It's kind of crazy how quickly we feel full, isn't it?? Hard to believe!

I needed my 650mg Tylenol every 4 hours around the clock for the first 3-4 days. After that, I started sleeping longer - maybe 6 hours or so and wouldn't wake up from pain. I used my abdominal binder, an ice pack, an anti-cramping medication called hycosamine (prescription) and lots of walking to help with pain. I had zero gas pain for which I am eternally grateful. I thought recovery was very similar to recovery from giving birth where every day is appreciably improved. I had a fair amount of fatigue and took 2 naps a day for the first week, then reduced to one daily nap, then just a rest in the afternoon. My first 3 weeks back to work, I did NOthing after work other than my exercise, food prep and personal hygiene. NO extra energy. All best wishes to you!

Kind of a funny story. A friend had to chuckle, thinking I was the epitome of "Minnesota Nice" when he heard about the pre-op diet's purpose of shrinking the liver to get it out of the surgeon's way. He assumed this was me personally making this decision out of courtesy and thoughtfulness to the surgeon, not something to reduce potential complications.

I'm also 5' 5". I set my goal at 150, but in all honesty, I will be thrilled with anything 170 or below. I set my goal at 150 because that's a BMI below 25 (or right at 25, I forget). I think more important is how do you feel and what can you reasonably maintain. Sometimes people can look gaunt at a supposedly healthy BMI. I think a lot of it depends on your frame and body composition (fat vs muscle). Congratulations!

I would think that is plenty of time. I had 3 weeks off. I was tired my first 3 weeks back to work, but I managed it by only doing the bare necessities outside of work those first 3 weeks back to work and of course getting a good night's sleep every night.

I think that is normal. My joke was that first I was an infant with 2 naps per day. Then I was a toddler with one afternoon nap per day. Then I was a preschooler with just an afternoon rest. My first 3 weeks back to work I was so tired ( and that was after a 3 week leave) that I did NOTHING outside of go to work, eat, exercise, and personal hygiene on work days. After that, my energy has returned to normal. Except for last week I was tired for about 4 days. Most of the time I'm fine now. Please give yourself time to heal. It doesn't help being on a clear liquid diet either. When your intake expands that helps with energy too.

I would agree with Bariatric Hero that it's important that you like your surgeon. I think it could affect your recovery. You don't see him or her all that much, but having a bad vibe...ugh! You are VERY vulnerable during surgery! I could have hugged my surgeon when he told me his views about how determined patients are who keep trying to lose weight despite the lack of long term success, that they are the MOST determined in light of continuing to try despite proof that it doesn't work. Our scheduled consult time was 40 minutes, but I could have picked his brain for longer than the 75 minutes he seemed to happily spend with me. He shared a lot about the most recent research which was informative and thought provoking. I had a list of questions prepared prior to my consult. Good luck!

Yowza! My eyebrows are light in color, so most days I use a product like mascara to darken them up a bit. If I lost them, that would really be something! I'd be calling my clinic, I think.

I can't imagine any medical professional using anything but titanium for a body part. I would expect anything less inert would corrode with all the stomach acid. Aluminum would be too soft I would think. Here's what I found online: "
Staples are usually made of Titanium. Human body does not respond to this metal, that's why most of the prosthetic organs are also from this metal.
They do not disolve, also they don't set off metal detectors and are ok to go through MRI. Therefore very safe.
The body heals over them after 4-6 weeks...

Ugh! Sugar addiction is the worst! I have struggled SO MUCH with this! Prior to surgery, for about a year I had made a "No desserts" policy for myself. (with the exception of a piece of pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving!) I just could NOT eat sweets and Desserts in any sort of normal way. Everyone's solution is different. I have started to have very small servings of dessert the past 2-3 weeks. I have had a few bites of ice cream mainly. I discovered how horrible cake made me feel! Oy! I had half of a wafer of one side of an Oreo thin (not the inside stuff). One day I had a few M and M's. I dunno...I'm thinking about whether I should continue to stick to my no sweets policy (or re-commit at this point!) or if I should see if I can do sweets in moderation post surgery.

I would be curious about what is behind eating more than your probably should...Are you hungry? Is it emotional eating? Are you craving certain foods? Whatever the problem, I would try to find a different solution. Hunger, in my experience, has usually meant I need to get more Protein or Water. Emotional eating means I need to use different tools other than food to help me with whatevr uncomfortable emotion I'm having. Usually I can distract myself from cravings. Your answers will be unique to you, but feel free to brainstorm here if that's helpful! I came to this forum for help about eating too much when eating out. SO MUCH experience with everyone here. It's really helpful, and I hope you are able to figure out this challenge, acuttita.

Hardest part: realizing that getting thinner doesn't solve all my problems. Does it help? yes...my health is SO much better! But there are more issues that need to be addressed that were easy to ignore when the weight was always the priority.
Figuring out healthy coping mechanisms. Recognizing and avoiding a return of bad eating behaviors. This is the real work as the honeymoon ends and real life continues.
There will always be rough Patches. Finding your way through them without food to lean on....has some tricky spots.

Softer meat helps or even canned chicken. I find ground turkey is best for me

But yea it’s weird if you’re eating more dense meats or grilled chicken etc

This board is full of people that surpass the averages. Fingers crossed that we can join them, Fluff. I like to have a solid, realistic goal.. and when I get there, then move the bar lower. Who knows.. maybe we'll be thrilled with 170 or 180! Lol.
What I don't want to do is convince myself that 150 will come easily, then beat myself up if I don't get there.
Keep in mind, the nadir weights on that chart are at 28 months postop on average.. so weight can continue coming off for well over a year postop.

I am gonna be one pissed puppy if I go into surgery, rearrange my innerds, and only come out of this dance at 172-173lbs.
    I used 287 x .6 = 172.2lbs. Grrrrr! *grumpy*
So if I'm extra diligent can I do better than this chart?
