Heck all birth control has risks, NuvaRing had lawsuits as well as the Ortho Evra skin patch and the birth control skin implant. Then folks complain about the depo shot making them fat, or forgetting to take their pills. I hope you are able to find something that works for you. The only way you are going to find what works for you is by picking one and trying it out. They all have their lawsuits and adverse reactions at the end of the day. I had Implanon for a year and only took it out because it made my period come more often than it was supposed to and HEAVIER. I have the Mirena now and haven’t had anything major happen other than a little discomfort the 1st week of insertion and light, irregular periods.

I have had many major surgeries in the U.S. and abroad and have never been instructed to give myself shots for clot prevention due to venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk. While in the hospital I wore special inflatable stockings (intermittent pneumatic compression) and was told to walk frequently.

Updating because I said I would.
Just had my 6 month labs drawn and everything is still in the "normal" range. My D is back up thanks to additional supplementation, a few other minimal changes, but nothing more than a few points up or down. Interpret that as you wish.

Because I had trouble tolerating everything, my doctor put me on completely dissolvable children's Vitamins, and I simply took twice the recommended dose. It worked just fine for me, I simply mixed them into my drink!

Well, I'm not sure what your profession is, but when my surgeon has labs drawn and then tells me that the levels she is seeing show that the Patches are working... I'm going to take her word for it. Not trying to be argumentative, but... I'll take the professionals word for it.

As I've stated. When all the medical professionals are telling me that they are working and my levels are good because of what I'm using, that's what I'm going to go with. Your personal feelings about the subject aside... my test results are showing they are working, not sure why you feel me telling folks the truth of what I'm personally dealing with is "misleading". I've never said they work when they aren't, I never misrepresented any of what I'm posting. Everything I'm posting is exactly what I'm doing, dealing with and what's being reported to me by several medical professionals. If I had any reason to believe otherwise, you can bet that I'd be skeptical. And I was skeptical going into the patches... but 6 months post op, 7 months from starting the Patches, and not having any additional vitamin supplementation happening before my revision... not sure why you refuse to believe the truth of my situation.

I am a week post op - surgery 8/22 - and just now able to write about this.
There were some unforeseen complications ... among other things, a huge hiatal hernia so large, they couldn’t see it on the endoscopy... a stomach too thick for the regular stapler, requiring a larger port and larger stapler. Surgery lasted more than 90 minutes longer than the original range. (My poor wife was freaked out.)
When I woke, I was in a lot of pain. The recovery room nurse seemed to think that asking for something for the pain was a clear indication I was an opiate addict.
It wasn’t until I got to my room that I learned that I was in the first week of a new protocol 1) no longer using morphine post-op and 2) trying to limit pain meds across the board.
After about 8 hours my surgeon came to check on me, and he ordered morphine. The nurse gave it to me once, and then told me they were cutting back. The next morning, When I told the attending that nothing was getting in front of the pain and that they had cut off the morphine, she said that wasn’t the case. That is how that went for the four days I was in the hospital. Always with the subtle implication that, if I was asking for pain meds, I was probably an addict.
I didn’t feel like the floor nurses had any idea that the surgery was longer and harder and more invasive, and I felt any attempt to explain to them would come across as rationalization. All in all, pain control was not at the top of the list during this hospital stay.
Yesterday I went to my 1 week follow up with the surgeon. On discharge, I had been given an Rx for 15 Oxycodone for “breakthrough pain” - though no one explained what that was - and 30 Tramadol. The doctor’s nurse asked me how many of each I had taken, and if I had brought them with me, so she could count! When I said I hadn’t, she LITERALLY tsked!
Is this Universal now? I’m sure I could have handled this better, but I was in pain, and I didn’t. But soon I’m going to get a patient survey.

Prayer request. ellie123, send us a message that she was in extreme pain, last night she had to go to the ER, where they run a CT scan and told her she had a Partial obstruction and internal swelling. They gave her morphine and pain never stop. Today she is still in extreme pain, nauseous and vomiting. She was admitted at the Bariatric Hospital for tonight. I believe in the power of prayers, please join me in praying for her during the day asking God for healing and wisdom to drs so they can help her.

Hey everyone I made it through surgery. The 1st two days were rough, but I’m feeling much better now. I was supposed to go home yesterday but because I haven’t been drinking enough fluids I was made to stay another day. I’m working harder today to get enough liquids in.

Happy and sad right now, they canceled my face to face surgery twin’s op because of a mix up with her meds and her selected surgery. So the docs office manager just called and told me they moved my time to her spot, so I will be reporting at 8am tomorrow for 10 am surgery instead of 12:30pm for 3pm. I’m so sad for her right now.

And to be honest with you I was so excited to be having it that I wasn't even nervous. You will do great! And so will she[emoji6] [emoji120]
