busyforever got a reaction from Smurf in Post op hunger
Thanks everyone - I'm on soft foods and feeling better (more energetic as well). Walter, you're right - 2oz ground turkey has me feeling pretty nice these days.

busyforever reacted to KRR in Hungry
I remember feeling hungry the first several weeks and being concerned the surgery didn't work for me. Now several weeks later I don't feel the restriction I expected more like I am comfortably full and lose interest.

Me too. I feel much less restriction than I expected, and I'm hungry all the time. I have definitely not had the no ghrelin=no hunger experience. You're not alone.

I’m on Prilosec. I can eat 3-4 oz of Protein and then I stop and 20 mins later my stomach feels empty. Like I didn’t eat.

Hi Fluffy
if you go hunting, one of the most common threads you will find here is “I am x weeks post op and I feel no restriction!” It is REALLY common so do t sweat. I almost convinced myself that my surgeon did no bypass and only cut me open and sewed me up again!
It settles. You learn to read it - but it takes learning! The restriction for me generally acts more like “meh, that’s enough eating cos I have better things to do” - more like a disappearing food drive than a physical full/squeeze feeling. If I DO eat too much it shows 10 minutes later - pain, hot sweats and sometimes I fall asleep! So I try and avoid that!!
Meanwhile, you are a learner driver for that tummy, so just take it easy, stick to your plan - that is why they gave you a plan!

busyforever reacted to White Sale in Afraid that I'm going to let fear of pain prevent me from going through with surgery
Not going to lie, you will be in pain. Use your pain medicines according to schedule, not according to how you feel. Don't be a hero in that way.
The most pain for me was getting in and out of both the car and bed. You have to twist your body and use your abs for these two things, and they were not fun.
To me, a few days of physical pain beats a lifetime emotional pain.

busyforever got a reaction from Frustr8 in Just got a surgery date!
@JessieGrace319 @Matt Z hey, thanks! I agree, it’s weird but yes! They had me do all the testing, then scheduled surgery at my follow up. I also had to schedule all of my pre op & post op appointments for the next 9 months. It will all be submitted to insurance one month before the surgery date ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

busyforever reacted to Lyngolean in Rate your recovery
I needed my 650mg Tylenol every 4 hours around the clock for the first 3-4 days. After that, I started sleeping longer - maybe 6 hours or so and wouldn't wake up from pain. I used my abdominal binder, an ice pack, an anti-cramping medication called hycosamine (prescription) and lots of walking to help with pain. I had zero gas pain for which I am eternally grateful. I thought recovery was very similar to recovery from giving birth where every day is appreciably improved. I had a fair amount of fatigue and took 2 naps a day for the first week, then reduced to one daily nap, then just a rest in the afternoon. My first 3 weeks back to work, I did NOthing after work other than my exercise, food prep and personal hygiene. NO extra energy. All best wishes to you!

busyforever reacted to White Sale in What is the weirdest thing you have experienced POST OP?
Trying on a size 6 to find it's too big.
Being shocked at my old pictures. I had no idea how big I was.
People calling me skinny or saying they're jealous of how thin I am.
Truly weird to me.

busyforever reacted to Syntax_Attack in Don't pray for me
I am an atheist as well and I not only don't take offense I say "Thank You". Why would I get upset? The person is simply wishing me well in the most sincere and profound way that they know how. Moreover what is there even to get upset about? It is not an insult or them trying to upset me in any way shape or form. If you do get upset about this then I think that says more about your personal insecurities than anything else. Suck it up buttercup!

busyforever reacted to bluebird2 in Don't pray for me
Of all the possible things you could be angry about, you are angry because someone is offering goodwill towards you, in the way they know how to offer it?
We only have power over ourselves and how we behave.
-
busyforever reacted to Sunlilly in Don't pray for me
You are maybe 3 per cent of the population so if you don’t believe in God so be it. Shrug it off and move on. Most Atheist I know and some friends are don’t care if they really don’t believe in God. It’s no offensive to them and you are trying to start a conversation when bring something like this up. Most Americans are Christian or believe in God in some way. They are not trying to offend you. They are just thinking about you and if your that offended just be great fun some people are thinking good thoughts about you.

busyforever reacted to kimber57 in Don't pray for me
Wondering why this subject comes up at all. As an Atheist, you expect others to respect your beliefs or right to NOT to believe. Yet you lack any respect for their right to express theirs.
Grow up! Let go of the pettiness and open your mind.
They are simply attempting to express their well wishes. Accept it and say "Thank you." Like an adult....

busyforever reacted to BookWorm in Dr. Gandsas at AAMC in Maryland?
I am scheduled to have surgery with Dr. Gandsas on October 4. This is what you can expect:
Lab Work
EKG
Chest XRay
Psych Eval
Upper GI
Ultrasound
sleep Study
Anestesia Testing
Monthly Nut meetings (NLT 3)
I have insurance and its costing me an arm and a leg. I couldn't imagine without insurance. The labs alone were $1,800 w/out insurance and I went through LabCorp.
