I enjoy shopping in-store now. At first it was weird, because my brain was trained to go to the 2XL section and i'd go there and find out.. oh.. these are too big. Then the 1XL section, then the Large section.. wohoo!!! almost to the Medium section!!!!! I still hold something up and think: I will NEVER Get into this.. Then it try it on and I think... You GO girlfriend! Try to enjoy the journey!

    Hi guys,
I have been following this thread for a while and now I feel I should contribute. My highest weight was 308 pounds. That was right before my 2 week pre op diet. I got down to 295 day or surgery which was 09/03/2018 and as of two months post op on 11/05/2018 I have lost a total of 50 pounds and am down to 258. I am super excited I have so far lost a third of what I want to lose and am on my way to making it to goal. Also I had the RNY surgery.

Following up with this! My highest weight was 380, my weight when I started the program was 340, weight day of surgery was 302, and now I’m 3.5 months post RNY and weigh 244.

They expect I’ll make it to onderland by 6 months post-op... so I’ve got a bit of work to do!

I do work out. I do spin, boot camp, and boxing. I try to make it to at least 3 classes a week of one of those. It has really helped speed up the weight loss.

They stuck me 14 times in pre-op trying to get an IV in. Both arms - both hands and both feet had multiple sticks. My surgeon was ready for me and I still didn’t have an IV in. At one point I had 4 people at once trying to get one in!! They finally got one but it wasn’t in very good. I woke up with a different one in my left wrist! (And for a week after surgery I looked like a junky! Lol)

thats what i was thinking, the chicken was shredded, with mushy avo and lite mayo, which are all allowed in my mushy diet, so it was just the bread, which was plain white, no seeds ect and as stated no crust. it has been the only thing I ate that didnt cause issues.
    thanks for your help,

Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't responded. Just an update...I went back to my therapist on 10/30/18 and we're going to start sessions again. I used to see him pre-surgery and he specializes in eating disorders and OCD. I'm hopeful and will keep you posted. Thank you so much for all the feedback

You'll want to get yourself weaned off long before your surgery date. I think ripping the band-aid off all at once is the best route. If you totally eliminate sugars & refined carbs (yes, you have to do both at once), it will take about a week for the cravings to die off. And, I'm not going to lie to you, it is a rough week. But once you get past it, it will become much easier.

I’m a finance director. I had surgery on 10/10/18 and I go back to work this Thursday. That will be 4 weeks off. I could have gone back sooner but my surgeon recommended 4 weeks and my employer is paying me so I followed my doctor’s advice. I am looking forward to going back to work but I’m worried about being tired!

Put your health first. Your having surgery and lordy, lordy..your body is going to go through alot. So take the time you need to heal. unless of course, if you can not afford to be off work then your situation may be that you have to go back to work right away. I would not, as an employer, even want someone to return to the workforce after a few days.

    Hey Guys,

So I had my first appointment with my surgeon on Monday it went great, they set me up with all my appointments and told me if everything went well i would have my surgery by ending of October beginning November. I was super excited UNTIL today. I went to my doctors office to get some more referrals i needed and asked him for the Medically Necessity letter and he said NO. He needed to observe me for an addition 6 months. I can't believe not even my insurance is asking for that much time. Does anyone have any advice, please help.

How could I forget this one...
We were driving home from the hospital and stopped once so I could walk around in a restaurant parking lot. After opening the door, I felt like I had to vomit and try to clear something from my throat...turns out it was my uvula!!! There was so much inflammation from being intubated that it was hanging down my throat. Every time I swallowed, it felt like I swallowed my tonsil. It was a truly horrible situation for about a week. As Mr. ElectricBoogaloo took a picture of it so that I could see, he said it is kind of shaped like a penis...at the grocery store...to which I responded a little louder than I should have (read:wailed), "I don't want to continually swallow a P***S!😂

After waking up from surgery, and enduring the recovery room, I was wheeled to a non-bariatric floor because it was full. After getting situated. I decided to take it upon myself to go for a walk. Well, we all know where the gas they pump into you goes, I stopped let one rip for what seemed like 30 seconds. I then heard a voice behind me say "did someone start a lawnmower?". I was mortified and hobbled back to my room.

Some of the things I’m looking forward to....

Taking a plane ride and not needing a seatbelt extender....

Being able to ride a horse again (haven’t been able to in 20+ years)....

Keeping up with my husband when we walk.....

Buying clothes in a regular store. (I currently only buy online because I never want to go clothes shopping)....

And I think #1 - not having to look at the restaurant pictures before I select which all-inclusive resort to go to on vacation - to make sure they don’t have arms on the chairs! (Yes - I had this problem the first time I went on vacation with my husband. SO embarrassing!!)

CyndieRI reacted to CrankyMagpie in Relationship changes?
I think if they're supportive now, you won't have so many problems.
The thing to be ready for, though, is that, after surgery, you will change. I mean, you'll still be you, but you'll be a more active version of yourself, right? Your habits will change. And that could affect your relationships.
Some YouTube doctor says that you can't lose as much weight as WLS causes us to lose and not be a different person. I'm a little hesitant to believe that's entirely true. Some people become more outgoing, but do all of us make that change? I have doubts. Some people gain more confidence and are willing to stand up for themselves in relationships where they previously didn't, but do all of us do that? I don't know. That seems far-fetched to me, but time will tell.
I can say, a month out, that the friends I trusted with the knowledge of my surgery have been very supportive. One pair I'd have trusted anyway, but I had extra assurance, because I know they stayed good friends with someone else who had it. The other pair was like "Cool, can we do anything for you?" and I was like "Do you like walks?" 😁 (And we went on an epic walk.) My spouse has been amazing every step of the way, so ... that was never a worry for me.
I'm fully expecting to have some difficult roads ahead of me, with some of my other acquaintances and at least one family member. Maybe they'll surprise me and be awesome, and we will grow closer. Maybe they'll react worse than I imagine, and we'll part ways. I'm not even that stressed about it, right now, because I'm so focused on trying to build the best me I can be, you know? And I'm giving the bulk of my social attention to the friends I knew I could trust, too.
