years. My goal is to get healthy enough to keep up with and enjoy my kids and grandkids. In February this year I was diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure by my OB. My doctor at the time didn't really educate me on what either meant for me. She prescribed me some medication and sent me on my way. The medications I was given really had some harsh side effects. After a couple of months I just quit taking them. I went back to the doctor in May and told her I needed something different and that I had not been taking my meds. She gave me a new medication for... the diabetes, Victoza. This meant in addition to poking my finger twice a day that I was now going to have to give myself a shot every morning. Yikes! She gave me a couple of sample boxes of the new medication with the promise of calling in a prescription to my Walgreens. Long story short, she screwed everything up with the pharmacy and I ended up being off the meds for 3 days and had to start all over with new side effects I had just adjusted to. The only good thing that came out of that appointment was asking for a referral to see a bariatric doctor. A few days later I had my referral and had set my first (of many) appointment. On June 19 I went in and met the surgeon's RN that would be taking care of me for the next 6 months. I was weighed and had blood drawn for labs and then we discussed my medical history and diet. I had to do a psych exam, see a gastro doctor, a cardiologist, etc to get all of my clearances done. The next several visits were short and sweet. Less than 30 minutes each. I finished my 6 months appointments on Nov 5th. I had a surgery date by 11/8. I am scheduled for the gastric sleeve on 11/29/18. I'm ready for the next chapter of my life!
