ms.sss got a reaction from FluffyChix in The Maintenance Thread
I have thought about this many times myself, but hesitated to say it out loud/type it out thinking that either I did actually develop an eating disorder and don't want to admit it, or that I am being over-analytical and hypochondriac-y.
I took that test you provided a link for and I got zeros in everything except "Restrictive Eating" (2/6) and "Food Fears" (1/4). Which I sort of knew already and identified as my fear of carbs, and am currently working on it :).
I don't believe (at least right now) that my carb-avoidance behaviours are impairing my quality of life nor resulting in negative self-worth/negative body image. Honestly I think that I am all that and a bag of chips these days. At most, I sometimes worry that I should be worrying more, if that makes any sense..but because of this I am keeping an eye on myself and mental well-being, so that's a good thing.

Being on the receiving end of advice/comments/opinions from fellow bariatric patients is a lot easier to swallow/accept than from my mother-in-law

Hello all
So the last time i posted i was having anxiety about the blood work and quitting smoking. So far i have been smoke free for 3 weeks and I had the pre op testing done on friday. They said the results would be in the same day and I havent heard anything... Well that was friday but I'm going to remain positive and get through this week as calmly as possible. Oh did i mention my surgey is scheduled for next Wednesday the 26th?? Anyway im required to do a liquid diet with popsicles and boiled eggs being the only solids i can eat until surgery.. Wish me luck with that one since boiled eggs give me heart burn😡

This.
I am 7.5 months out today, and had my consult with one of those well sought after surgeons almost a month ago.
By the time my scheduled surgery comes around I will be 14 months post-op. It would have been at 17 months post-op, but I got lucky and got placed on a newly opened date.

ms.sss reacted to GradyCat in Dealing with emotional eating etc.
I have been an emotional eater all of my life . . . until I had the sleeve surgery six months ago. Now I've worked so hard at being mindful about what I'm eating and wanting so hard to lose weight that I catch myself when I have an emotional event in my life and don't give in to the cravings. I know the surgery itself helped with the physical hunger, but the impact of having undergone a major surgery must have also helped with the head hunger because I'm determined not to give in to it.

At 13 months post op and close to goal, I've also started looking into skin removal surgery. It took several months to get in for an appointment with the local specialist plastic surgeon I am keen to go with here, and their waiting list for surgery is 6 months plus.. so I didn't want to wait until after I have been weight stable 6 months before even starting to get the ball rolling. He previously specialised mostly in breast surgery, but in recent years has become really sought after for his fantastic post-weight-loss skin removal surgeries.
If you have short windows of opportunity for surgery dates, and are keen on a well sought after surgeon then give yourself plenty of time to plan your operations.
I have lost 52kg (115lb) and would love to lose up to another 9kg (20lb) to make it all the way down to "normal" BMI, however I have a fair bit of loose skin on belly, butt, upper arms and inner thighs, and my poor once very large boobs are now mostly deflated skin So I'm not sure how much more I really have to lose beyond the skin... I have a lot of upper ribs showing on my chest already at 69kg (152lb) and 157cm (5'2")

People that mean well “me included” Sometime comments that you are too thin or a post about orthorexia is not helpful. Weight loss is hard enough for you to deal with.

Please ignore this information If does not apply to your situation. (newbies and people in weight loss mode this is not for you)
Are there similarities in bariatric lifestyle and disordered eating? I had to wrap my head around this question in maintenance mode. Where do I draw the line between bariatric healthy habits “rules” and unhealthy obsession? (I’m not diagnosing anyone – Just information to think about)
Finding your balance test:

The following was copied from a website: click here
Orthorexia: The preoccupation with eating healthy. desire to consume pure, healthy foods, obsessing over maintaining a perfect diet rather than an ideal weight. They may cut out any food that is considered unhealthy or impure. Wanting to eat a healthy, pure diet can be a great thing. However, when these compulsive behaviors and mental preoccupations with healthy eating start to impair your quality of life, you may end up suffering from severe weight loss, malnutrition, or some other type of medical condition based on severe diet restrictions. If you are suffering from Orthorexia Nervosa, you may also suffer from negative self-worth, negative body image, and become obsessively dependent on your healthy eating lifestyle to the point of social isolation.

