Struggling
Are you passing gas, have you had a BM? If I'm bloated (gassy) I will weigh more. Also if you haven't had a BM that could be some of your issue. Consider taking some Milk of Magnesia (approved by your Dr., of course). My post-op paperwork is contradictory, but before I was discharged and on my surgery follow up call from the Nurse I was reminded that the most important thing to do right now is get your fluids in. Protein is important, but not as important as remaining hydrated. I like you am struggling with liquids. But what seems to work is homemade chicken bone broth (heavy on protein) and good source of water too. I haven't tried warm tea yet, but that will be my next go to on the liquid front to hopefully add some extra liquids into my routine. Good luck to you and remember you have a whole team of experts and supporters here to help.

Thrill Seekers
I'm only 1 week post-op (VSG) but I'm curious to know how many of you are thrill seekers and how long after your surgery did you venture back to the land of roller coasters and amusement park rides? I know this sounds crazy but I swear when I move these days I can feel my insides move right along with me. But, I'm dying to get back out there and ride some rides. We have a big vacation planned for October and heading to Universal Studios, and hoping the rides will be doable. We also hold season tickets to a local park which I would love to use sooner rather than later. I should mention that 1 week post op, I get a little motion sick driving myself 30-minutes to work (first day back to work too). I'm sure it's all in the healing, but hope it goes away soon.

Liquid diet tips
Which premier clear are you using? I but the tropical punch and even before surgery it was going down like a brick. I hate to make such a big investment in the product only to find the other flavors are hitting me the same way

Does my pouch need stretched by the dr?
I was just rereading my paperwork last night and I read that 1/4 cup for the first three months is pretty normal, then move to 1/3 cup. I think just don't over do it, listen to your body it knows best.

Why is water painful?
it took me a few days before my body would allow me water of any sort also. Just try a little every day.

OCD Planning
Like you, I am definitely a planner. I made sure to try all the premier protein shakes, buy enough of everything to get me through my first two weeks post op (I'm 1 week post currently) and my words of advice are simple. Don't spend a lot of money. Everything I liked prior to surgery, I am struggling with post. Nothing tastes the same and it was days before that changed, but even more so - I suddenly can't tolerate anything cold or even room temperature. So, the only thing working for me in homemade bone broth soup. I can sip and it doesn't bother me and sit in me like a brick. Popsicles are just now becoming a friend and jello is squish around in my mouth until it becomes warm liquid. Try things, but don't go overboard in the purchasing. - I read someone's post that said similar but I didn't listen. Oh how I wish I did. The good news is that most of the stuff has a long shelf life, so it will be there as I go through many of my new stages with food reintroduction.

I have 2 fears
I received this patch for my surgery. Wasn't expecting it as I don't have issues. But I'll say it worked great. The only down side, it messed with my near vision. I felt like an old lady having to increase the font size on my phone to see / read anything. And it was a good day and half after removing it that my vision finally corrected. But nausea I did not have.

Diet Preachers
You are absolutely correct. No one diet is right or wrong. As a firm believer in Keto (for myself) it did not work 100% on me. But what I did learn from it was that my body is very much gluten intolerant and my body starves for proteins and veggies. The overall problem for me and why it didn't work was I not only have Uterine Fibroids but I also have Hypothyroidism. What works for one condition is counter-conductive to the other. Meat proteins and estrogen grow fibroids. A plant based diet is not good for hypothyroidism. It was a lose-lose situation for me. Hence the final decision to have the surgery. I'm hoping my new stomach will serve a vessel that will nourish my body and continue to teach me what works and doesn't work all the while losing the weight I've been struggling with.

Time for surgery
My surgery was on the 20th. I was initially told to be there at 530 a.m. for a 730 a.m. surgery. However the Friday before I got a call and was told to be there at 430 a.m. - It's a safe bet that they will call a day in advance if anything has changed.

Plateau of week one
Yes, it's from all the fluids and CO2 they give you. Once you pass your surgery gas and have your first BM you'll start noticing the change. Do not get discouraged, and remember the weight did not appear in one day, it won't be gone in one either.

Ok so is there a time limit on when you can fly after surgery?
With the VSG, I was told two weeks. But I would check with your surgeon.

August 2018 sleeve surgery!!
I'm 6 days out (8/20) and I experience that pain when I drink cool liquids. When it happens, I start walking right away and try to form a burp, seems to help. So far warm liquids is the only thing truly tolerable.

Irregular menstruation after gastric sleeve surgery
Thanks for this post... mine started 2 days b4 surgery (8/20) and it's still going on. I'm hoping it's just the stress of the surgery and everything as this is the longest it's lasted in 10 years.

Keto Rash
I have strange rashes at times and my derm actually suggested washing my body with dandruff shampoo 1 - 2 times per week. It works, rash gone.

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion

5 Weeks post-op, what can I do to stave off hair loss?
My Dr., PA, NUT and nearly every other medical professional has recommended biotin and an increase in protein. I started biotin early this year with my Keto diet and my hair has never been more healthy. It is going to remain my go to until someone medically tells me not to.

When did you start losing hair?
Yes. They can be a contributing factor to hair loss

Bowels after surgery
Because there is no fiber and basically cleaning out the residue of what's left over

Unexpectedly needing to care for yourself after surgery?
I cared for myself this week. It wasn't terrible. Honestly the only help I needed was having someone rub my back to help with burping

Vitamin Patches
My Nutritionist said no directly post op, but I would be able to consider them about 6 months post op. (4 days post op now)

What does a protein shake feel like after sleeve?
I am 4 days post op and today is the first day that my protein shake is going down easy. I can still feel the cool liquid flow down through my esophagus but it gets better and easier each day

August bypassers/sleevers
I am now 3 days post op and cut myself off of all pain meds on day 1 at discharge. I feel tightness near the incision where stomach was pulled through, but each day it has been less and less painful. I'm struggling with protein / water intake. I haven't found a comfortable temperature for swallowing. Right now I feel everything I swallow. Gas pains are easing up, my sense of smell has heightened, I smell everything...I am still quite swollen, but getting up / down is getting more easy

Waking up in pain after surgery
I had surgery Monday. When I awoke, I wasn't in pain, but they gave me plenty of meds pre-op. The worst is the port where they pull your stomach through. I have tightness and low to moderate pain (maybe a 3) the has pains haven't been bad either. I was released at noon yesterday and haven't touched tylenol or the prescribed meds. I've had some difficulty breathing, taking nice deep breaths, but they give you breathing treatments and a spirometer to get your lunch capacity and breathing. Useit, it helps with the post op coughs and sneezes. ,
