  1. Congratulations to last weeks surgical folks, good luck to this weeks surgical success stories, and let's get to next week!!! I am ready for my turn. Although my doctor did not say I had to do a liquid diet pre op, I decided to do it anyway. (Call me crazy I know) It has been 36 hours - Yikes this is hard. I want to loss 5-10 prior to surgery, so together we drink our Protein shakes and sip our soup! Sippers unit. You are all keeping me going.
  2. I am so proud after I finish a workout. First, because I actually did it. Second, because I didn't DIE, and third because I finished it. Bonnie, nice cardiac workout - what is is resting heart rate? My resting heart rate is in the 50's and I can get it up to 150's; but I am huffin and puffin. I ususally burn 350 calories per walk/run. I wear a pulsar monitor and I really like it.
  3. I have been working out, dieting, wearing my cpap, reading everything I can get my hands on, going to the store to buy post op supplies. I am pumped. I am going with my friend tomorrow for her second fill. I am curious and she likes the support. Annestoy, I wish you the greatest success.
  4. It is from the gas CO2 used to expand your abd. cavity during surgery. The diaphragm and the shoulder share some of the same nerves - predominantly the Phrenic Nerve. The Phrenic Nerve arises on each side of the neck, from the 3rd, 4th and 5th cervical spine roots and passes downwards between the lungs and the heart to reach the diaphragm. Impulses through the nerves from the brain bring about the regular contractions of the diaphragm during breathing. When the C02 gas irritates the diaphragmatic nerves, that pain is then referred upwards through the nerve connections, eventually landing in - and aggravating - the shoulder.
  5. I hope your 2nd fill provides you with the restriction you want. Good luck.
  6. OK, I finished week one Podrunner. I think your idea about doing each session for two weeks is a great idea. Anyone suffering with shin splints? OUCH! Great job everyone. Lyn
  7. Back on track. Tough but did it. Good luck to all
  8. I did the couch to 5 k last year and ran/walked my I did run after that, but started mt couch to 5k again this am. It really works. I am ecited to see my buddies here (Renewedhope and BonnieMcC). Keep on truckin'. We will all have to run a 5k together.
  9. OK, after my last post this AM, I laced up the old running shoes strapped on the Pulsar meter and hit side walk. 6 months ago I could walk 1 mile and run 2 miles. Today I walked most of the 3 miles; but at least I did it. I did pretty good on the food (could have done better) tomorrow is another day. How did you all do today?
  10. I haven't posted lately but I read this site every night. I am excited and nervous July 16th will be here before you know it. I had a personal trainer tell me once that if you take in too FEW calories you body wll hold on to the calories and slow you weight loss. Like everything eles in life it is about balance. (easier said than done) I agree that we all have to learn our new body's requirements to losing the fat. When you exercise, what are you all doing? I use to exercise everyday. I have to admit; I haven't gotten back into the groove yet. As I write this I am getting motivated to start my walk/run routine today. I will let you all know how I did later today. Now to my eating habits as of late! I am trying to avoid the farewell to food tour. But I have to admit, I haven't been as diligent as I thought I would be at this stage. I do not have to do a two week liquid diet before sugery, but I almost wish my doctor would have told me to do it. I am not focused. I have been trying to low carb it, I have have been drinking Protein drinks, I have been trying low fat, and I have been on my farewell to food tour. YIKE!! TOO MUCH. I guess I need to pick a plan and stick with it. OK, here is what I have come up as I type my random thoughts: I will beging my daily walk/run routine. I will eat vegtable, fruit, chicken and fish in apropriate quanities for the next 5 days and then go on a self imposed liquid diet. What do you think? ( I am an extrovert and do my thinking out loud) Thanks for listening to my brain ramblings and providing any feedback. Lynn:drool:
  11. Welcome Skinny, love the name!!! I am a nurse too! Love the food tips. 15 days until my band!
  12. Barbarossa, I am self pay with Dr. Total cost $16,600.00. Love her! I went to the first information session in April 2008 and am being banded July 16, 2008. I found the process smooth and easy. If you have any questions, I will be happy to help you along the way.
  13. I noticed I am on the list two times July 15 and 16. It should be the 16th. However, if I get to lose two times as fast; I will do it twice:biggrin2:
  14. I think it is tricky sometimes to stay on track, but I really believe the key is planning ahead. For me, it is the "B.L.T"s of life (Bites, Licks, and Tastes) otherwise known as drive by snacking. And a MENU is difficult for me! It is as if some one has said you can have anyhing you want! Planning ahead is key. Sounds like you have a plan Bonnie, I think you will do great. Thanks for the sympathetic wishes.
