First off, you don't know the surrounding circumstances to the patient that didn't get the meds. We all go through a pre-op screening, if that patient was flagged for previous abuse issues, that would be just 1 reason why they would not be given opioids.
As someone in the medical field myself, there are a few issues here. That nurse disclosing another patients care, pain and prescriptions is a major violation of their HIPAA rights. There is no way to know or verify without reviewing that patients medical chart to know if there were other reasons why they were not given opioids. There are quite a few reasons why someone would not be prescribed opioids.

This whole ordeal is hearsay and rumor spread illegally about another patients private, protected information.

I wouldn’t listen to any gossip coming from a nurse that would openly discuss another patients medication with you. Sounds like she just likes stirring up trouble and is beyond unprofessional

I was given a script for all my pre-op / post meds at the same time. I was given Tylenol and it worked just fine. I think I took 1 post op for a Migraine vs. post op pain.

I know everyone is different, but I also believe some people have to know what they are taking and if it’s not an opioid they complain of excess pain. NOTE: I said “some” people. This is not the majority

Having my gallbladder out was a breeze. I was only in hospital overnight and back to work after about 4 days. Once it was gone I had no more pain or nausea (I too got nausea from EVERYTHING I ate, not just fatty stuff). Good luck with it.

Thank you. I'm not sure about whether it's harder or easier. I never really thought about it. They both inherited their paternal genes though. Blondes with very strong Nordic appearance. And thin. My daughter weighs about 105 lb and she's 5' 4". My son was 5' 11" and weighed about 160 soaking wet. Me? Short with dark hair and blue eyes and freckles - very Irish looking.

I'm the youngest in my family. Now I look like my older sister! There's something to be said for facial fat - it really smooths out those fine (ok, deep) wrinkles and lines
That could be my daughter. She is so much like her father's side of the family it's unreal. Her brother (2 years younger) looked so much like her people used to ask if they were twins. I have a photo of him from about 2 weeks before he died and he looks exactly like his father did at age 20. Clearly my family's genes were the weaker genes.

You can do it. Your Mom knew it. Your Dad knows it. We do too.
Find the very very very best alternatives you can. If you find yourself reaching for Cookies, try to make sure they are Protein cookies, when you begin to eat a more regular diet again, try to make sure it's whole foods.
Make this work in your favor. Hack your lifestyle. Learn to love things that will get you to your goals faster and easier like sometimes walk up stairs instead of taking the elevator, lettuce wraps sometimes instead of bread.
You totally can do it!!! Long term!!! Sustainably!!! We believe in you.
Also please take some time to properly grieve, consider counseling/support groups and my condolences to you and your family for your loss.

One of the volunteers in the hospital I work at kept saying "Oh, you've lost weight". I don't know this woman and I don't comment on her weight - or anything else about her general appearance. One day last week she said the same thing "Oh, have you lost more weight? You must be doing something right". So I turned to her and said back, "Oh, it looks like you've gained a few kilos". Yes, it's a bitchy answer, but my appearance is nobody's business to comment on. Just like I would never say anything to Quasimodo about the lump on his back I don't expect acquaintances to comment on my obesity.
Moral of the story is my weight loss is none of their business. I'm honest with people who I know when they ask how I've lost the weight, but as for the questions of whether I'll lose more and telling me not to? That's crossing the line IMO.

I think that whenever YOU decide you have reached your goal is entirely your business. No one looking over your shoulder when you are on the scale and it is just a number. And, you are right, if you are below your original goal by 5-10 pounds it will not be noticeable to others and really none of their business anyway. I think you will easily lose below your original goal and you will need to decide where you look and feel the best.
I hope you are taking periodic pictures to help you decide where you look and feel best and no one (except maybe your husband) should weigh in and give an opinion. I do think as we women get older being too thin does age us and look unattractive but it varies from person to person. The most important thing, in my opinion, is that you feel good about your appearance and are healthy.

MMME reacted to FluffyChix in Please help me, I have terrible regret RNY
I never had regret, but know many people who went through that stage. I was so ready to get healthy and to lose the weight by the time I made the decision for surgery, that there was no going back.
I honestly believe that mindset is one of the make-or-breaks for post-surgery outcomes/regrets. If you expect things to be bad and miserable, they usually will be. If you go in set on having no difficulties or no insurmountable issues, then things will go much more smoothly. That was my case. I have had very very very minor issues. Nothing insurmountable. And I'm thankful every day for the blessing this surgery has been to my life.
I feel like I have my life back! I feel like I am in control of my future, rather than being slung here and there by disease--as a victim without power.
I told VERY few people--immediate family only. They are all supportive. The others just think I've lost weight and look fantastic now. I get support from Facebook and from BP and MFP. I also get support from my family...but I try not to burden them with the narcissistic obsessiveness that is early pre and post WLS. LOL. BP gets most of that! LOL.
Regret is a phase. Look at it as there is no way through but forward now. Drink TONS of liquids. And understand that the emotional rollercoaster that happens WILL pass and things WILL get better. It has for almost 99% of the people who have this surgery. A year from now, you will be a completely different person and will be so glad you had this opportunity. Congrats on going through with it!!!

This is the problem with seeking validation from strangers to decide if you are making the right decision for your health. If you had doubts about following through with surgery you should have discussed with your surgical team or if you were not mentally prepared then it was not the right time for you to follow through with it.
Of your only negative side effect so far from your surgery is fear regarding what has happened to others, stop reading about it. You don’t know these people. You don’t know what their diets were. You don’t know if they are compliant with their Vitamin regimen or not. You do not know if they are regularly following up with the appropriate medical providers, or if they waited until there was a problem to see someone.
Stop reading the negative crap and put yourself in a positive frame of mind.
No one is going to do a complicated reversal procedure unless you are deathly ill, and regret is not a life threatening emergency. You are an adult that made a decision, now pull yourself up and remember why you wanted this.
I hope you find the inner peace you need to enjoy your journey with no regrets, truly.

Absolutely do not do the letting carbonated Water go flat thing - that is a slippery slope.
And you shouldn't have unsweet tea. It has caffeine in it, still, which is dehydrating. And lemon is very acidic and irritating. Also, I am 5 weeks out and still can't have Powerade Zero because of the citric acid in it. Irritates my stomach.
Try MIO flavor enhancers or sugar free koolaid packets if you need something other than water. Or broths.
I had a severe issue with things feeling stuck/painful. They just did an endoscopy and I had an ulcer. You could also have a stricture. That wouldn't show up in a CT. You should have an endoscopy done. Vomiting is not normal.

Today, only 10 weeks post op I have hit the 1/2 way mark to my goal. 20 kg down, 20 to go. I'm really hoping to have it gone by April 2019 as I'm going to meet my sister in Morocco and I'd like to be able to do everything we want to do. Bypass has been one of the best decisions I've made.

Me too! I just had my pre-op appt today. I'm scheduled for December 10th. Hubby not on board but willing to care for me. I'm so down tonight because he ruined my excitement. I'm 318 bmi 52. I'm down from my initial weight of 336 without dieting. I'm scared but happy because I too should have done this a long time ago. I'm 32, working full time while in college. I need group support like you ladies! Keep up the positive posts!
