You definitely make sense. But, I can say that the therapist I'm seeing (who specializes in eating disorders) used to do a lot of evaluations for bariatric surgery. The surgeons dropped her from their list because she didn't approve people fast enough. They wanted a one-off, good-to-go assessment just to get the patient into surgery. (My surgeon requires a minimum of 3 therapy meetings, and more if the therapist doesn't sign off.) But everyone has to understand, the doctor can make all the requirements he/she wants before surgery; after surgery, they're just suggestions. What's the doc gonna do? Give you back your stomach? The doctor has absolutely no leverage after the surgery.

I had a huge hernia, where my stomach was bulging and stuck up through my diaphragm. All the surgeon does is pull it back down, and tighten the diaphragm with a few stitches. It's easy peasy for them. My recovery was flawless. No pain, no nausea. Etc.

My surgeon told me it's not possible to even feel it. Tightness comes from swelling and overall trauma to the area, not the actual hernia repair. He described how new sleeves are swollen and the inside is about as big as a pencil at first.

He basically said who has ever had the sleeve with hernia repair, and the sleeve without a hernia repair, and was able to compare the two? Probably no one. If two people have different experiences, it's probably not the hernia repair that makes their experience different.

As I read through these posts it has become pretty clear that obesity is truly a mental condition. I saw this process as a tool to better myself, but a lot of people think its a catch all. Some people miss food while some get depressed about not eating. I wonder if more psychological stipulations should be inacted before a proceedure?
    Any Thoughts....?

I just had VSG and Hiatal hernia repair June 11th. I think the only difference is having one incision right under your sternum (just below the bra line on a woman). My biggest issue was the gas pain which gets better each day. I was able to get all my Water and Protein today. Breathing deep hurt initially, but I think that was related to the gas. I walked over 7000 steps the first night, but I still can't lay down flat, so I am guessing walking helps, but time plays its part as well. Each day I feel better than the last and keep forgetting it has only been 3 days since my surgery.

I had surgery Dec. 12, 2017. I've lost a total of 85 lbs (some from the liver-shrinking diet beforehand). The scale has been a frustrating place ... but I'm down four jeans sizes and the belt I started wearing two weeks ago is down another notch. So that's what I'm doing ... taking the inches and not worrying too much about the scale.

Lettuce is still an issue for me at 7 months....the rest is fine, and no soft shells - too Gummy. Tomatoes - no problem - and I would seriously cry if I could not tolerate tomatoes.

I totally eat that all the time! Sometimes I use a chili con carne/ground beef meat (homemade with lean meat), sometimes some shredded chicken with taco seasoning. Then I throw it over lettuce and tomatoes. Maybe add some corn or black Beans. I think this is a pretty healthy meal. I’ll even do a bit of guacamole or cheese once in a while. (Full disclosure, I do a low carb, high Protein, medium - high fat type diet). When I have to eat out, I often order some version of this. I never have rice, tortillas or sour cream but the rest is fine if you ask me.
I was eating puréed beef chili and taco Soup from like two weeks. It’s high protein and my nutritionist showed me recipes! It took a little while longer to be ready to eat lettuce.
Honestly, you really can eat some version of most foods that you used to love. I have bun less burgers and Pasta made with zucchini noodles, casseroles and stirfrys with cauliflower rice. Don’t be scared to mess around with healthy versions of your old favorite recipes!

I agree with Matt. Looks like a good alternative. It may also be easier to tolerate that chicken or beef because it's likely less fibrous.

I often wonder how many people that get WLS have dieted and lost weight before? Me? I've lost and gained 50, 60, 70 pounds 3 or 4 times.
Sure, the losses with WLS can be quicker, especially in the beginning. But after the initial large losses, the amount of weight lost for most seems to be on par with normal dieting, which if done in a healthy way should be 2-5 pounds a week.
I honestly don't know where everyone gets their unrealistic expectations?
