I am sooo sorry you are struggling with these awful complications. I don't have any advice, but I'd like to pray for you. Stay strong. ((Hugs))

I think you should be asking about gastric bypass successes, and focus on the positive! If you adk about complications you're going to hear from the minority, myself included. I hesitate to tell you, but just 5 weeks out from bypass I developed pain when drinking or eating, and couldn't keep anything down. It felt like I had eaten a whole pizza! Turns out I had the most severe stricture the surgeon had ever seen, and lots of ulcers. It took months. And 6 dilations to fix the problem. I'm 8 months post bypass now. And am fine. I was totally unprepared for this. But had a great attitude, and just went with the flow. It's really the only thing you can do when faced with a setback.
Now, I'm praying you don't have any complications at all. I was a very rare case!!

Doctor's scales always weigh heavier because you've usually got clothes on, and they don't weigh you at the same time of day. I really would not worry too much!

Welcome! I had my bypass at the end of March 2019, and the folks on here have been very helpful and supportive. Look around and read what you can. You'll learn a lot. Good luck on your journey!

Thank you both for your replies! I'm glad to know I'm not alone in this!! It is worse when I exercise, so my personal Trainer has told me to stop for a little while why the docs try to figure out if anything is going on.

So, since around month 5 post bypass my blood pressure, the upper number, has been hovering around 100. Sometimes under. I get lightheaded when I stand up from sitting or lying down. But, I went to my doctor and they checked my bp lying down, sitting, and standing, and it didn't change. Stays around 100/70. I know we're not doctors here, but I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this??

I had gastric bypass and took 4 weeks off from work. Like others have said, I was very tired. I would definitely wait until summer and not rush it. Good luck!!

I would crush mine and mix in unsweetened applesauce per my doctor. Still tasts a little bitter, but not bad.

It’s wasn’t the pain for me, I actually had very little pain/complications. It was just the fatigue that followed. It took me a good 4-6 weeks to get my energy back. Maybe it was just me though 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m a teacher, had the bypass! Please wait until the summer, I know it’s hard but there’s no way I could have returned to teaching 2-3 weeks afterward. Feel free to message me if you have questions

Briswife15 got a reaction from boymom860 in Sleeve or bypass? help or hurt GERD
I had bypass because I had GERD and my surgeon wouldn't do tge sleeve. No GERD now. 8 months post bypass and have never dumped, but I am very strict with my sugar intake. I'm not sick all the time either. If you even have mild GERD the sleeve has the potential to make it worse. Good luck whichever you choose.

I agree. I had a severe stricture that required 6 dilations! Took months to resolve. I don't think they can resolve on their own. Don't regret your surgery, this is just a small setback! If you can't keep Water diwn you could fet dehydrated, so press your surgeon to do something. Good luck!!

Briswife15 reacted to TeeBeau in Weight loss slowed, focusing on non-scale victories
My weight loss has slowed. I'm at about 8 months post op and have lost 70% of my excess weight thus far. I'm trying to Celebrate non-scale victories until I get past this plateau. This morning I showered and got ready for work at the gym (I have usually just gone home to do this, unless it's a rare lunchtime workout). The tiny towel at the gym completely wrapped around me without a gap. I was so excited to see that! In the past when I've worked out during lunch I've had to bring a giant beach towel to completely wrap myself in after showering.
What non-scale victories are you celebrating? I need inspiration to look for other victories in places other than the scale.

Well, Hi! I'm not sure if I've seen any of your posts, but I'm sorry you feel it is difficult to make friends on here! If you write posts with questions you're likely to get a lot of responses. For the most part people are super helpful. I agree with another poster that people tend to post a lot before surgery. I'm 8 months post gastric bypass and whole I still post, it is not as frequent as before or right after surgery. I wouldn't say I've made any friends, but there is a core group of regular posters which are always willing to share and offer advice. Keep on posting!!

I chose bypass, and I'm very happy with that choice. Complications can happen with either surgery. I only wanted to do this once, and chose bypass because I thought it gave me, personally, the best shot at success. There are tons of very successful sleevers, though. Ultimately go with your gut! (Pun intended!)