  15. I just wrote "Ketosis Monday" on my hand. Now every time I reach for something CARB"ed", I will think of all of you and my promise! Tough spot for me this weekend: My mother-in-law passed away after a 10 year battle with Alzheimers and a stroke. bitter-sweet passing. I have the family dinners, wake, and funeral food to face. What is your challenge this weekend. Picnics? Social events? Being along? Let's identify the upcoming challenges and plan for them. OK, who is on the wagon... Lynn:thumbup: Renewedhope BonnieMcC CCM mamato3 who else?
  16. I won't detail my demise, but I too have sinned against ST. ADKINS! Darn it! I know this works' but old habit die hard. A ketosis promise for Monday; count me in.
  17. I completed the pre-op stuff today: Lab work,EKG, Cehst xray, H/P, nutrition class................... I recieved a clean bill of health and cleared for surgery. Now I just wait until July 16th. I live in Neark, we are all close. Welcome all. I know you will find this site a treasure chest. I have learned so much from these folks.
  18. My husband and I met when we were 16 and we have been married 31 years. He is treats me like a princess and am spoiled rotten! Yes, I am doing this for him but not so I look thin, but so I will be healthy and live a long life to be by his side. I guess it is for me afterall.
  19. No hoops; just a check book!! surprising it is actually cheaper if you are self pay: hopital and doctor gave me a break on the cost. All total pre exams, surgery, anesthesologist, and doctor came to $16,500.00 I have a low BMI and no comorbidities, so insurance won't pay. It is actually faster withut the insurance company involved. I went to the first information session mid-April, submitted papers to the doc; she approved it. Went to psych eval, nuritionist and sleep study (my insurance did pay for the sleep study - 2500.00) Once all the study reports were submitted, I had an appointment with the surgeon paid 175.00 at appointment time. They called the next week with a surgery date and said everything had to be paid one week prior to surgery. I called and paid over the phonw with my husbands American Express. Surgery date is July 16th. 3 months total. I am blessed to have a very supportive husband. ( he told me to say he is handsome too!! He is silly) What problems are you having?
  20. Since your sister has gone through it, you will know all the ins and outs. Are you older or younger than your sister? I hope to get to 130 by Jan 2009. I am 50 years old and as we get older we tend to lose weight slower; so it is a grand goal; but achievable.
  21. I have struggle lately because I started doing Adkins and started losing weight Great right. No because I wanted to make sure my BMI was high enough (duh!) That my doctor would still do the lap band. So my plan... today I weighed 191.3 at 5'2; my pre- op testing is tomorrow. I wil get my offical weigh-in then. Then I have about 3 week until the surgery. I will resume the adkins to loss what I can prior to the lap band. By the time I have 2 weeks of post op liquid; I hope to be 20-25 pounds lighter. By the way, I am self pay too; how about you? What's your stories?
  22. Hi, I am a low BMI (er). I check this thread often, but do not see much action. I also check seveal other threads and post there. Tomorrow is my pre-op testing. I get banded July 16th. Where are you in the process. I would love to compare notes.
  23. I didn't check in for one day and came back to 4 pages on this thread!! Great job everyone. Wstone when you are in prop holding area, explain to the pre op nurse about your vein issues; ask to have the CRNA or anesthesiologist start your IV. The pre op folks start IV all day every day; they will do their very best for you. Lots of fluids for several days before your surgery date is a good idea. I am excited and nervous too. Not about the surgery; but about the life style change. I want to be successful and do everything I can to use my new tool to it's greatest advantage, but what if.......... (fill in the blank) I have said what if so many time in my mind; I have run out of what ifs!!! We sure do have a lot of people for July; it is so nice to know you will be thinking of me and I will be thinking of all of you. Good luck everyone. You first weeker; dont forget to let us know how it goes!! Prayer for all of you every night. Lynn:closedeyes:
  24. Lalaredd, can you put me on your list. I just want to see my name there. lynlynkr July 16th. Thanks.
  25. My whole family s on Adkins and have lost 15-30 pounds each in 4 weeks. I get banded July 16th and plan to continue my low carb diet. It just works for me. If I do have some with added carbs it is a friut or vegtable. No flour, sweets. Mostly no white food. My weakness is Venti, non fat, 3 sweet'n'low latte fromm Starbucks. Please Don't make me say NO!!! I gave up the ultimate favorite ICE CREAM. I am glad to know there are other low carb bandsters out there. We had a cook out yesterday and it was mostly meat with a side of meat! Very funny, but nice that the whole family is involved. It is like a little support group. However, my two sister in laws (not on a diet and needs to be) came over to our house. I told them I was scheduled a my lap band surgery on July 16. VERY disapproving. I have been very open about my surgery and have not run in to anyone who SAID negative comments. My one sister-in-law said "OH, Lynda, I hope you have a strong heart you know people die." I am sure that was suppose to be a CARING warning, but it wasn't recieved that way. Oh well, when I am a size 6 and running 5k's; not only will I be thin, I will have an even healthier heart. Low carb, Lap band, and a kick ass attitude; look out world, here we come!