I ended up going with a surgeon who has an extensive resume in "post-bariatric body contouring". The fact that he has done so many of these types of surgeries makes me feel more at ease. I saw endless before and after pics. He was able to advise me on aspects of the different surgeries that the other 3 surgeons I consulted with did not even mention. And he was the only one who advised me of a program on how I can apply to have insurance to cover a portion of the surgeries. The others only told me that my surgery was not covered by any insurance. So yeah, I think it's a good thing to go with someone who's been around the block a few times.
I had actually already decided on another surgeon because this one didn't have a consult available until end of July. But then a space opened up and I decided to take it, and am glad I did. Going with this surgeon actually meant I had to push my date to December (his earliest opening), from my original plan of August, but I'm okay with it. I believe I'll be in better hands.

Unfortunately, it took a serious health scare (my heart stopped in ICU) and my mother and father in-law passing from cancer to take my heath seriously. I had the sleeve done June 2014. High weight 254 day of surgery 234. I’m maintaining in the 130’s.
There is no secret to bariatric weight loss. Follow your plan. Learn the basics. log in an app, hydrate, exercise/activity. If you gain call your team. Never be afraid to ask for help.

Some observations surrounding eating today, which may be hampering my efforts:
1. In an effort to get more calories in, I am eating when I am not hungry. This goes against so much of what I think I should be doing and messing with my mind. I mean I am already full (-ish)..why am I putting more food into my mouth?!?! Isn't this what got me to my pre-op weight in the first place?!?!
2. I do not like the feeling of fullness. I realize I much rather prefer the feeling of an empty (or near empty) stomach. I just spent the last 1.5 hours eating my first meal of day (albeit at my desk while doing some work) and I am definitely full. Not so full that I am in pain or need to barf, but enough that I know if I take another bite I will. Its almost as if my entire body is full (chest, arms, legs, head), not just my stomach. And I don't particularly like how it feels. I feel almost sluggish and bloated/swollen. The fact that I need to keep doing this all day, and as a consequence feel like this all day has got me bummed.
3. When I first started upping my calories, I went from an average of 600-650 to 1000. I think this may have been too fast (and contributing to my ickiness). I scheduled myself to go to 1100 tomorrow, but will wait another week instead. I'm even contemplating going back down to 850-900 for a while? What do you think, maintenance-ers?
4. (Off-tangent) For some reason, the last meal I have each day, whenever and whatever it happens to be, seems to be the easiest to get down and not feel yuck after. I wonder if there is some causal effect in there somewhere...

Last night's Dinner: Strawberry, Fig, Candied-Pistachio, Cucumber, Feta salad with a low-cal homemade Sesame Vinegrette. (the fam had it with a high-cal Honey-Lime Vinegrette, Lol)
It was a low Protein, high carb salad, but was so yum. I ate it all! (over 1.5 hours though lol)

So I only had 13 net carbs by the time my last meal of day was logged today, so I figured I would treat myself with this while we watch Game 2 (GO RAPS GO!). Still eating it, but I plan to not have any leftovers.
Meanwhile, beside me on the couch, Mr and the Kid are mowing down on chips and popcorn. I offered to make them a bowl like mine, so they didn’t need to eat all the chips, but they laughed. Geez.

Honestly no, not in one sitting at least. Though I often fix myself a salad this size thinking "Oooh yeaaaah, I could totally eat this!" Then....nope. I'll eat it all eventually....

ms.sss got a reaction from ProudGrammy in When did you reach your goal weight?
I try to get in at least one hour of some type of exercise every day.
Mostly this consists of my daily minimum 5km walk around my neighbourhood. I may go to zumba or hot yoga (but haven't gone in about a month due to a new work contract). I hate strength training (and it shows! My butt is non-existant!), so I do maybe 30-45 minutes of this per week only.
I guess I also do a handful of push ups (and some situps and squats) cuz I participate in the May challenge hosted by @GreenTealael on this forum. But that's mostly for fun for this month and not really part of my normal routine.
