  1. I didn’t run into the issue until post-op but I can’t have dairy at all. It’s not lactose intolerance, it’s got to be the dairy protein and it sucks! It might be that, then again it could just be the protein powder. They never made me feel great. Is your protein weight protein isolate? I think it’s theeasiest to digest. I would definitely call the nutritionist, they deal with these things all the time.
  2. I am 3.5 weeks post op and I just started being able to tolerate food and even protein shakes. I can only eat a couple of tablespoons at a time and I definitely experienced many rough nights after eating. I would limit your self to a few bites of protein. I still struggle with chicken— fish goes down much easier. I started eating Tums after each meal (my doc prescribed this) and popping Gas-x.
  3. @chellnc I’m sorry this is happening, it sounds difficult. when I left the hospital they had a nursing company come check on me. they asked if I needed an aid (I have one arm). I wonder if that’s something that your surgeon can prescribe for you? It would be tough to move around on your own soon after surgery, but if you need to do it, you will get through it! You’ll need to sort out pillows/wedges and how to get up from sitting and lying down!
  4. I had my RnY surgery on 7/24 and all of a sudden I feel hungry all the time. Some of it is “head hunger” because I’m bored or I miss eating but I really feel hungry all the time. Is there anybody else who feels this way?

    July Gastric Bypass?

Poppy girl: I had mine on 7/24 and I also have been struggling to eat. Everything makes me bloat and cramp and hurt— it’s awful. Trying to focus on shakes, I guess?! Maybe you should call your doc and ask if they had advice. I went in today and the NP told me to start my day with omeprezol or something like that. I also started taking tums all day and that’s helping a little?

    Non sweet protein

I’m so with you— I can’t stand the protein shake options. I was doing broth with unflavored protein, but I get burnt out on that fast— but good with add ins like garlic and ginger too. My favorite thing right now is low fat Greek yogurt with unflavored protein and a giant shake of TJ’s everything but the bagel seasoning (though I’m not sure it’s completely ok because it has poppy seeds and sesame seeds in it), za’atar or just salt and pepper. The cream of tomato soup from BariatricPal pal is super yummy though I haven’t asked the nut about it. I got the variety pack of soups and I enjoy them, but they aren’t whey protein isolate. Pre-op I was a big fan of the Syntrax Nectars Fuzzy Navel and Grapefruit that I made with 30 oz of water and a ton of ice cubes. Now, it will take me all day to drink that and it isn’t the same without a straw! Still, they are decent with less water! The only RTD protein shake I really can stand is Iconic Protein in chocolate. It doesn’t taste artificial or very sweet (they have a Golden milk option that sounds good, and coffee but I can’t have caffeine)

    Depression and anxiety

I am 3 weeks post op and now taking capsules again. I am Shocked that they told you to go without lithium! That’s absurd especially since I imagine Lithium Comes in a billion forms. You need to get back On the meds any way you can. Please call the office. They can call in a script for you. I had tablets of one med and I cut them In tic tac sized pieces with a pull cutter from CVS 3 times a day when I first got home.
  8. I burp constantly too. I hope this goes away!
  9. @ellie123 I’m sorry you have been through so much! The shame is the worst part of all of this. I can’t comment on a sleeve to RnY revision, but having just done the RnY I can tell you that you will NOT be hungry. You will not struggle with the post surgical diet because you will NOT feel like eating! I have had a rough recovery to be sure, but the recovery from this surgery is a lot more intense than the sleeve. I went on purée at 2 weeks, and I was excited to eat again but sadly can only stomach Greek yogurt and soft boiled eggs so far!! There’s serious negative feedback if you eat too fast or too much. You might want to look into Overeater’s Anonymous if you want additional support with changing eating habits. There’s a lot of intelligent folks there who totally get it.
  10. So, what’s the difference between taking a bite of chicken and chewing it until it’s a paste and taking this chicken and running it through the food processor? I feel like it’s silly to purée this stuff when I can just chew it a million times...

    July Gastric Bypass?

Did anyone else feel really sick on the pre-op diet? Mine is 5 shakes up to 2 cups non starchy veggies, no added fat.... there have been a couple of days I’ve felt OK— but most of the time I’ve felt lethargic and at times light headed and aches. I keep fantasizing about food and it’s freaking me out— also that if I can’t handle this how am I going to handle the next 3 months?!! I know there’s things to work through and I’m committed to working through my food issues but UGHH!
