Hi,@Lily66. I need to update my stats on the computer because I can't do it on the phone app! It's like 85 pounds since surgery, and 102 since my highest weight!!
Yes. My knee pain is 90 percent better with the weight loss. Now my issue is my neck!!

I had to forgive and let go of my former self.
Find adventures, make up for lost time, do the things your body wouldn't allow you to do. remember the things you enjoyed as a kid, take time for yourself and discover who you are and what brings you joy.

I was diabetic type 2, and on Victoza and metformin prior to surgery day. Stopped then, and sugars normalized in a few days. Never went back. No longer diabetic!!

I looked pretty scrawny when I got to my lowest weight, but things kind of re-distribute after awhile and most people eventually look way better. Like you, my low weight was in a normal BMI range for me, though.
as for trying to gain weight, don't forget that most of us gain 10-20 lbs during year 2 or 3 (some, unfortunately, gain more than that - some WAY more). I've put on 24 lbs since I hit my lowest weight, which I'm sick about and trying to re-lose. I don't want to be at my thinnest again as it was too light for me, but I would LOVE to lose 10-15 lbs, and it's a real bear. I personally wouldn't try to gain weight because you're likely to do so on your own without much effort once you're in year 2 or 3. In the mean time, things will shift around and you'll likely look much better in about six months, even at your current weight.

stay off the scale the first week. They pump you full of fluids in the hospital, and many of us come home from the hospital heavier than when we went in - but it's all just fluids. They should work their way out of your system in a few days. If you step on the scale a week after coming from home the hospital, you should start seeing a loss.

I just want to say that it's not necessarily what you can offer us, but what we can offer you. I'm nearly a year out and have found this forum to be a tremendous source of support, information and inspiration when I needed it most.

I think you should be asking about gastric bypass successes, and focus on the positive! If you adk about complications you're going to hear from the minority, myself included. I hesitate to tell you, but just 5 weeks out from bypass I developed pain when drinking or eating, and couldn't keep anything down. It felt like I had eaten a whole pizza! Turns out I had the most severe stricture the surgeon had ever seen, and lots of ulcers. It took months. And 6 dilations to fix the problem. I'm 8 months post bypass now. And am fine. I was totally unprepared for this. But had a great attitude, and just went with the flow. It's really the only thing you can do when faced with a setback.
Now, I'm praying you don't have any complications at all. I was a very rare case!!

Look up your insurance policy guidelines - they should be on line. Make a hard copy so you can read it over and over and fully understand all the details. THen you will know where to start. Every company is different, and you have to know what your own one says.

When I had my bypass 9 months ago I just told everyone I was having surgery and did not elaborate. Mo one asked what kind! I wad out of work for 4 weeks. The weight came off pretty quickly, but if anyone suspected bariatric surgery they didn't say so. I don't think you have to give details! Best wishes.

I'm too old to lie, I might forget what I said. Why not just say you are having minor but necessary surgery and will be out for 2 weeks? Then when I came back I told everyone I was on a medically supervised diet to avoid interest in why I was drinking small amounts of Protein Shake all day. Really, no one cared.

Hooray for us post-menopausal women taking a later in-life leap and getting this new life!
I am two years post op. I was taking magnesium to help with restless legs before surgery so I kept that up. Initially I took a multi that I got from the BariatricPal Store here. Then as things settled in it became apparent I would need B12 supplement, and 6 mo later, it was clear I needed folic acid too. My surgeon proposed them. And recently my Iron has dipped so I take an iron/vitamin c combo tablet a couple of times a week (as I remember to).
It is funny - I see loads of folks saying they chose a sleeve not a bypass because of the Vitamin deficiencies - but it is so easily remedied! I am so so healthy now - I LOVE my new lease on my post-menopausal life!

I had my surgery at 57, also post menopausal, and I just take the supplements recommended by my bariatric team. Nothing extra needed because we're post menopausal. I take Bariatric Advantage multi twice a day, 500 mg Calcium with D twice a day, and extra beta carotene because I'm deficient in Vitamin A. There is Iron in my multi. I also take 1000 micrograms B12 every other day. Most folks take B12 daily, but my levels are high.

Thanks, all! I'm pleased that I can tell psych I'm not underweight, yes, she really thinks so! And pleased that 130 isn't outrageous to the bariatric team. Just taking it slow and steady now, and following the plan. Appreciate all the feedback!

I think second thoughts are normal and expected at some stage preop. How much do you need to lose? 30 pounds is a terrific start. It is really hard but not impossible to lose a significant amount of weight and keep it off without surgery. I'd like to encourage you to keep going and not have cold feet. I have lost 101 pounds toral, and about 85 pounds in 9 months post bypass. I am cured of diabetes and high blood pressure and can do many things I was too heavy to do before. This is the best decision I ever made! Best wishes to you!

Update on my goal weight and current weight. Saw my bariatric team this week and I am not underweight! They told me to tell psychiatrist not to worry. 8 pounds from their goal for me, and more like 15 pounds from my goal. Which they did not disagree with. I was 148 on doctor's scale, fully clothed.
