I will still be 61 when I have my RNY March 17th, just a few days before my birthday. The skin and boobies issues are things I'm not looking forward to though...

When I got near goal with 100 pound loss, I had pretty bad turkey neck, really saggy underarms, very droopy inner thighs, and a pretty saggy belly. With time, however, (6 months past that time), things have tightened up a lot, and I am 63 years old - not a young chickie with good collagen and elasticity. I was seriously thinking of arm and tummy work, but I cannot imagine it now. Like the above poster, my tummy looseness is very easy to hide and I look fabulous in my bicycle shorts!. My neck is not as saggy. Neither are the thighs or arms. The only hopeless cause are the boobs, and I can easily compensate with a bra. It's not like I'm a swimsuit model and have to show it all off.
My advice is to give it a year after reaching goal. Don't rush into plastics. It's a big deal - serious surgery and expensive to boot. So make sure you really want and need to take that plunge. Big kudoos to those who have done it - they look great! But I suggest giving it time. You are going to have a period where you think your new body is horrible and ugly, with all the new sags and bags. You will want to jump into surgery and make it all better. But if you give yourself some time to adjust mentally, you will start to love and appreciate the new body you have been given, and all it is capable of doing for you. That is the time to decide about plastics - not when you are in the stage of feeling ugly and embarrassed.

This is exactly why I'm not going to tell my bestfriend either, people tell two other people and so on and such. I had a procedure in August and she told her mom and cousin, the cousin told her mom and who asked me at Thanksgiving in front of everyone if I'm doing better because they were praying for me and were going to mobilize the team together to help me out... I appreciate the support, but I'm very private and that's very overwhelming for me. I'd be livid if my wls information was handled so freely and without concern about my feelings.

I wanted to keep mine private and just told immediate family and a couple of close friends. But what I find is they told two friends and so on.....even though I asked them not to! It gets hard because people notice and ask questions and people cave and spill the beans! 😂

chattycat reacted to Missouri-Lee's Summit in Im sure hundreds have felt this way BUT MY BOOBS ARE GONE!
I'm too old and too "done" with trying to be anything other than healthier. My boobs are deflated and saggy to China. My bowels still seem to have very little holding power. I've lost track of the number of times I've left a feces trail to the bathroom or lost my load right on the kitchen floor. It's as if my bowel muscles don't exist or all the rejiggering has shortened my "holding tank". I'd love for someone to explain the anatomical changes with my bowels. After one year, leaking is still a problem. And the smell. It's nothing like I've ever smelled. It's almost like it's not fully processed and comes out before the necessary flora or enzymes have had a chance to break things down. Bleach is a necessary standby. I feel like an incontinent old dog or something. It's humiliating. Should I consider wearing a diaper when I go out? I now keep a big pan under my bed so if I can't get to the bathroom in time (or it's occupied) I have a place to go other than the floor at my feet. It's a feeling like know other. I can relate to other people now, like my mother with dementia, who has her fair share of accidents. The shame I feel is hard to get past. I've started seeing a therapist. Amazingly, she has a history of her own... a mini-bypass sixteen years ago. It's nice to have someone understand my continuing body dysphoria, my bowel leaking, boob disappearance, etc.-- that on top of everything else going on. It's actually the "everything else" that creates the most distress in my life but I try to tell myself that we all have mountains of stress (just different circumstances) and I can get through this and more and be a stronger person for it. Anyway, I'm trying my best.
This site is the one place for me to continue venting, even after one year. It's a place of peace and non-judgmental acceptance. I don't know how many times (particularly in the beginning before and right after my surgery) when someone like Matt Z, AlteredRealty, Frust8, GreenTealael, FluffyChix and many others... who came to my rescue with good advice and much-needed empathy. I've needed you all less as time goes by, but when I do need someone... someone is always here. That is a feeling that has no monetary value. This site is invaluable to many of us for so many reasons. Thank you to all who have cared about me or helped me selflessly in big and small ways.

chattycat reacted to Frustr8 in Anyone else hiccup when they are full?
No I just hiccup almost every time just before I vomit, so my fullness symbol would have to be something else. Truthfully I don't think I have had a true fullness signal in the 9 months, one where I stop eating and all is well with me! That's why I still am intimidated enough to never try things with much form to them. Tried to discuss this with Roy, my dietician. He like everyone else didn't listen. Kep telling me how wonderful I looked, how well HE THOUGHT I was doing. It's like drowning in a lake, calling for help and the only person with a life jacket is persisting in talking about how lovely the sunlight looks shining on the Water. Will it take me passing out or getting my blood chemistries out of whack before someone does listen?
I want to do things right, but fearful of swallowing and having it regurgitate again.

I feel the same, I feel I can eat more and don’t get that really full feeling, but watched a video where Dr Vuong says, don’t chase the restriction ! So I just try to follow my portion guidelines and never get stuffed but am satisfied.

I literally watch this YouTube from Dr. Weiner every month. I want it to be a constant reminder of the myth of "restriction and malabsorption" or as I say, "everything in moderation" and instead focus on developing ongoing relationships and desire for deeply nutritious foods!

Hello, 10 months post op RNY and have lost 78 lbs since surgery and 95 since starting program. Things have definitely slowed down but then again I am closer to goal so makes sense. I started this journey at 61 so expected to be a slower loser! I have been dieting since I was 12 and was never able to sustain any weight loss so I am still cautiously optimistic! Hoping I can be successful at maintaining too! I am noticing my neck getting loose skin if anybody knows of a good firming cream! 😁
